Now I’m getting like hajime. Just cancelled again because I noticed I only opt for the SATA drive instead of the PCIe faster SSD. So re-ordered with this and upped the memory to 32 gb.
Yikes.

Mine was shipped the same day I ordered it. I didn't do anything special, just the stock 1TB/32GB model that promised same day shipping. if there is any regret, its that I picked stock shipping and not expedited. The day its scheduled to arrive, I'll be working at the dojo teaching karate, so it will be a day later.

My refurbished unit arrived this morning! I'm posting some photos below in case any of you are curious how a refurbished unit from Lenovo looks.

Inside the plain box it came in was this box with a Lenovo seal:

The laptop was secured by a layer of thick plastic, and the laptop itself was wrapped in another layer of plastic with a red security seal.

This sticker is on the back of the unit:

This was the only documentation in the box:

And here it is on my bedroom desk:

I haven't had any time with it yet beyond turning it on and going through the initial Windows setup, but the body and the display both look great. The power supply had a few scuffs on it. The design and build looks even nicer in person. Other than the fans spinning up for a few seconds a couple times during setup, it's been silent.

ETA: I'm resetting Windows right now for a clean install and noticed some light bleed in the top corners. If this was brand new and I'd paid full price I might be annoyed, but I got a good enough deal that I'm not too bothered. I just need a high resolution display with good color accuracy.
Where did you pick it up refurbished? What are the specs on it?

My 2018 crashed just a bit ago with the latest Mojave. I’m seriously considering the X1E at this point I’m not convinced Apple is ever going to fix it.

I’m looking forward to hearing what you think of the machine. It’s one of the few I’ve seen that has two usb-c ports, which I absolutely must have.

Well my X1E arrived yesterday and I had some time to work on it yesterday and now this morning. I decided to get the higher end model that had the 1TB storage as opposed to the 512. I would have virtually broke even if I opted for the 512GB model but if I wanted to store my Lightroom library internally the 1TB model was needed. I don't mind paying a little more and I did opt for the 4 year warranty, and Amex extends that further so I'm happy with what I spent and what I ordered.

There wasn't much to the packing of the laptop, a little surprising but it was in very good shape.

The fit and finish is understated but elegant, if you will. Construction feels sturdy and well built.

Keyboard: The keyboard is excellent, the praises by others are well deserved.
Trackpad: The trackpad is inferior to the MBP, I don't particularly like how far down it goes. Its not defective as much as I've gotten so used to the Apple's force touch track pad that doesn't move. I've not had any time to test the palm rejection, as I'm in a desktop situation at the moment (working off my desk).

Fans and heat: Heat's fine, I've yet to push it hard, but I am only installing and configuring at the moment. The fans are overly aggressive. I believe there's a bios setting to adjust this, and I'll be looking into that and throttlestop to tweak the settings. Out of the box, its quieter then the Razer and the fans are not really much of annoyance.

Display: the 4k is gorgeous, My concern with scaling in gotomypc was well founded. I'm running off an external monitor but when using the 4k display the scaling was a bit of a problem. I'll be working with the zoom/resolution setting to find a decent setting that works for me when I need to use gotomypc. This isn't a show stopper, and the other benefits of the 4k screen outweigh this one annoyance.

Speakers: The sound is decent, not great I'm ok with it. The downward facing speakers are noticeable that its facing downward. The MBP definitely does have better speakers.

Overall I'm quite pleased and while i was debating (read obsessing) between this and the Razer, I'm definitely getting more computer for the same price. The X1E at the Razer price has a 4k screen, more ram (32GB) and 1TB drive. Conversely the Razer is a FHD/16GB/512GB configuration.

Can you re-edit your post? All of the images bar one aren't working.

Under workaround you will see a section that interests you. It helped with some of my apps, try it out.

Speakers any good?
I edited my post to include the speakers. They're good, not great and will pass muster but the MBP's speakers are better. The fact that they're downward facing is probably the biggest drawback. I have my laptop on a Mstand by Rain design and even with the laptop raised up, the downward facing speakers are not the greatest.

Shocking as there's plenty of room on the side for speakers

How reflective it is compared to the MBP?
From my limited usage, it seems a little bit more but I need to invest more time to determine that.

I've been playing with Throttlestop and various other settings and I'm fairly happy with what I have set. Temps are in the 40c range for normal work (office, gotomypc apps). I've yet to install Lightroom, so I have no idea how that work.

I ran some benchmarks prior to setting the BIOS to lower power profiles.
Firestrike was in the 6,600 range and cinebench in the 1,260 range I'm more temperature focused then performance, so I'm happy that the temps are maxing out at 80c so far.

How do you use throttle stop to undervolt. I have it installed on my dell xps 13 but no clue how to adjust the voltage and have it set on boot all the time. I used Intel extreme one and that always crashes when my machine goes to sleep. Trying to undervolt to 0.08

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the most knowledgeable and I may not be tapping the full the potential of the app.

The first thing I did was take some base line benchmarks, like using cinebench and noted the temps.
I then went into TS and clicked on the FIVR icon and in the middle I clicked Unlocked Adjustable Voltage.
I then selected an a negative Offset voltage for the CPU Core and did the same for CPU Cache. For me, I found -150.4 is working, but I started at -125, applied it and saved the result and then ran a benchmark. I continued to do that until the computer crashed and then backed off to the prior value. There's other settings to fully take advantage of the power of TS, but I'm happy with just undervolting. If I feel so moved I can also Disable Turbo.

How did you enter the second screen where you tweak the voltage

You might find this video helpful:

I offset my voltage in Performance mode by -100.6 and increased the turbo ratio of the 8850H to 47 on all cores. I also uninstalled and disabled some things that didn't need to be running in the background of my computer.

Even before downloading ThrottleStop, I've been very surprised and impressed by how quiet the X1E is staying for me. The fans only spin up when it makes sense for them to do so, like when I'm doing something taxing in Photoshop, and usually they don't need to go to max speed. Otherwise, for basic tasks it's staying cool and completely silent so far! Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed is the only game I've played via steam (one of the best games ever!). I'm not really a gamer and obviously this is an older title, but the temps stay in the 50s and 60s while playing, and after the basic adjustments I made in ThrottleStop I noticed the fan speeds stay low the whole time vs. occasionally needing to ramp up to keep things cool.
