New color for the new year. Swapped out the brown for blue.

Day 1 with Bullstrap ocean blue (13PM).

Bullstrap's aptly named "ocean" blue is mesmerizing when the sun hits it. Like shimmering water.

Bullstrap ocean update at ~7 weeks. I think the patina is coming along at a nice pace. Not too much too fast.

Here's one in the sunlight.

Those with the Dark Cherry Apple leather case - how’s it holding up all these months later?

Looking like a fine wine ? or a Dark Mess?

Dark Cherry Apple leather case. I used it on and off for a few months now. The sides are definitely getting darker but the back looks more or less the same. It feels great in the hand, very grippy and miles better than the Golden Brown. I think even if this gets a dirtier look that apple leather cases get these days, it would still blend in more nicely as the colour is a bit on the darker side. In my opinion, midnight or dark cherry are the way to go this time around.

Loving this thread. I'm after a new case for my new iPhone 13, but I can't decide what to get. I'm not keen on Bullstrap because it's open-bottom. I like Kings Loot but it'll cost about £64 for the case and shipping. John Lewis have the Apple leather case for £44 (with shipping) - tempted to get that but I wonder if a different brand of case will age better.

Have you considered Nomad?

If you live in UK, I would definiately go for Nodus https://noduscollection.com/collections/phone-cases
I used two of their cases for 4 years on my Iphone X and they are very wellmade and strong. Any "scars" they got blended in and healed very well. Its open bottom but thats much better than closed as it won't disturb the functionality when you swipe up/down.

I have dropped my phone on asphalt, gravel, hard floor etc (yes many drops over the years, sadly) and in cases when the phone did not fall flat on its back the case took it on the bottom side corners as the phone I suspect naturally shifts to where its heavier, so open bottom in my experience is better and more functional (and better looking).

Nomad cases has not leather on the sides, instead its plastic or something alike plastic. Thats what made me dislike and stay away from that brand, I wanna feel 100% leather if I use a leather case. Not a combo of cheap plastic plus leather.

Appreciate the reply. I'll have a look at their products. I'm wary of open-bottom cases as the bottom of the phone is exposed and therefore at greater risk of getting damaged.

This is my 70 day old Saddle Brown. I removed all the coating on day one and left it to patina naturally. While it was looking better than most of the 12 series cases I’ve seen it wasn’t looking like the great saddle browns of the series 7,8,X. So I decided I’d do what I swore I’d never do and give it an artificial patina. I figure if I’m going to use this case I’m going to make it look how I want it. I like my leather to look like it has a history and has seen lots of use. I like when brown leather turns black and develops shine and depth of color. So I pulled out some leather wipes to clean it off. Then I pulled out some black liquid shoe polish and dabbed a terry cloth towel in it. I let the polish partially dry on the towel so that I could better control how much transferred to the leather. I figured it’s easier to add more if needed. I gently rubbed the areas I wanted to darken using light pressure and circular motion. I repeated the process a few times until I was happy and then coated the whole case with smiths leather balm and polished it with a micro fibre cloth for a while. In my opinion it now looks the way a saddle brown should. I did the same process on my MagSafe wallet and Native Union airpod case. It may not be for everyone but I am finally happy with it.

Quick note for those considering andar cases, they stain magsafe chargers. This is a photo after i tried scrubbing the charger with alcohol and acetone. No big deal to
Me but strange that the new crappy apple leather didn't do this.

Edit: pic makes it look a lot lighter than it is. My belkin 3 in 1 charger is also stained.

The wife put her coated hand weights on the 'fancy' entertainment center we have (particle board and over treated) and left 'hickies' where the weights were resting. They are light spots, almost lifting the complete surface coating, and the weights are not giving up their 'stolen' color accents either.

Like the rings that the HomePod left for people setting them on good furniture. Yikes...

I can totally believe that far too many leather products are 'over coated'. I have a wallet that, 15 years later, STILL colors all of the money in it if I sweat or am caught in the rain. Sweat makes it way darker, but WOW, that's a lot of 'bleeding'. But removing the coatings and dies could expose irregularities in the items too. Some may be show more 'character' than the owner would want. (Just saying)

No its no greater risk of damage actually, quite the contrary as I explained above but you do you!
