Maybe. But they are pretty decent.

I took a couple of long looks at them this fall, but after visiting Microcenter, Microsoft Store and Best Buy and reading a the Razer forums about issues such as the speakers, heat and various other problem, I got talked down off the ledge.

Really looking forward to the hands on reviews of this latest model.

The was the one thing the MS store told me. They said they they can be really bad, but when you get a good one they are among the best. I just wasn't sure at the time I wanted to play the lotto on how many exchanges I would have to do to get a good one.

In the future I may wish to go 32 GB of RAM for my X1 extreme. Do any of you know what kind a ram would actually fit well with my existing 16 GB RAM from Lenovo.

Lenovo 16GB DDR4 2666MHz SoDIMM Memory
This might work:

Crucial 16GB Single DDR4 2666 MT/s (PC4-21300) DR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT16G4SFD8266 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071KP8CGJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_LRpqCbQ10XHA3

People have asked about the X1E in the Q&A section and they say it’s fully compatible.

I was looking at those earlier. The Lenovo version is $300 and those that you linked to are 116. Quite a spread. Thank you for the link

If you upgrade with the Crucial stick, let us know how it goes. Assuming everything's fine with my X1E, I'm sure I'l eventually want to upgrade to 32GB as well. I love how expandable the storage and RAM is for these models.

Well, I made my decision (I'm sure most of you are saying finally).

Its funny, I posted a number of times, how if the Lenovo X1E came out prior the the MBP, I would have bought that in a heartbeat, yet when push came to shove, I hemmed and hawed. The RTX flavor of the Razer is an appealing machine, but too many questions still exist regarding the quality and durability. My wife laughs at me, because I was calling one computer sexy, and the Lenovo the minivan of laptops :)

I ordered the X1E this morning, and saved a lot of $$. It seems when you press the activate coupon button you get 25%, but if you paste it in, you get 30% - woohoo. I was trying to see if I can stack coupon codes - that didn't work but after pasting the THINKJANUARY coupon code, I got a larger savings. I opted for the 4k/32gb/1TB model which came in at 2,286, that's 100 dollars less then the FHD/RTX/16GB/512GB Razer. Basically I'm getting a lot more computer for less then the razer. I threw on a 3 year extended warranty for 86, and taxes pushed the total cost to just over 2,400.

I can be obsessive, and sometimes I can act close minded, I was locked and loaded on the razer but as I said in an earlier post, other members here used logic, and its hard to refute the logic of the Lenovo

I'm really happy to get the 1TB model, because I'm tired of dealing with my image library being on an external drive, now at least I can store my lightroom catalog and images on the internal drive.

Lenovo promises same day shipping when ordering so lets see if it is processed and shipped today. Given what other people experienced here, I'll not raise my expectations too much.

I'm so relieved to get this process behind me, some may have thought this went quick from my post at the beginning of the week about possibly getting rid of my MBP to now buying it, but this was playing out behind the scenes since before Christmas.

Thanks to all who offered their input and advise, and I now look forward to my new baby arriving and I'm praying its defect free

The storage can grow with you as well. Aside from it coming with the 1TB drive, it does have 2 slots for SSD and can be configured in RAID 0/1.

Let us know how it works out for you. Lenovo does have a 30-day return policy, so you get a fair trial out of it.

IT's good to know about the 30 day return period, though I have to wait until late next week as the projected delivery date is next thursday. Someone wise once said patience is a virtual, I'm pretty much virtual-less as I prefer instant gratification but I can wait. I mulled, hemmed and hawed on this long enough, what's another week

Of course I'm on an older slower laptop that's not been that great to work on

I don't think you come anywhere close to hajime when it comes to making a decision :)

Congrats on your machine! If Lenovo came out with an i9 and a GTX 1070 MaxQ I would have bought that in a second.

I'm liking these new 2019 laptops. The RTX cards will make things interesting for not only gaming but professional work. But the X1E is a fine machine for a very good price. I want to wait and see what Microsoft does with the SurfaceBook 3 and hope maybe Lenovo doesn't remain so conservative with their dGPU and put in a RTX 2070 or above in one of their Thinkpads.

I ordered mine four days ago and still waiting for shipment so you may have to wait a bit. You got a good deal and please keep us posted. We will probably get ours at the same time.

I might into look at a Lenovo x1Extreme too.

HP are dealing with battery recalls and Dells are out for me.

I love the Surface Books, but want to wait until SB3 and I am more proficient in W10 before I try those again.

So it’s Lenovo or Asus for me. Just wondering what I’ll need graphics card wise to run a Cintiq Pro.

I appreciate all the back and forth as it helps me tremendously.

Hope your Extreme is just peachy @maflynn :)

My refurbished unit arrived this morning! I'm posting some photos below in case any of you are curious how a refurbished unit from Lenovo looks.

Inside the plain box it came in was this box with a Lenovo seal:

The laptop was secured by a layer of thick plastic, and the laptop itself was wrapped in another layer of plastic with a red security seal.

This sticker is on the back of the unit:

This was the only documentation in the box:

And here it is on my bedroom desk:

I haven't had any time with it yet beyond turning it on and going through the initial Windows setup, but the body and the display both look great. The power supply had a few scuffs on it. The design and build looks even nicer in person. Other than the fans spinning up for a few seconds a couple times during setup, it's been silent.

ETA: I'm resetting Windows right now for a clean install and noticed some light bleed in the top corners. If this was brand new and I'd paid full price I might be annoyed, but I got a good enough deal that I'm not too bothered. I just need a high resolution display with good color accuracy.

Congratulations on the new PCs guys! Really, really cool. Please do me a favor and keep updating this thread after your purchases with your continued thoughts and reflections!

I, myself, don't need a PC right away so will hold off towards the end of the year, probably until the RTXs and 9th gens get into the Thinkpad X1 Extremes.
