I am gonna get slammed for this, but I am just gonna say it. I don’t see that much difference in how this ages compared to the Apple leather cases. The edges are what get dark first, and the middle only patinas on highly used parts of the case. Yes Apples is harder to get any age in the middle, but just saying I don’t think this looks that much different.
I gotta disagree with you on that. I didn’t take any pictures of my saddle brown 12 mini case but it looked way worse than that. I did a google search and found these on Reddit. They look similar to how my 12 mini case looked but worse because I gave up a few months in and tried to sand it to “save it”. I ended up just trashing it.

The dark color apple cases didn’t age bad but any lighter color just looked like paint had rubbed off the edges.

I prefer a lighter patina where you can still somewhat see original color. If I wanted a chocolate brown case I would buy one. But this is what happens with untreated full grain leather.
I completely agree. If I bought another BS, I would go with Dune next time. BS gets dark way too quick IMO.

I have seen all of those phones. Heck I have an orange Apple leather case. I don’t think they age great at all, but these other cases aren’t ages super well either. The design of the iPhone leads to the edges ages way more than the back.

100% agree with this! We pick the lighter color for a reason.

Hello all, we're surprised to see this level of interest with our leather case. Thank you all!

We understand weight is a concern for a number of you. As it stands, the 15 Pro Max variant sits at 39 grams, vs 32 grams for the Apple Leather iPhone 13 Pro Max Case. We'll also have to take in consideration that Apple's leather is quite a bit thinner (seems like they sand down their hide quite a bit to give the leather as even a look as possible). The metal camera surround we use also adds about 2 grams more vs Apple's.

Nonetheless, your feedback matters to us, and we'll work on future iterations of the Bare Skin Case to bring weight down a bit.

This really interests me. I'm kind of kicking myself now for buying an expensive Bullstrap case, but I had no clue you'd be making the ideal Apple Leather alternative.

I will probably hold off on the initial wave, but could you suggest roughly how long out we'd be looking at a revised lighter weight case?

I agree the rounded edges made it easier to get an even patina. I was just saying those brown apple cases looked way worse than that BS because it wasn’t patina, it looked like paint had rubbed off.

Yeah, I agree to a point, but I don’t think any of the patinas look great with this design.

Yup, Apple Leather cases from iPhone X to 11 gen was where they peaked.

The leather we use is similar. It’s semi-aniline, very mildly treated; if you put a drop of water on it, it beads, and then the leather absorbs it about a second or two later.

We’re considering a veg-tanned variant similar to Vachetta leather… it would make the case a little thicker, but that would be a patina boss!
Are your cases going to have enough of a camera lip that it'll actually protect the camera? Was let down with other brands here. :/

I’m hoping my Keyway ends up with a nice patina, it’s already getting darker where my fingers rest. After a couple of weeks the leather feels great. I think I’m going to preorder that bareskin tortora too and see how I like it. I think it looks cleaner with no branding on the back.

Agree I like the Bareskin the most of the options for leather for the 15s. Looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

For me in my experience the Apple leather from the 12 series is way worse in patina especially in saddle brown. The “paint” coating or whatever just rubs away instead of creating patina and it looks horrible. The BS does darken around the edges first but I believe it’s cause of the square design of the phone. The back has darkened quite a bit more compared to when it was new. Also the leather aroma of this BS is amazing. It still has a leather smell although not as strong. When I first received the BS case it was very dry and slowly it just broke in nice and got smooth from my hand oils.

Would anyone here be interested in a gently used Bullstrap Dune 15 Pro case? I could even order a replacement beforehand.

Whats the price on these leather Bare cases? Based on the costs of their regular cases, it looks like it will be priced even higher than BS

I really don’t think their cases are ever sold at that price.
Yeah but you have to imagine that the leather is going to go for more than $55 USD. ***** getting way to expensive since none of these case makers (including apple) are leather experts and are providing mediocre products at best. I will say it again, give me shell cordovan!

I am with you, I think $60 is tops a leather case should be. There is no ones leather cases that are getting better than that.

If Hermes ever made another iPhone leather case, maybe that should be pushing those numbers
