When I was a kid I used to watch Leo on TV and thought he was smart and interesting. Since that time I learned about computers myself and find that he is pointless and doesn't do anything.

Bingo. Leo hasn't been relevant since The Screen Savers and Call for Help.

He said this on his radio show the other day. Said it was an OK pedometer but that was it. I don't have the watch so I can't really comment but below are two first impressions that certainly don't share his opinion.

Did he say that his Moto 360 is pointless and doesn't do anything?

I stop listening to him since he complained about the double tap to bring the top of screen lower on the iPhone 6's. So weird, why complain if you don't use it. It's actually useful for some people. He seems out of touch.

It makes me wonder if some in the tech world are overthinking the watch. Jason Snell's review was 2,700 words. The Verge employed over 30 people in its review. Perhaps the average consumer "gets" it better because they're not over thinking it or over complicating it.

I'll be curious to listen to the first hour of a Rush Limbaugh's show today. He's a big Apple fanboy who's been negative on the watch. But he received two watches (I believe as gifts) and he said after going through the online user guide he was becoming more intrigued by it. I only caught the beginning of his second hour where he said with heavy use he was getting 16-20 hours battery life so far.

As Leo ran from the post office with a watch like he just won the golden ticket, so he could unbox it like a giddy school girl on twit.

Dont mistake the Leo from the radio show to the real guy on twit, he couldn't wait to get his hands on it so he could "review" it for us. Haha.

LOL He's an even bigger gadget whore than the rest of us.

But that's coming from a person that has routinely been a bit sour on Apple since Steve Jobs caught him pointing a laptop camera at the stage during an Apple event, which resulted in Leo not getting invited to any Apple events since. Leo denies he's bitter, but his comments seem to indicate otherwise.

That was during the iPad keynote/reveal when Leo live streamed it through the laptop. Jobs gave him the stink eye something fierce.

----------------------------------

I like Leo when he has the right guest on TWIT. He loves new gadgets as speaks for the uninformed consumer which he deals with a lot on his radio show. That show is not for experienced tech minded people or IT people.

If John Dvorak isn't on TWIT, I tend to skip it.

-----------------------------------

He and his wife had been separated for a good year when the scandal broke. He should waited til lhe was divorced but I'm not going to judge.

----------

He's so full of s***. He bashes Apple about everything but uses Apple products for everything. In one sentence he'll refer to his Android phone, and the next sentence he'll refer to his iPhone.

He buys every major phone that gets released and is always switching phones. It's all a tax write off for him as a business expense since he 'needs' to get experience with the phones to help callers calling into his radio show.

I'd do the same thing in his position.

I listed to Sunday's TWiT this morning. My impression from Leo's comment was that he was disappointed with the Apple Watch now that he has one. That he didn't really feel it offered any killer app over what's available on Android Wear.

FWIW, Leo also thought he saw a scratch on the sapphire crystal face of the 38mm SS Apple Watch he had. I'd be very surprised if that were true, and I find it curious that he just left the issue hanging.

Oh my gosh you hit it right on the head...

Leo was a HUGE apple fan back in the screen savers days. He even got Kevin Rose to support apple when he was the"dark tipper" pc guy.

He is now extremely bitter every time they send out apple invites and hes not invited. He comments on it every time that hes not invited.

I have nothing against Leo, I still watch twit but I think its funny how he goes out of his way to dis apple now. Seems like when they were the underdog (under Microsoft) they got a lot more love from everyone.

I was an apple fan then and now, but I still own a pc for work and games.

Did he say that his Moto 360 is pointless and doesn't do anything?

Actually, he did. He seemed underwhelmed by smartwatches in general. He had hoped the Apple Watch would totally revolutionize the category, but is disappointed that it doesn't really provide any new innovations. He described the taptic engine as just another form of vibration that other watches have.

To say Apple hasn't innovated with the Apple Watch is a little unfair. Apple's innovations may be subtle, but the entire package has been thoroughly reimagined. For instance, the Apple Watch's "vibration" is silent and cannot be heard as it is in other watches and mobile devices — and it's creatively used to give directions and send messages. Apple has put more thought into the watch than just marketing — it's a clever and useful device.

However, it's true that it won't be long for Android Wear to catch up — Google has already created a new version that includes Wi-Fi support, wrist activation and a way to let you draw your own emojis and send them to someone. Apple may have showed its cards too early.

Leo's point was if you are an Android user, you don't have to be jealous of Apple users because of the watch. However, he avoids mentioning that the Moto 360 looks like a hockey puck next to the Apple Watch (see Before You Buy #171 for his Apple Watch unboxing).

If anyone wants to hear Leo's comments for themselves, they are in TWiT episode #507 — the Apple Watch discussion is the first topic after a brief review of the Nepal earthquake.

I kind of lost respect for Leo when he got caught on camera cheating on his wife with his business partner. Now the business partner is his wife, and the other lady, his ex-wife. Not a good look especially getting caught on camera.

That being said the past few weeks I've been listening to MacBreak Weekly only because of their non-stop talk about the watch. MBW is slightly more slanted to Mac Users. Once I get my watch, I'll stop listening again LOL

What makes this even more funny is the watch he has is his wife's 38mm who let him use it until he gets his 42mm in.

On MBW he really has to get rid of himself and Andy Ihnatko - it would be a much better show then.

Thanks. I don't have problem if he's fair.

I thought Leo was honest and fair with what he said. He said it didn't bring anything new to the table. Not like iPad or iPhone (both of which changed the scene). apple watch he said the other manufacturers already do the same so its not step up.

I didn't hear him say anything bad about apple watch.

He did say maybe once developers get their hands on it maybe it will change but as of now it doesn't do much that he finds wowing.

Reminds me of this:

YouTube: video

I've no idea what that has to do with the Apple Watch, but I'm glad to have seen it. I remember him joking about Mike Arrington on some of his shows, but I never knew what he was referring to. It also explains why he sometimes goes on and on about he will never again accept a loan of a device to review or sign an NDA.

For whatever reason, he doesn't want anyone to think he's in anybody's pocket. It might also explain why he puts down Apple every now and then — for years it seemed like he was nothing but a shill for Apple and clearly he doesn't want people to think that.

Hey.. I found a link to the TWiT discussion of the Apple Watch, so anyone interested can just see what was said:

I like Leo. Despite his willingness to say negative things about Apple when he believes it is appropriate, he is obviously a fan of the products too.

When I first got my watch, I was somewhat underwhelmed too. I'm gradually enjoying it more as I'm accepting it as "just a watch," with some great iMessage and email notifications. I'm not sure I needed to spend $750 on that with tax, but it is nice.

To be fair I suppose if you have had several smart watches like Leo has and you didn't use an iPhone as your daily driver the Apple watch might seem so so. I've watched his reaction video and he didn't really so that it was rubbish just that he feels that it's no different to the other smart watches on the market.

I've taken a keen interest in the smart watch market but the Apple watch has been my first. So it's still all new to me and I guess that makes me easily pleased ##

To hopefully ease your mind on the battery life, I had the same "fear" and I am pleasantly surprised. Mind you, you will have to charge every night and you may only have 5 - 10% left at the end of the day, but so far it seems ok. (38mm sport is what I have used, still waiting in the SS 42mm)

Yesterday, I woke at 5:30 a.m., and I strapped my watch on before I stepped foot on the floor. I was in bed at 8:50 p.m., and my battery was at 18%. That was a day at my office (a small college campus) and a 40-minute workout in the gym. I haven't had any anxiety about the battery life yet. However, tonight I meet with my trainer, and I expect my watch to be working harder than it did yesterday. I'm anxious to see the battery when I get home tonight.

I used to watch Leo on TechTV years ago, and the show was at least entertaining, if not always correct. The "tech help" Leo dispensed was at a level my grandmother would typically seek, so it suited his core audience of viewers and they cherry picked callers with questions that could be answered on air in under 3 minutes.

My biggest gripe with MBW is the advert reads are 5+ minutes for products most every podcast listener has already heard about, I fast forward right through (thanks Overcast!). Also, it takes 3 minutes of intro, ads, and dead air time to even hear the hosts voice that week.

It's plainly obvious Leo went sour on Apple following his banishment from their events. Someone (SJ himself?) caught him live streaming on a laptop after everyone was told not to. That was it. From that point on, Leo heavily pushes Google and is always saying how he didn't get an invite to this event or that one.

Worse to me is that Leo purchases EVERY product on the idea of "I have to know about it." Sorry, your Android phone daily driver isn't doing justice to the Apple watch on your wrist. How's about Rene take over MBW and you can stay on the Google segment? Leo talks over people, doesn't have his own sources (they just summarize the news) and is past the shelf date.

These days I listen to The Talk Show, ATP and RelayFM content, it's more timely, better informed and younger hosts, and there's less ad garbage. I will say Ihnatko is brilliant, but he's no Apple fan at this point either, and thus should offer his chair.

I like Rene but man he is a total Apple fan boy. I really like Andys view on things, but Alex Lindsey is just a ****!

Agreed. Alex is broadcasting to a segment that isn't interested, professional videographers and production companies who spend $60k in an afternoon and then spend another $45k on crap the next shoot. There's probably 4 people in MBW's audience that relates on any level to Alex, and he sounds pompous on air.

One doesn't have to over think the awatch to see that having the ability to purchase stuff on amazon from a watch is useful

For whom? Especially when said purchase needs to occur with a connected iPhone around. Along with many other apps, this seems like a pretty useless function of the watch.

TBH, it's the apps that offer a quick view of glanceable data that will (for now) that will be the most efficient and most practical use of the watch.

I much prefer MBW when they have guests on it. They had Gruber on a while back, not sure we he's never been back on, I do like his Talk Show but it's usually only him and one other and can get quite boring.
