Remember this being the fastest rollout of a new iPhone model in China with Apple having to hand the devices to Chinese authorities (China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) some time before the actual release?

People will call me stupid for assuming any connections but I think it is stupid to not consider it if we are speaking of planned economy in a socialist market.

I couldn't agree more. Hundreds of people are dying each week in Liberia from Ebola whilst the developed world stands around with their thumbs in their arses but that truly pales in comparison to a Chinese company ripping off Apple's marketing....

Yeah if nature was only fair. This is a "Mac" forum not a "help save the devolping world with your 1 dollar donation that will do jack ****" forum. Why don't you fly to Liberia and help those poor people, oh wait. But sure mentioning them in a tec forum will do wonders for your compassion and really show everyone that you care. Damn people with their fake morals

These are obviously very similar but I don't care. Apple does the same type of things.

I wonder how come they don't mention how Apple borrowed heavily from the HTC One when designing the iPhone 6.... to me that's lazy and theft Mr. Ive!

Seriously? Because I think just the opposite. I think HTC copied diamond-cut aluminum design + slate-silver colors of iPhone 5 with HTC One M7 and copied gold-silver-space gray design of iPhone 5S with HTC One M8.

Firstly - I can't believe you edited that post as it does not show.

I'm not sure why you are so angry - I was just giving some perspective, I was not soliciting for charity, I was not claiming I can fix the mess over there. I'm also not sure how you can expect a problem to be fixed if there is no awareness of the issue.

I was responding directly to a post which said "This is one of the most disgusting things I have seen in the world in a long time". For me, one company copying the advertisements of another does not fall into this category and even making this statement minimises the misery and suffering which occur in this world on a daily basis. I found the comment sickening.

What's wrong with my comment? I did have to edit it thanks to safari freezing. The guy that wrote that comment clearly does not mean it literally, I mean come on. Do I need to mention that a child dies every time I type one letter on my keyboard? Enjoy saving the world with your fake morals and awareness crap and we continue with this thread of Lenovo blatantly copying Apple, which is actually quite sickening. ;)

Looks like a Samsung Galaxy S2 to me. Pretty much all cell phones have looked a lot like the S2 since it was released.

The advertising is hilarious though.

More a covert plan for the world but most don't see the world the way it is.

I look at it differently. We all knew who we were getting into bed with when we moved all our manufacturing to east Asia but the lure of ultra cheap labour was too good for the corporations to resist. After decades of being basically treated like slaves by western corporations the Chinese woke up and decided they want a piece of the pie. Then we get all offended that this communist country doesn't take intellectual property seriously? Ahem...

Sadly china was planned by the west, the bankers in Europe more than a century ago. china had no tech offers just several decades ago nor did russia for that matter. Thanks to the west they have huge industrial bases.

Why copy? This is pathetic.

Lenovo (and all of us) knew about the design & look and feel several months before the official release. Lenovo has taken it from there.

I had great respect for Lenevo. Not anymore, with this blatant lie and theft.

Heavily? Just lol :)
Matter of fact, I would say it's the other way around. People have short memory. It was Apple who came first with that sort of design style for antennas and HTC was just so darn quick to follow.

All phones look the same to me. They're all black mirrors with a button at the bottom. This isn't a matter of the phone looking similar since all phones look similar, this is the ad campaign Lenovo have copied.

Exactly. I do think the phones look similar but it's the advertising that is the biggest ripoff. And it's so stupid because it's not necessary. Same with Xiaomi. The reason people think they're ripping off Apple is because of their marketing and because their latest tablet uses the same color palette as the iPhone 5C. Seems to me these are areas where it wouldn't be difficult to be more original.

Or how about those chamfered edges Samsung's using in the Galaxy Alpha. Except whoops...Apple is no longer using them for the iPhone. And before anyone comments...yes I know Apple didn't invent the chamfer. But I don't remember seeing them a lot on phones prior to iPhone 5.

Leading PC and competitive mobile phone maker Lenovo may have been overly influenced by Apple's iPhone 6 when it was looking for inspiration for its new S90 smartphone. As reported by Gizmobic (via The Independent), Lenovo's S90 'Sisley' smartphone closely resembles the iPhone 6 with a marketing push that is almost identical to Apple's own promotional materials.

Though there are small differences between the two devices, the overall styling of the S90 is remarkably similar to the iPhone 6. Both phones include a rounded metal casing and measure up with the same 6.9mm thickness and 129g weight.

The mimicry didn't stop with the hardware design, as Lenovo also borrows heavily from Apple's unique marketing style. The Chinese manufacturer uses an almost identical product layout and brightly-colored, people-focused images that Apple typically uses in its advertising materials.

Lenovo addressed accusations that it had copied the iPhone 6's design, stating that though there are clear "external similarities" between the two devices, there would have been no time for the company to emulate the iPhone's design so soon after its launch. This isn't the first time competitors have copied Apple's iPhone. The Cupertino company waged a multi-year battle against rival Samsung over patent and trade dress infringement claims. Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has also been accused of copying the iPhone and the iPad in its line of inexpensive smartphones and tablets, with Apple's design chief Jony Ive going so far as to call the similarities in design "theft."

Chinese company, chinese way of thinking... no innovation, but great at copying and stealing other ideas

If you're talking about the antennas being placed along the top and bottom of the back of the phone, broadcasting through a break in the aluminium shell, then you're wrong. The One was first unveiled in February 2012, the iPhone 5 in September. HTC beat Apple to the punch on that one.

As Americans, and Europeans, and Arabs, and Africans, and Australians, and __________ have been doing for centuries. Just because the Chinese are doing it right this very moment doesn't mean it's something specific to them.

Now you know that doesn't matter. Which company came out with what first is moot. All that matters is when APPLE comes out with it. At that point the tech, design, feature, whatever ACTUALLY matters.

So when the company decides to improve on a design they originally created it's just them copying or keeping up with Apple.

All that being said, the design is very similar to the iPhone 6. . . . . . so what? Have we not seen what happens to Apple when they don't take design cues from competition? Things get real stale, real fast. Half of the features in the iPhone 6 and 6+ are blatant rips from Android and Samsung, and the still way more advanced phablet market that Apple is only now entering after 3 years.

People can think that all they want, but hell, the least people could do is get their facts straight before accusing people of tech plagarism. Like the guy who said the M7 copied the iPhone 5. How could HTC copy Apple when the M7 was unveiled nearly 7 months before it was first unveiled? Yeah, someone will probably say they copied the leaked shots, but even those didn't start popping up until a couple of months before the iPhone 5 reveal.

I will admit they did ape the colors of the 5S with the M8, though. Just about everyone is using Apple's gold color for their phones these days.

...and I have no idea why. I think it's about the ugliest color imaginable. I've even gotten into the habit of calling it "Smokers White". But hey, it sells, so some people must like it.

If you don't want to be robbed, build them here. I personally will never buy another Lenovo product in my lifetime.

Wow, just wow. I suppose if Gucci, Louis Vutton, has these problems I suppose apple will too.

I don't understand how multi-billion dollar companies employee the best designers and engineers in the world end up just copying other companies.
Why pay them in the first place?

Because, taking the easy route sometimes offers the best incentives. If people want an iPhone, but can't afford it or want Android instead, well, Lenovo (and others) are right there for them.
