Some gaming on the X1E:

Having the most difficult time with STEAM for downloading games in that I cannot get past creating an account. Each and everytime I finally have my E-Mail verified, it tells me to go back to account creation and I cannot for the life of me able to finalize this with a new log in creation. Just starts over same begin a new account with email verification crap again as I did previously, and going no where. All I want to do now is download to my SSD some games and cannot do so. Read a number of complaints from others with same issues. Maybe just hook up a DVD external drive and go buy a game instead.

Another possibility is Good Old Games https://www.gog.com/
The games you buy there are DRM free and fully downloadable (also starting the game does not need an internet connection with GOG). There are also a lot of new releases on GOG, but you won't find the very newest AAA games, but you can find recent AAA games (1-2 years old or older).

Big proponent of GOG absolutely the right direction "no DRM" I don't often game, recently started playing the F.E.A.R. series again. Turn up the difficulty level and F.E.A.R.'s AI will absolutely hand you your ass in a heartbeat, if your not dialled in and paying attention  I like the challenge the games present and never the same fire fight :)

Unknown if it was Steam or GOG, but I got hacked for the very first time and bitdefender support help me out on this one. Thank goodness bitdefender was called to reinstall my software after they said they will give me two years for the price of one if I would keep it.

Nice, that's what I got. With the second SSD slot, you can add on and that's what I'll be looking to do.

Yep, and I'm happy I chose this over the razer for a number of reasons.
Yea i got the 8780 I7. Instead of the 8850h? Did I make the right decision?

There doesn't seem to be many other laptops using the 8850h including the RTX ones?

O nice. What's the difference between the two cpu?

Benchmark shows barely any difference

Yes, benchmarks show a small but welcome performance boost over the 8750H. How the scores translate to real world use is another matter. Another thing to note is that benchmarks scores often vary quite a bit for each chip and system configuration.. but you’ll be good with either one.

I think the base 2018 15” MacBook Pro with the 256 SSD and 555x has the 8750H and the 512 with 560X uses the 8850H.

Does it produce more heat?

I have no idea, I chose the configuration based on storage. That is, there was only one configuration that had 1TB drive. It included 32GB of ram (which I don't need) and the different processor.

Uhh? You can tweak the storage and cpu separately on the X1 configuration

For what ever reason, there was no a customize/build your own option, so I picked from a standard set of configurations. Maybe it was there and I was oblivious ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I had a scary moment with my X1E, I was notified about a bios update and against my better judgement I agreed to apply. I'm traveling this weekend, and I NEVER apply any updates right before a trip. I broke my cardinal rule and wouldn't you know, my Thinkpad froze. The screen was on but black. The power button was glowing but nothing. I let it sit there for 15 minutes with the fans cycling on and off every so often.

Pressing and holding the power button did not turn off the laptop, it was stuck :( I really thought it was bricked.

I popped the back off, and looked to remove the battery and cmos battery. Trouble was the battery didn't have a typical connector. See my image, I needed to use a spuger and pop the connector off from the opposite side of the wires. I was doing a lot of praying and praise the Lord, that I was able to get it off easily and waited a few minutes. Put everything back to together and fired it up.

Good sign - I got a bios reset error because the time was not set. Whew, dodged a bullet. I knew, I'd get a replacement but since I'm heading out tomorrow, I'd rather not deal with it.

I mention the battery connector here for the Thinkpad X1 extreme, since I failed to see any videos on removing the battery or connector. Also the bottom panel has plastic clips and you need to apply more force then you think you do by the hinge and it will work itself free.

Nice timing :p I fine with big W10 updates as everything is backed with redundancy, BIOS more careful. So far punched up 3 BIOS revisions on this ROG GL703GS, so confident in the update routine, equally caution applies :p

The X1E has had about 2 or 3 bios updates since I got it, so i thought it was "safe" I'm so relieved it worked out, bullet dodged.

I like it. Let us know how it wears, once you have had it for awhile. It is a nice looking bag for sure.
Whelp, I'm going to return the bag. My almost 10 year old Racer-x waterfield bag is doing a better job then this. The fit is so tight and the lack of padding made me uncomfortable. Once I packed a mouse, my glasses, charger and a few other things, it was clear that the bag was ill equipped to handle the laptop comfortably and my stuff.

I've just noticed one thing...

This topic is by far most popular laptop topic on this subforum, Only other rather popular topic is Surface Devices, but that topic is for multiple devices, not just one.

I guess Lenovo is doing something right :D

That’s a shame, it was a nice looking bag for the money. But it could end up being a really expensive one if it caused any damage

I found this sub-forum by accident and boy am I glad I did. Seems like more mature responses ;) than some of the others. I bought my Lenovo notebook because of this forum.

I started this thread back in August and still haven't bought the d*** thing. I'd take a bit of a beating selling my 2018 MBP though. I suppose I should sh** or get off the pot. lol

If my keyboard acts up again I am going to take the beating selling my 2018 MBP. I like it a lot when it works right, but I have no faith in it working right for the long haul when it can't even go two months before having a keyboard issue.

Try some gaming
I'm playing fallout 4 on it, and it does very well in high and ultra. I was playing on an external monitor and it was running well. I did run into a few spots where frame rates dropped on ultra. TBH being an older game, I'm not seeing a lot off differences between high and ultra anyways.

LOL likewise. i actually found this forum via searching for a thread about this laptop lol
