Lenovo contacted me and suggested me to buy it and try it. They claimed that alternation between dead silent and jet engine issue has fixed.

THEY *WANT* Me TO GIVE THEM A SECOND CHANCE!

If you are not happy with that, go to complain them!

Weren’t you also unhappy with it being a fingerprint / palm print “magnet?” BIOS will obviously not address that aspect.

No they want your money, they're not doing it out of the kindness of their heart.

If you are not happy with that, go to complain them!
Why would I complain? I'm merely stating that you were unhappy with the X1E, and not just one thing on the laptop, you delineated a number facets that made you unhappy. Its your money, do as you please, but the constant buying/returning of different models seems somewhat inefficient, but that's just me. You'll have to return your current laptop, its a Yoga or some other Thinkpad isn't it? Besides didn't you mentioned that you don't need the power or capacity of the X1E because you have a powerful desktop.

Either way, good luck and I hope you finally have peace with your decision and your laptop

You are right. It is a waste of time to buy and return. That is why I keep asking how the x1e behave after 1.19 update rather than just go ahead and try it myself.

Yes, that is another issue but I recall that you recommended a cleaner to clean the case.

I don't think too many of us applied that update, I didn't because I'm happy with how my laptop works

Besides, my definition of quiet, is different then yours I believe

Yes, cleaning the case is always an option and that matte surface cleaner does a wonderful job. But you do still need to be able to live with the prints in between cleaning. If it becomes an obsession then then the finish will likely eventually wear through, much like over cleaning a display can eventually take its toll on the antiglare coating.

Matte black laptops are a bit like matte black cars. They look great when clean, but they do take some extra care and maintenance and you have to be able to live with how they look in between cleanings.

Only you know what you what your tolerance level for the buildup of finger/palm prints in between cleaning is :)

My X1E has just shipped (ordered on 8th March) and should arrive in around 6 days. I'm so excited to be getting such a luxurious machine, I just hope it doesn't arrive with any issues.

Very impressed with jrichards1408 pasting job! I really hope I don't have to do that.

I cannot connect my c930 to projectors at school nor my home tv using anker usb-c to hdmi adapter. Somebody in class with x1c6 was able toconnect to the projector and worked fine. Previously x1y3 could connect to same tv using the same adapter. Any reason why does
my fans only turn on when im compiling code and playing games

Thanks for sharing. Under 1.19, is the machine silent when running Office and displaying Youtube videos?

I've been using Bios 1.19 now for about 6 or 7 days without any hick-ups and the fan does not come on as often for me. I'm on YouTube a lot along with Office software and no fans come on. When playing Tomb Raider it does occasionally come on for a few short moments, but not loud. Other than that nothing else to report about it.

Yea it's silent when coding. Video call and Web browsing and watching YouTube

hajime, it's worth pointing out again that processors are not made equally due to the tolerances when the silicon is cut as that is measured in microns. So one machine with the same bios and settings and configurations may run slightly hotter or cooler than the next machine. And of course some owners have the expertise to re-paste should that become necessary.

I realise I asked you this a few days ago, but can you recall how far you were able to undervolt the first x1e you ordered? That is also somewhat variable from machine to machine. I assume that undervolting didn't relieve your fan issues.

Of course, none of that changes your feelings about the X1E being a fingerprint magnet so you would need to get over that and make at least some compromises if you intend to re-order it.

I tried to undervolt but the cpu name was not listed so I hesitated to do that.
Quite often, it was completely dead silent or jet engine. Lenovo claimed that they have solved this issue but haven't heard from users.

hajime, I'm pretty sure you can still undervolt the CPU even if it doesn't appear on the list. If the CPU isn't supported then the option to undervolt in the software itself would either be absent or greyed out (at least in my experience).

My X1E should arrive tomorrow so I'll report back on fans/heat etc next week.

My X1E arrived this morning. To torture myself I've just looked up some of the 'X1E jet engine fans' threads. I'm currently just staring at it, I haven't actually turned it on. When it showed up I started to unbox it then I realised my old pink pyjamas and fluffy slippers lowered the tone a bit - a sharp business suit or pressed military fatigues would have been ideal. So I put the computer down, tidied the room and changed into a no-nonsense all black outfit.

My little L390Y arrived yesterday - terrific little computer and as quiet as a mouse (phew). Probably not right for hajime though as it lacks a 4K screen and is slightly smaller and heavier than the C930. But it's great value for money and very rugged looking.

Please try the following if possible:

- Basic Office Productivity work
- Youtube videos (non-4K)
- Youtube videos (4K/4K+HDR)
- Youtube videos (non-4K) on 4K external display
- Youtube videos (4K/4K+HDR) on 4K external display
- Compilation of simple programs under Visual Studio

I noticed that even for the Yoga C930, when connected to a 4K display alone triggers fan noise. However, the noise is not as annoying as jet engine.

I would say the Yoga C930 is the best MacBook Air replacement. The main issue I have with it is that it does not work 100% of the time when I connect it a projector that is required for my work.

Comparing with X1E 4K model and C930 4K model, do I see more things on the X1E? For example, on C930 I need to scale the font size to 300% but on X1E, due to the larger screen size, I only need to scale to 200-250%. In this case, am I correct that I can see more things on the X1E screen?

I received my 1xe while I was on a business work call oops

Smart money is to undervolt with ThrottleStop :) little work can prove to be very fruitful. I too roll with two systems on the road; primary is a big-lifter, secondary a passively cooled 2in1 with detachable KB. Both get it on in their respective realms, no fuss or issue and that's what really counts :)

So have you had an opportunity to start putting your laptop through its paces? what do you think? i love my X1E, its definitely one of the best laptops i've had in years.

What bios version is it rocking? I'm happy with 1.17, and so i'm not sure if I want to mess with success, the old if it ain't broke why fix it mentality.

I found for the X1E, running the 8850H processors, I could undervolt safely go to -140mV.

Some people said under volting lowers the performance while others said the opposite. So who is correct?

My XPS 15 has been able to be undervolted and tested at -160mV.

It's basically safe at -120
Some people said under volting lowers the performance while others said the opposite. So who is correct?

All undervolting does is account for how generous Intel is in terms of how much energy is supplied to their CPUs. The reason they do this is to cover up for manufacturing tolerances on such a complicated part. That's also why you can take two identically specced laptops, say with the 8750H Processor, and one can be undervolted to -160mV, while the other one can only be undervolted to -100mV - because due to the tolderances in the manufacturing process, they slightly differ. That's also why Benchmarks are always slightly different, too.

Undervolting alone does not lower performance -

But, if thermals are still tight even after undervolting, there are options to lower turbo clock speeds, delay turboboost activation, or lower base frequencies, etc. etc. to save even more on battery life and heat production with a sacrifice on performance.
