Keyway in Whisky came yesterday. This is a pretty nice case. It’s better leather than the LONLI Classic. The hardware is all metal and the magnet is really strong. Nothing others haven’t already mentioned.

I agree that the logo is kind of lame. I wish they’d embossed it onto the leather rather than embedding it. But it’s not a deal breaker by any means.

A gram is roughly the weight of a paper clip. I'll take 5-10 paper clips in my hand/pocket if that means nicer leather, more protection, or metal buttons/camera lip.
Well apple switched from stainless steel to titanium to save 16 paperclips on the 15pro so I don’t really want to add most of those paperclips back with a heavier/bulky case. That’s the main reason I didn’t reorder the andar. Everybody has different preferences though.

You’ll probably want to go caseless if you want to experience that weight loss. Basically any case that offers some measure of protection is going to eliminate the weight savings.

Weight is an important factor for us too. The thing is, since this is a leather case, the nature of the material governs us - especially so with full-grain leather which can be rather "thick". Our hides are chrome-tanned which enables them to be a little thinner & softer than veg-tanned leather.

Apple's leather case from the 12 series onwards seem to use an extremely thin hide (possibly heavily sanded down for "uniformity"), and we can understand why Apple does this since a lot of their customers chase perfection with their products, and the natural grain pattern of full-grain leather might be perceived as "defects".

While there are ways to make the case lighter by using a kevlar core structure, this would make the case prohibitively expensive with minimal weight loss. Another 3-5 grams can be saved if we swap out metal hardware for plastic ones.

With leather, it's pretty much a tradeoff. Weight comes with the material. Same reason why track-focused versions of road cars strip away leather in favour of Alcantara.

I agree I am sure that’s why Apple made the leather cases the way they did. Also I think they made the process the way they did with the 12 and above because so many people complained about patina. A lot of the people buying the leather cases had no idea what patina was or what to expect. So their efforts were to stop it happening so fast, and they were left with what most call terrible aging.

It’s hard to please everyone m, Apple tried, but I love the direction you guys are going. Would like to see a lighter brown leather at some point down the road.

Hello all, we're surprised to see this level of interest with our leather case. Thank you all!

We understand weight is a concern for a number of you. As it stands, the 15 Pro Max variant sits at 39 grams, vs 32 grams for the Apple Leather iPhone 13 Pro Max Case. We'll also have to take in consideration that Apple's leather is quite a bit thinner (seems like they sand down their hide quite a bit to give the leather as even a look as possible). The metal camera surround we use also adds about 2 grams more vs Apple's.

Nonetheless, your feedback matters to us, and we'll work on future iterations of the Bare Skin Case to bring weight down a bit.
Will you have a darker green case?

Not impressed with shipping from Ryan London so far. It has gotten stuck somewhere. It says it arrived at the airport and got tagged with leaving UK on Saturday. The postal service in my country say they have not received the parcel yet.

There's probably only like a handful of people here that care that much over the weight. Most definitely would not sacrifice metal buttons/rings or leather thickness just to save a few measly grams.
I am one that does care about weight and there are more than a handful of us. 🙂

Yeah, I don't get it. I haven't felt any arm, hand or finger strain from a difference of a few grams. 🤷‍♂️

What we want is a replacement for the old Apple leather cases, back when they used much better leather.

The consensus amongst the people here seems to be that we want full grain leather with a little bit of finishing. People want the smoothness of the old Apple leather cases, which definitely were not unfinished.

If you guys can find a balance where the leather has a bit of finishing but can still develop patina then pretty much everyone in here will buy from you. Level of finishing should be what high quality shoes have (think $500+ Goodyear welted shoes). Just enough to give water and some scratch protection but not enough to look plastic and block patina.

Chrome tanned is fine, though I prefer vegetable tanned aniline dyed.

For all of you saying you don’t care about weight, I just don’t get it. So, Apple makes the new iPhone Pro’s lighter and then people want to add weight back on?

So, let me explain. I carry my phone in my pants pocket, so want it as light as possible. Apple’s lighter leather case helped with that. I get some added weight for quality, but definitely want as light as you can get. I am sure there are other people like me.

Now, if it was for my wife’s phone, she could care less, as she has it in her purse. So, she alway goes with the Vaja Portfolio cases, which weigh quite a bit, but are great quality.

And I get it, everyone is different, but weight makes a big difference for me, even grams. 🙂

Just pre-ordered a 'camel tan' leather case from Andar. I was torn between the sand and moss colors, but settled with the camel tan.

Our pre-production cases have been holding up really well with daily use. Then again, we've not laid it on rocks or dragged them across rough surfaces.
Thanks for the reply. So when will orders start? I'm very close to just ordering a YMW leather case so that I don't have to wait anymore..

Yup, Apple Leather cases from iPhone X to 11 gen was where they peaked.

The leather we use is similar. It’s semi-aniline, very mildly treated; if you put a drop of water on it, it beads, and then the leather absorbs it about a second or two later.

We’re considering a veg-tanned variant similar to Vachetta leather… it would make the case a little thicker, but that would be a patina boss!

I’ve tried careless and my main problem is the phone sliding out of my pocket. I need some extra grip. I did order a dbrand leather skin that hasn’t come in yet but hopefully that will work for me.
I used an apple leather case on my 13pro and one of the main reasons I got the 15pro was the weight reduction. I feel like adding weight back by going with a case that is heavier than the apple leather case, even if it’s 5-6 grams is a step backwards. I didn’t get a lighter phone to add weight back to it.

First batch of cases have completed production, just waiting for packaging to be completed.

We’re estimating pre-orders to open end of this week, with shipping starting first week of November. Of course, this is just an estimate, and we’ll announce on socials once all deets are finalised.

Totally agree, there are plenty of options now for full grain leather cases that are thicker and weigh more than apples. There are 0 options for a leather case that is as light and thin as the apple leather case. The last 50 pages have been people trying to find an alternative to the apple case so it’s clearly not just a handful.

When you say similar to, what similarities do you mean? Italian Vachetta leather is THE leather for accessories and small leather goods. I have 2 briefcases and 1 wallet in dyed Vachetta and even with finishing it is indeed a patina boss. It has enough finishing that a water drop will sit there beaded for a quite some time.

A couple seconds is really not much finishing, but maybe enough to get the smooth surface people want? I have some shoes made in vegetable tanned crust leather. Minimal finishing (at least from this manufacturer) so it’s terrible with water, but it’s still baby ass smooth.

They have a sign up on their IG profile to reserve one. Not sure if that counts as a pre-order or is just a notification but apparently it comes with a discount.

I like the Keyway case the slate Color is sick 😁 action button is a must, I purchased the Andar with cut out.

Sounds great! Would you guys be considering making a saddle brown light brown options? I think that’s kind of the peak we all wanted after the saddle brown iPhone X cases. A little more orange in them.

Of course we’ll be considering other brown shades. 😉
