Probably means that they did a pre-authorization. Which means that the merchant verifies that your account is valid and that sufficient funds are available to cover the transaction's cost.

The funds are deducted from your account and placed in a hold until the merchant ships the item(s) at which point they will be transferred to the merchant or the hold expires. That is generally a period of up to 3 days.

So while your computer may not be shipped yet, my guess is the hold means that it will ship tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest.

Thanks. The agent said that she will find out what is going on tonight. I guess she sent a message to China and is waiting for an update.

I would not be surprised if you see an order shipment update in tomorrow or Wednesday. Let us know and also let us know what you think of it. :)

I had an email from Lenovo saying that my "new estimated shipping date" is the 17th December. I remain hopeful I'll get the computer before christmas, but there's a reasonable chance that it won't be delivered in time

Had mine delivered late last week.
I'm generally very impressed. The screen is beautiful, and gives me 100% of AdobeRGB with an almost perfect factory calibration. As expected, the keyboard is amazing, though I'm not quite up to speed yet, because the key spacing is a bit different to my old MacBook Pro.

The fan noise seems to have calmed down since I first got it, unless I put it under heavy load, at which point I can see why people might have an issue with sound levels. That said, I don't think any other computers out there manage to fit a high power CPU and a dGPU into a silent computer. A 120 mV undervolt probably helped things as well

It certainly runs Lightroom much better than my MacBook, which is really nice.

If I am going to buy again, should I go for an i5 CPU? Previously I returned it due to the noise.

i5 should generate less heat and result in less cooling required. You have 30 days to test the theory :)

Thanks but it is only available as a customized model. It means I have to go through the painful waiting again. Also, they will start those warranties and return period the day the laptop leaves the factory in China. It took me almost 9 days to get the X1Y3 last time. I guess it will be worse due to the holiday season. Most likely another 3 weeks or so. By the time it arrives, Lenovo might have announced something new at CES.

I will choose 4K screen as WQHD is OK for media consumption but it is not suitable for my workflow if I need a laptop as my main work machine.

And they could announce something else in Fall 2019 and at CES in 2020 and the cycle continues ...

Is it louder then a macbook pro 15?

Of the posts I've seen, you are really annoyed by the fan noise. While the noise may occur less frequently the fans will spin up when pushing the CPU. The GPU also generates heat, and I don't think you have an option to select a lower end gpu for X1 Extreme. Why re-buy the model when you were dissatisfied with it? Did you not buy a yoga? is that not working out for you?

I have spent too much time on this. Maybe I have turned crazy being in this loop indefinitely. I must settle down on a machine in two months.

Yes, I am very sensitive to noise. The jet engine noise of the X1E drove me crazy and it was stressful to use it.

A reddit user found a way to reduce the noise by removing the mesh. According to him, the jet engine high pitch sound is gone using this method. There have been some requests for video or sound files to compare the sound before and after the removal of the mesh. However, nobody has posted it yet.

If I am going to get the X1E again, I will not use the 1050 GPU. Yes it is kind of a waste but I like the 4K screen and the keyboard. I will either get an eGPU or build a workstation if I need the power for work and do 4K gaming. If I get a eGPU, X1E may get noisy and the CPU may thermal throttle to the point that 4K gaming is not as good as doing it on a desktop. I considered the P1 but it seems that it is worse than X1E in terms of thermal due to the P series GPU.

The resolution of the WQHD screen of the X1Yoga is a bit low for me to use it as a work machine. It is lighter than the X1E but not so light to the point that I give up the 4K screen. It seems that at the end of the day, I have to get two machines:

- X1E for on the go work
- high end desktop for gaming and demanding work

Any better solution than this?

Get the X1 carbon

I'm 99.99% sure that you will be dissatisfied with the X1E, simply because you hated the fan noise. Also consider that you'll not be able to return the laptop if you perform surgery on it, i.e., mod the case/fans to reduce the noise.

One other point to consider, if you keep buying and returning Lenovos you may be flagged and unable to buy (or return) them. This will be your third Lenovo if you do return the Yoga and re-buy the X1E. I have no idea if (or when) they start flagging people for habitual returns but I say this as an FYI

I'm certain there's a 4k version
I don't think so

he 15.6-inch ThinkPad X1 Extreme (reviewed at $2,955) lives up to its name with a jaw-dropping 4K HDR display and excellent overall
No question, pricey but nice. I configured one during black Friday that was floating around 2k and it exceeded what I had for my MBP. In theory, I might have been able to sell my MBP for a decent amount and purchase this w/o losing money. My luck in selling my laptops these past few years has not been that great, so I wasn't jazzed up about attempting that.

My MBP is a solid laptop, I'm happy with the performance, its all but whisper quiet, no noise at all. The keyboard is what it is, and as long as it doesn't fail, I can live with the butterfly mechanism.

Had the X1E been out this past July, I would have gotten that over the MBP hands down.

The latter option at 2560x1440 500 nits seems like it would be somewhat comparable to the 13" MBP Retina 2560-by-1600?

Then try the dell xps 13. Which I have and has 4k

Is that directed towards @hajime?

I'm more of a 15" laptop person. I've used and owned 13" laptops and I always seem to go back to the 15" :)

Me too. I tried a 13” once, but it found it too small. I might consider a 14” though someday. But I like the combo of 15” plus SP.

Though the right 17” could maybe sway me. I do kind of miss my 17” MBP since selling it

Me too. After using 17" and 15" MBP for over 15 years, can't go back to anything smaller than 15" with higher res.
