My Native Union case just over a month since removing coating.

How’s your Golden Brown leather case coming along?
21 days with the golden brown. 105 days with the Andar.

I’m getting the itch to apply sandpaper and I promised myself I wouldn’t. I did use some rubbing alcohol. The Andar is coming along wonderfully though. The side by side (taken with XR, others with 13 Pro) is to show the color difference from real life and the screen/camera. It’s more orange than the yellowish tan that’s shown.

Yes, I've been in contact with one of the owners of Woolnut actually. He told me that from early 2020 they've changed to their "pebbled" leather and with that also "a change in the tanning process".

He didn't address my claims of the leather having a PU coating though. But since I own one of their cases from 2019 I can easily compare the leather. In 2019 it was definitely a good leather. I even used it as a good example when I made a post a while back about the iPhone 13 Decoded case which also is PU coated leather now. I got the Decoded case when I first got the iPhone 13 but I quickly realized it wasn't what they promised.
(Sorry I cut your quote short)

I see, yes things seems to not add up with Woolnut then. I know one or two things about leather but I am no expert in the matter. I do buy leather on etsy shops, both veg tanned leather and chromium tanned leather so I can add that Woolnuts leather maybe is not coated.

It might be they are using either chromium tanning or a mixture of veg tanning + chromium tanning. I own non-veg tanned leather products and a pink leather case that never will patina and always will have the same original colour etc, but they are not coated by any means, its just that the leather has been tanned with chromium so the pores appears to be "clogged", and the leather "dead" so to speak. But I would not know what Woolnut is all about, seems they are trying to cut their coasts, but they need to be transparent about their leather asap!

I too have a Wiiuka case as of last week! Its gorgeous, love it so much!

I certainly am!

I too have meddled with some leather crafts (the watch band for example that can be seen in one of the photos below) but it sounds like you know your stuff. One thing is sure though, Woolnut have changed their leather in the last two years to something inferior, patina-wise at least.

I love the Wiiuka case too! It patinas like crazy, don't you think? I already saw some in less than 24 hours and now five days later it's really noticeable!

Wiiuka seems to just ship to Germany, The Netherlands, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg. Is there any way to ship to Europe outside these countries?

Ask them, it worked for me. They're a bit slow to reply though. Expect at least 24-48 hours.

View attachment 1958835Can someone help me understand why is the apple leather case developing this “grainy” patina?
My theory is that its bits of the paint / coating that is stuck deeper in the grain and didn't get pulled off when you removed the coating. Mind has similar issues but my case has darkened more than yours from very heavy use these past couple months thanks to having to use it for work a lot more.

Bullstrap Sienna on my iPhone 13 PM. DAY 11. The colour is great. The feel is even greater.

Looking forward to seeing that patina!

How smooth is that seam between the 2 leathers? Is it noticeable to touch?
I think the seam is pretty well done. Of course you can feel it if you run your fingers over it purposefully, but just holding the phone normally for everyday use, I don’t notice it at all.

What Lima said. It’s very well done. If I shut my eyes and run my fingers thru it, you can feel the line. But to the visible eye there is no crease or gap. Excellent craftsmanship I’d say.

Such a nice Patina on the Wiiuka Case. Day 1 (last picture) and after only 3 weeks (first three pictures).
