I'm mainly here for the forums these days, but the recaps after events are really helpful. I do understand why clickbait content is needed though.

Wow, that's pretty hostile. Just because the OP doesn't have a high post count doesn't minimize his opinion, and thoughts.

Maybe the OP was looking to provide constructive criticism which @arn graciously received and offered trying to make the site better - unlike your rather toxic reply.
OP's criticism/complaint is legitimate. I don't believe that's the issue - not to me in any case. The issue I took, and presumably @mreg376 took, is that OP seems to be trying to inject legitimacy to their complaint/criticism by bringing up the fact that they've been reading the site for 20 years.

If your complaint/criticism is legit then the amount of time you've been here, whether 20 years or 20 days, isn't relevant. So, when OP further announces that they are departing, but very few people have ever seen or heard from OP in those 20 years, just how do you take that?

My reaction is neutral. Because, I don't know OP. Despite them having been here (somewhere) for 20 years, they were never actively involved with other members.

Or to put this another way: How are you supposed to react to the 20 year lurker who announces they are leaving when you had no idea they were there to begin with?

Whatever works for you.

Am a little surprised forums like this still exist given one can ask anything of the chatboxes, I suppose forums still afford those brain dumps, open ended questions chatboxes can't tolerate.

That makes sense. I probably didn't need to include the goodbye part.

I would say it's relevant in that I can speak to how the site content has changed over the years.

“Chatboxes” do not allow human to human communication. To some people there is a positive in that, others not so much.

Same sentiments but I don't (feel) any need to leave or announce a leave lol.

I just skim the headlines quick probably less than once a day these days. Most times I'm here for 15 seconds and gone.

I comment on some articles here and there. First time in awhile I saw a forum post on the front page and read it and commented.

I've been reading Macrumors since 2012. All news has gone the way of more engaging "You won't believe this!" for clicks in the last 5-10 years or so.

Having to wade through the mess to get what you want has always kinda been the case, even 10 years ago. I find certain things interesting that others don't so I just ignored what I didn't like and kept reading on.

I do believe we're reaching a point where tech advancements are going to become less and less "and one more thing!" to wow our pants off.

I've got my complaints against Macrumors but there are not many big forums like this anymore. But I'll give you that there are more attention getting articles than there was, but it's nowhere near mainstream media bad lol.

Life is short - spend it doing what you like and what makes you happy 😀 I wish you the best and will look forward to seeing you around when you do pop in now and then. Hopefully you find something fun. I've found reading non-fiction history and playing with batteries to be huge hobbies of mine (I had to step away from Macrumors for a few years myself).
I agree not sure who is running MR these days but I prefer focusing on the forums for the most part. The front pages.... I don't know about it anymore. It's basically like they want the front page to be like gizmodo or engadget but I go to giz or engadget for general tech news. I want MR to be apple centric rumors to guide buying or holding off on purchases.

I agree! I have a search list of 15 or so usernames (PS, you're on it theorist9) and I just look for posts and the threads on which those users are posting.

Stopped watching the macrumors RSS feed long ago.
Wow, I'm very flattered! Not sure I deserve the honor! 😀

Every morning MR is on of my first stops on my digital life. The front page is the first thing I look at, to see what headliners there are. I’m glad there are a variety of items and I read the threads that draw my attention and use the scroll-wheel technique for those that don’t.

Well in the spirit of Seinfeld/Festivus "airing of grievances" I'll humbly add that all the various Beta software posts are also what clogs up the news feed. Those should just be threads in the various OS forums for the more technically-inclined to follow (again, I'm wearing my grievance hat for argument's sake). I'm not sure "Developer Beta 3" is front page worthy. I'm sure Arn and others likely see the engagement metrics and it probably makes dollars and cents to have those kinds of updates on the front page, but I don't recall seeing beta software updates or "lowest price ever" front-page articles 15 years ago. But I could be mistaken.

Btw I just scrolled down all 18 Front Page stories and only 4 are sales/pricing/affiliate related: Amazon $150 off, Ugreen chargers, Plex tripling pricing, Best Buy Memorial Day. And no beta software updates. So a pretty good mix today.

Betas don’t get much interest but they do seem pretty core Apple News, so we can’t skip them.

Edit: and some early / new features pop up

I get these posts about leaving- that there's a need to say it - if only for attention.. but, really - it's like saying, after you've finished grocery shopping and all is paid for, then as you exit the doors to the shop you burst out back into the shop where you just went shopping:
"I'm leaving now! Goodbye and I'll probably come back tomorrow or perhaps a little later today if I forgot to buy something" "Farewell.. and adios! But also, I'll be back"

The op has been here since late 2023. Maybe not so much posting but consuming. MR is very broad with respect to the diversity of topics and within those topic areas goes very deep.

So someone who has been here not quite three years and rarely has engaged in the forums doesn’t like the MR news feed and doesn’t want to skip the articles not of interest, and doesn’t seem to have any other interests within MR and on the way out provides a critique of the front page.

I’m not sure what the OP thought the expected outcome was going to be.

Guys, this subforum is made for site feedback. I am providing feedback.

I'm really struggling to understand why this is so controversial.
it's fine - there's just some things that are hard to grasp. Like creating a thread that is "Leaving Macrumors"
what for? You're still here. I think its best to continue being here instead of announcing that you're off to better pastures. The issue remains on all tech sites.. there's no news article to read of interest.

Everythings is leaked and nothing is exciting anymore. Apple themselves hasn't been exciting on the hardware front or software front for years. So why read into it? just skip and join the forums like you do already. Add to the conversation on whatever you like. Including creating threads about leaving MacRumors.

There has to he something other than announcing Leaving Macrumors that you can join in on? macOS? Mac applications? Alternative Finder apps.-- I mean the list is of course longer than that.. guess where I like to be on here?!

edited for spelling

Again, the controversy is not about the legitimacy of your feedback. It's about HOW you delivered it. You yourself mentioned that you probably should have left out the leaving part.

No one is attacking your actual complaint because no one has any issue with the feedback you provided. Arn has even made some adjustments based on it, and given reasons for why he can't/won't do certain other things.
