Think I messed it up or I just need it to dry. Should I wash it out first? Soap and water? Let me know thoughts. It feels really smooth. I used 120 grit. Maybe should’ve used higher? I have another case so maybe I’ll try again after I see how this turns out.
I personally would have used a much higher grit. I used a damp magic eraser which is basically a high grit. The coating is thin so its pretty easy to remove. Wait for it to dry and then give it a quick wipe with a alcohol wipe to get off any remaining bits. Let it dry again and then massage it with your hands for a while so your natural oils start to work in. I did this while I watched tv one evening and the case looks great. Been about a week and the natural patina is happening.

I think removing the coating and trying to force the patina at the same time is what ruined my first case. This time I just focused on removing the coating and now I’ll let time do it’s own thing like the way the older saddle brown cases did on the 7,8 XS.

Ok no problem I have another case and this was honestly experimentation since I’ve used it for about a year and a half now. I still have my leather black iPhone 12 Pro case so I’ll practice on that one applying what I know now.

So I should get like 600 grit and sand it lightly, no excessive force or any force. Just dance on the top to remove the coating. Then put some olive or coconut oil on it. Let it dry, then use alcohol wipes to remove any bits. Let dry then use hands. Is this correct?

Thanks for your help btw.

I’ve attached my black case just to have a before photo. Looks like there was signs of some patina.

I would say you want to get the coating off before oil. I’d sand , wipe, then oil. Honestly I’d probably skip the oil because the case will darken quite quickly on its own without the coating there and develop a more natural patina. But it’s your case, your call. Beauty can’t be rushed.

Yes, I think I said I’d sand with 600 grit before applying the olive oil. Do I need to go higher than 600 grit or will that be enough?

Regarding the nomad case. Are the buttons wobbly/or have play? Also does the case collect a lot of lint as the original silicone one that I use is a lint magnet.
That's the only thing I don't like about my Nomad case. The power on/off button is a bit wobbly and sometimes needs to be pressed twice.

Oh and yeah 600 is probably good. The magic eraser trick is good because the water makes it much easier to see when you’ve broken through the coating.

Excellent. Was the magic eraser just a standard one or the one for tough stains(the one with ridges)?

The Nomad case buttons are solid and very responsive. No wobble/wiggle/play/movement at all.

Regarding lint, it collects where you’d think it would: port openings and around the camera lenses. Other than that it’s clean.

Ok. Thank you. Also how well does the lip cover the phone is the frame exposed? I have been hearing that the case also scratches the metal frame of the phone. Is there any truth to it?

Thank you. One last thing is the lip enough to protect the screen and does the case scratch the metal side frame?

I haven’t taken the phone out of the case yet so not sure about that but the lip is pretty minimal. It’s enough for a naked screen but I don’t think it would be with a tempered glass protector on.
