I had a scary moment with my X1E, I was notified about a bios update and against my better judgement I agreed to apply. I'm traveling this weekend, and I NEVER apply any updates right before a trip. I broke my cardinal rule and wouldn't you know, my Thinkpad froze. The screen was on but black. The power button was glowing but nothing. I let it sit there for 15 minutes with the fans cycling on and off every so often.
Pressing and holding the power button did not turn off the laptop, it was stuck

I really thought it was bricked.
I popped the back off, and looked to remove the battery and cmos battery. Trouble was the battery didn't have a typical connector. See my image, I needed to use a spuger and pop the connector off from the opposite side of the wires. I was doing a lot of praying and praise the Lord, that I was able to get it off easily and waited a few minutes. Put everything back to together and fired it up.
Good sign - I got a bios reset error because the time was not set. Whew, dodged a bullet. I knew, I'd get a replacement but since I'm heading out tomorrow, I'd rather not deal with it.
I mention the battery connector here for the Thinkpad X1 extreme, since I failed to see any videos on removing the battery or connector. Also the bottom panel has plastic clips and you need to apply more force then you think you do by the hinge and it will work itself free.
