Really tempted to bite the bullet on this. Without my missus knowing though hehe
I have a mac and recently bought the dell xps 13 last year AugustIf you have a Mac now, just tell her you got bored of the look and used some flat black Plastidip on it. Just kidding.. just kidding![]()
Congrats on your new babyAppearance/build quality:
Not the kind to take a microscope to the products I purchase, but this time I wanted to make sure that there was no exterior cosmetic damage. The X1 was in perfect condition, so absolutely no complaints with the exterior appearance. I do see a need for a wipe down from time to time for the fingerprints, but that’s no big deal since I’ve done that with all my electronics. Flex to the screen is so very minimal when touching it. But I don’t touch it, so not to worry about it.
I'm very pleased with the fans, it was a point where hajime had struggled with and that raised my awareness, yet I'm not only pleasently surprised but very satisified.I hardly hear them come on. I keep my performance set to better battery and the lenovo vantage setting to cool and quiet. I didn't alter the bios setting regarding performance, any tweaks have been within windows. I am using Thottlestop and that helps as well.Fan noise:
Fan noise is noticeable on high-performance setting, but not irritating to my ears and it’s not on all the time either. The whooshing sound subsides after a short period time and I don’t notice it anymore unless I’m using task that needs the fan to cool down the CPU/GPU.
I've almost always had issues with windows and sleep/hibernate. I find at times my X1E is not waking up my external monitor and that causes some issues if the laptop was in sleep. I chalked that up to having an Apple LED Cinema display, and some incompatibilities. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Boot-up:
Initial boot up time was OK, about 14 seconds the first day, and about 10 seconds 2nd day. I don’t have my computer set to sleep or hibernate, and the power setting is on high performance. I’ve heard issues using sleep or hibernate, so I just use the power button to power on. The short delay in booting up is not an issue for me.
Why bitDefender? Is it the free version?Installed - Windows Office + BitDefender
Congrats on your new babyI also don't take my laptops/computers to a microscope. I do look them over for obvious defects but overall nothing too intense.

Why bitDefender? Is it the free version?
I'm looking for a decent antivirus application and while MS Defender may be good enough for some, my company requires a more robust solution.
I came across this site https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/ and the youtube or article I read, stated they're a independent site. I may go with Avast but then I see BitDefender may have less of an impact on the system's performance.
I know, but I figured, having some feedback on why bitdefender over another would be a plus.As far as I know, Bitdefender (and most other anti virus companies) have free trial versions. I used those to see what impact it had on my system before buying.
Just got off the phone with Lenovo support. I’ve decided I don’t want to live with the backlight bleed on my unit, so I’m going to send it in for a display replacement. The light bleed is pretty severe in all four corners.. the worst I’ve ever had..and I would feel obligated to mention this if I ever sold it. Plus, I think it’s possible the uneven brightness is irritating my eyes a bit. I’ll let you guys know how everything goes.
Almost forgot to check mine out until I saw your post. All well for me including the dead pixel tests. How long have you had yours ? Was it still under the 30 day return period? If so, I would just get a new one.
I think it’s been under 30 days, but I’m happy with everything else (benchmarks say the cpu and SSD perform way above expectations) so I’m fine with a screen replacement.
Glad your display is looking good!
Me to. Was concerned that I would at least find something, but thus far all is well. Very good luck with the replacement screen. Have you played any games yet ? I won't download any until I get my system broken in a few more days.
Slightly of topic, but we do have a couple of posts regarding carrying cases. I opted for this laptop bag

The cost was 40 dollars, and it seemed fairly nice. The X1E was a little snug in the bag, a bit better then my old 9 year old waterfield bag (the waterfield's dimensions internally were 14.25) so this new one is a tad wider internally but still snug. Its much cheaper then the other bags in this thread, so I don't mind taking a chance on this. I do find the way the zipper (under the flap) is constructed, its a fairly flimsy and cheap. Other then that the fit and finish of the bag is rather nice. I'm traveling later this week, so I'll see how it works but when I was using it this weekend, it seemed good enough.
Thanks!
The only game I’ve played is Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed via Steam @1080 settings. It’s an older title and I can tell it doesn’t tax the GPU at all. The fans run quiet at very low speeds the entire time.
I played it a couple of the zombie games that we’re not texting at all and we’re kind of silly but I will try some more demanding games later like Tomb Raiders, Far Cry, Battlefield.
The one thing that does annoy me is the zipper, this stock image from amazon doesn't do it justice but can you how there's zipper extends beyond the internal dimensions of the bag? If basically flaps around and feels very flimsy. Other more expensive bags highlight the zippers they use. The major difference (other then maybe materials) that I see between this bag and say the nutsac i posted in post #702 is that there is a designated secured pouch for the laptop yet like the bag you linked too its not padded. The dimensions are such a laptop sleave may won't work. I am going away this weekend and I'll give it a good try then, instead of the day trips I've used this on which has not been much.I like it. Let us know how it wears, once you have had it for awhile. It is a nice looking bag for sure.
Results seem inline with what I was more or less expecting. I was thinking of a more hardcore gaming laptop but in the end, I figured let me get a laptop more geared towards how I'll be using the laptop for the majority of time. Some gaming on the X1E:
32gb 4k I7 1tb (will buy 3tb evo later)Congrats - what configuration?

The video complains about the settings that Lenovo employed showing it throttling when the temps it 80c, I'm actually glad that they chose that power profile. I'd rather of a cooler and quieter laptop and the lenovo has been very pleasant to use in that aspect.
Nice, that's what I got. With the second SSD slot, you can add on and that's what I'll be looking to do.32gb 4k I7 1tb (will buy 3tb evo later)
Yep, and I'm happy I chose this over the razer for a number of reasons.without getting extremely hot.
