I will say Ihnatko is brilliant, but he's no Apple fan at this point either, and thus should offer his chair.

I remember Andy wore Google Glass proudly like a jerk at one Google I/O, which suit him very well.
One thing I can say about him for sure.. is that he's tasteless aesthetically.

Macs, iPhones, and iPads are great communication devices, and perfect for getting work done, but they're also toys. You can play with them for hours, and not get anything accomplished.

This is why some people think the Apple Watch is pointless. It's missing that toy factor. You can't play with a watch for hours. It's meant for fashion and to tell the time. This one adds in notifications.

I'm not defending it, though. I've owned one for a few days and I agree -- it's kinda pointless. But I'm enjoying the exercise app... so I'll keep it!

One thing I hate -- when everyone here starts attacking any public figure that says something bad about Apple. People have different opinions, why get defensive like he's talking about your mother? Any reasonable person can see why the device isn't for everyone.

If they get rid of Ihnatko I will stop listening. It's as simple as that. He is the voice of sanity - Rene Ritchie defends Apple on almost everything, Leo sometimes goes overboard in attacking Apple, and Andy brings them both back to reality. I don't think MBW should be full of people that do nothing but fawn over Apple. They are FAR from perfect. Everyone on that show is a fan of their products in general, but of course they can (and should) have their issues with them, as we all do.

Leo sometimes says things just to rile people. I think it was a TWiT from a couple weeks ago where Leo said, "Android is clearly better than the iPhone right now, right?" There was a lot of, "Uhh...", "What?" and so on from the guests. I think this may have been the big reunion show? Can't remember. Over all though I think he can be hilarious, and self deprecating. I do think he's bitter about being dropped from Apple events, but I don't think it's colored his view of Apple products.

Someone who I LOVE on MBW who they've been having on more lately is Serenity Caldwell. I'd like to replace Rene with her; they're both unapologetic fans of Apple (and Rene is Serenity's boss at iMore) but she adds more energy and personality to the show than Rene.

Anyway, back to the watch, Leo has a different persona on the radio than he does on the TWiT network, and I think TWiT is mostly the "real" Leo. (Disclaimer: I am friends with someone who works for him.) His reaction to the watch on Sunday's TWiT seemed fair to me. He liked how it looks, but had a hard time listing features that made it better than Android Wear watches other than to say the Apple Watch looked far better, which anyone with eyes should be able to agree with.

Much of Leo's complaints may be addressed by future apps or firmware updates. We'll see. But he did like it overall, it just didn't blow him away like he expected (or wanted) it to. I'm looking very forward to today's MacBreak Weekly.

Would you really want an un-examining lemming as a qualified panelist rather than the honest broker Ihnatko is? I love Apple product but Apple makes plenty of mistakes that I would not want a panelist to bury just to make Apple look better. I respect a panelist that is NOT be a "fan" of any company, but just of technology in general.

Leo OTHO is a complete tool. If you listen to him for a while you understand he's just BSing his way through it and doesn't know jack about tech, but rather parrots what he hears or reads from tech sources. It's funny when a panelist has to correct him -- which is quite often.

But really as for MBW, make Serenity Caldwell the host. Youth up the show and get the old farts off the field! And I say that as a old-guy-sooner-than-I'd-like guy. The show has gotten so boring I only watch if I can't get to sleep. 5 minutes later...

I have no idea. But you know the drill around here. A lot of people act with the same simple blind love and devotion that a small child has for their mother 'you said something bad about mommy, you're mean!'

Then inevitably all the knives come out to dismiss the credibility of the reviewer because they didn't heap praise on the latest Apple product.

Leo Laporte has been around for 25+ years. He had a tech radio show, then was on TV for 10 years on a channel called 'TechTV' and for the last 10 years owns his own company which makes tech podcasts (Apple, Android, Windows, Security, Programming, etc). If you care anything about tech, you'd know him.

Many people know him and know his history. It isn't simply saying he sucks because he said something against Apple. If you watched him, you'd know that he started as an Apple fan, but since the iPhone 4 (about 5 years ago), he has a bias against Apple. Andy Ihnatko uses Android, but is not as dismissive of Apple as Leo. I like Andy, and trust his opinions for or against Apple, but not Leo.

LMAO. Is your judgement based on his sideburns, his pony tail, or his love of the monstrously huge Moto 360?

TechTV, RIP. Andy still uses an iPad and Macs- laptop and desktop. So does Leo.

It was after the iPad announcement where Jobs shot him daggers for holding up a laptop to stream the announcement. Which is a few months before the iPhone 4 release. Your timeline seems right on.

That coincides with the time where Android started to add some unique features that Apple to this day hasn't necessarily caught up (Widgets).

I used to listen to TWiT podcasts (fun fact: not an acronym but named after Leo himself), but when he started calling iOS a nonadvanced OS I had to unsubscribe.

I listen to some, not all still. Every time Dvorak is on, I listen. A few others, but what really turned me off was his guest just got worse and worse.

Thank God he no longer has Kara Swisher on.

It's little this and that actually. Like when Mac Pro just unveiled, all he could say about it is it will gather dust underneath. Seriously...

I want my watch to tell me the time, let me look at new texts and help me track my runs. I think this watch will be fine. Anything beyond that is a bonus. I could spend 400 on a Garmin watch or spend a little more on a nicer more functioning watch.

Leo emphatically loves Google. He strongly believes in the whole Google ecosystem believing "Google will never do anything wrong with my data". And he wants devices that get as much out of that ecosystem as possible. Also he really loves Android over iOS for the user interface. He places an extremely high value at "glance information" that Android widgets provide while not even considering the iOS notification panel can provide that same information.

One thing Leo and others lose sight on is Apple Watch is the only smart watch that fully integrates with the iPhone. The Apple Watch is the best wearable for iPhone users.

Also Leo has the ability to compare a complete Android ecosystem (watch and phone) with a complete iOS ecosystem and since he loves Google so much he will always be biased toward Android.

Lastly Leo has a 0% prediction track record for the success of any consumer device. He's a radio talking head that has had his own success in entertainment but his opinions should never be taken in any serious regard.

Long story short: Ignore Leo. He doesn't get it.

Great points. He said on the last TWIT that he wants Google to know everything about him because it makes Google now so much more useful. His guest from the UK was aghast.

... It makes me wonder if some in the tech world are overthinking the watch. Jason Snell's review was 2,700 words. The Verge employed over 30 people in its review. Perhaps the average consumer "gets" it better because they're not over thinking it or over complicating it.

It might not address the consumer "getting it", but I felt like the author of the watchaware article you shared captured some of the sentiment and I completely agree:
Like a regular watch, I believe the Apple Watch is not a product meant to be “played” with much. To me, you put it on your wrist, and forget that it’s there most of the time. When it needs your attention, it will tell you. Sure, there are times when you will interact, like say for a workout or hailing an Uber, but otherwise, I don’t see this as a product you sit around and turn on because you’re bored. It’s just not like a phone or tablet.

The UK guest, Lian Thomson, gives me the impression that he's one of those "PC nerds" that rejects Apple because "Apple". He gives no credibility to ease of use or appearance. Everytime he's on he bashes Apple for no reason other than the old Apple hate.

He makes John C. Dvorak sound reasonable.

I'll add that I used to listen to TWiT during the very early days but quit because of Leo's ego. I only recently started listening again but Leo's ego hasn't improved much.

He's misquoted in a way. He did say it doesn't do anything but he also said with updates it will. I listen to his shows every weekend, still enjoy them.

That is absolutely true of Iain Thomson; I recognize it because I used to be one. (Though I maintain I was only that way because Apple really was a bit of a joke technologically back in the 90's - once Apple caught up I eventually got over it, others not so much.)

I'm still not sure I see what people mean about Leo's ego. He makes fun of himself all the time. Even when he predicts the success or failure of something he acknowledges he's been wrong almost every time in the past. I disagree with him very often - but there's nothing wrong with that, I find him entertaining.

Agree. I like Leo. Been listening to MBW since the first iPhone.

When's he's not there I don't listen or watch it.
