Leo stopped getting invited to Apple events around the time of the iPhone 3G and iPhone 4, and since then he switched to Android "because it was better." Since then he has been reluctant to say much good about Apple, despite their unprecedented success.

I'm sure his switch to Android being the same time he lost his access was just a coincidence.

Remember when he got angry at Twitter for using a name like "TWiT" and tried to get everyone on an open source messaging service, and spent show after show talking bad about Twitter? How did that work out?

Guy has a small man's complex.

Agreed. If you listen to his podcast he sounds like my gramps talking about tech. And very bias opinions against apple products.

When I got my Apple Watch and my phone rang and I answered on the watch and the caller never had to say I can't hear you and I was able to hear very clearly well it was at that point that if the watch didn't do anything else I was 100% sold!

I kind of lost respect for Leo when he got caught on camera cheating on his wife with his business partner. Now the business partner is his wife, and the other lady, his ex-wife. Not a good look especially getting caught on camera.

That being said the past few weeks I've been listening to MacBreak Weekly only because of their non-stop talk about the watch. MBW is slightly more slanted to Mac Users. Once I get my watch, I'll stop listening again LOL

Not everyone will agree, but I don't expect to think the Apple Watch is useless when it comes. My only real fear is battery life since I'm spoiled by Pebble in that regard.

Battery life was (and still is) my biggest concern with the Apple Watch. I've been wearing mine from morning till bedtime, and I have had about 50% remaining at the end of the day. I am sure I am using more than I will once the novelty wears off... but I'm also sure that the battery will lose some capacity as it ages.

I've come to peace with the fact that I will have to charge it every night. While not ideal, it will be OK. I've never worn any watch to bed at night. I put it on my dresser before bed. Now I will have to put it on a charge stand. It is not the end of the world.

Leo lost all crediblity from me when people would call in and he would give inaccurate info. He probably didn't know any better, but it would happen to all devices and all OSes. Really, I think the Geniuses at the Apple Stores know more about Apple and the Best Buy sale employees know more about PCs then he does. Kinda hard to run a show called 'The Tech Guy' when you don't know that much. Half the time I was streaming TTG in the car I would be yelling at the radio saying that isn't right!

Anywho, /rant. Personally I love my watch. I'm just getting used to actually wearing a watch (this is the first watch I have worn an entire day).

MBW is much more interesting because of the rest of the panel - both René Ritchie and Andy Ihnatko are great and have valuable insights.

Wow I just looked that up and saw his cheating scandal publicized on gawker. Yea he just lost a ton of a goodwill in my eyes.

Also he is supposed to be a tech guy, but him putting personal and explicit texts up to the public just shows how much an amateur this guy is.

...
But that's coming from a person that has routinely been a bit sour on Apple since Steve Jobs caught him pointing a laptop camera at the stage during an Apple event, which resulted in Leo not getting invited to any Apple events since. Leo denies he's bitter, but his comments seem to indicate otherwise.
...
What's funny is before that event, Leo seemed more than a little bias towards Apple products.

Leo obviously has personal preferences, but he oftens says things just to get a rise out of people. Last week he announced that anyone could see that Android is clearly the superior platform — he knows that's going to rile the Apple fans. I think he does that just to be contrarian (something John Dvorak does all the time).

Yea when I heard that comments I was blown away how much a moron this guy is. Each platform has pros and cons, but to outright say such a dumb statement shows this guy is just a goon.

MKBHD is an android fan, but he never makes retarded statements like that; and comes off unbias when he reviews Apple products.

Leo who?

Off to smash today's calorie goal at my first AW outdoor Bootcamp session - can't wait to see the results!

I might google him when I get home. But probably won't.

He's so full of s***. He bashes Apple about everything but uses Apple products for everything. In one sentence he'll refer to his Android phone, and the next sentence he'll refer to his iPhone.

He tries way too hard to not sound like an Apple fanboy, but he prefers Apple to everything else, but won't say that explicitly.

I guarantee you he will be wearing the Watch and he'll make some excuse like, "Oh, well, ever since this latest software update, I guess it's OK." Or, "I'll keep testing it so I can stay abreast..."

He's so full of it. I stopped listening to him a long time ago except for Security Now but I cringe when Leo talks too much.

He said this on his radio show the other day. Said it was an OK pedometer but that was it. I don't have the watch so I can't really comment but below are two first impressions that certainly don't share his opinion.

It makes me wonder if some in the tech world are overthinking the watch. Jason Snell's review was 2,700 words. The Verge employed over 30 people in its review. Perhaps the average consumer "gets" it better because they're not over thinking it or over complicating it.

I'll be curious to listen to the first hour of a Rush Limbaugh's show today. He's a big Apple fanboy who's been negative on the watch. But he received two watches (I believe as gifts) and he said after going through the online user guide he was becoming more intrigued by it. I only caught the beginning of his second hour where he said with heavy use he was getting 16-20 hours battery life so far.
In my opinion, the more distance there is between a person and their iPhone, the more beneficial the Watch becomes; a tech blogger whose smartphone is effectively glued to their hand all day is going to get almost no use out of a smartwatch, compared to say a stay-at-home parent who has their hands full with kids all day and their phone is sitting on a countertop somewhere.

I don't think tech bloggers living in 400 square foot apartments are the right people to judge the Apple Watch's usefulness.

I was going to make the same point. On his shows, he tries to play it down, but he seems particularly bothered that he's not invited to events anymore, especially given how low the bar is now for tech journalism.

Exactly my point :). I think you meant to quote my post. :)

But yes, exactly.

Leo Laporte — President of the Internet! Chief TWiT!

He cohosts Security Now! which is one of the best tech podcasts out there (mostly thanks to Steve Gibson). Even the 10 year old episodes are worth a listen for their explanations of how things like encryption and the internet work.

Another podcast of his I'd recommend is Triangulation, where each week he interviews some interesting individual in the tech industry.

It's going to take awhile for anyone to figure out if the watch is appropriate for their needs, even the 'experts'. There is definitely a learning curve in using it. I'm sure opinions are going to change after some experience with the watch. I thought that Jason Snell's piece was very fair and balanced, and overall he seemed like he was intrigued and liked the watch after a brief time with it.

I wouldn't listen to anything Leo says about something he has barley used or hasn't used. He thought you had to open passbook to use apple pay on the watch.

Leo is smart he surrounds himself with knowledgable people that can cover for his lack of modern knowledge.

When I was a kid I used to watch Leo on TV and thought he was smart and interesting. Since that time I learned about computers myself and find that he is pointless and doesn't do anything.

Ok, I'll bite...
Who is Leo Laportes?

I have no idea. But you know the drill around here. A lot of people act with the same simple blind love and devotion that a small child has for their mother 'you said something bad about mommy, you're mean!'

Then inevitably all the knives come out to dismiss the credibility of the reviewer because they didn't heap praise on the latest Apple product.

Maybe. I still think the tech press overall is overthinking the device. I'm seeing average non techies in my Twitter feed liking the device while some techies are struggling to review the device.

Well that seems to be the narrative. If someone doesn't like it then they ,"don't get it ", over thinking it, or anti-Apple.

I saw a video of someone demonstrating apps on it and one of them was the amazon app... He accidentally order an Xbox one.

One doesn't have to over think the awatch to see that having the ability to purchase stuff on amazon from a watch is useful.

There are a lot of apps, like the DJ app that really are not practical.
