Why shouldn't a fanned stack work from the left or right of the screen?

Is Apple's excuse that the earth's gravity would interfere? :p

There's more width than height on most screens, so it might even be preferable fanning from the side.

As one of the moderators pointed out a while back, it would look like a pen!s.

Wow, and I bet everyone would totally get that and not just strange people with their brains in the gutter. It would be a huge issue and Apple would have a class action lawsuit on their hands the moment a parent sees their daughter looking at a pen!s stack.

I think Apple just figured it looked weird and never gave it a second thought.

i give you... the penis stack

Screencapture 1.jpg

i can see why Apple didnt include fan stacks to the side dock in the retail build. it looks very weird. also the filenames cannot be arranged horizontally as there is no room so it looks like this is why Apple left it out... just doesnt work.

Haha, lol. Well, we can all rotate our screenshots:p.

But on the topic, the finder arrow at the end of the stack adds a neat touch.:D

No, I'm sure he meant ctrl. That's the default for moving through spaces. I use it all the time (though I use ctrl + # of space, not arrows). Either or is fine.

That's really cool, I didn't know you could just press the number on the keypad. I've been using Control + arrows. Thanks!

If the side-stack were happier, the filenames could be placed horizontally below the icons and extending outward.

i was going to make the stack happier but thats how it would look if fan stacks where on the side dock ;)

On my iMac, in 10.5.1, when i wake the computer from sleep, it takes like 4 seconds to get the mouse active and stuff, really annoying, and a waste of time. in 10.5.2, the mouse, and keyboard come alive after .2 seconds, i barely notice a lag, not even sure if there is in the first place!! so really happy, i can get started with my work as soon as i wake the computer.

still airport problems:mad:

Nice find. I love the option key. You can get so many extra options with that option key in different apps.

IIRC, those have been there for a while (with at least 10.5.0). :)

The two different menus will come up with just right-click if you're over a word or just blank space in a web page.

But the last one is new, and for a fact.

Who said anything about the last one? ;) :)

I'm just happy that .2 has been much better so far in terms of waking from sleep and giving me other issues. I obviously can't judge completely yet, but it looks much more solid.

That's my favorite new thing with .2. there is no delay from waking from sleep. It works instantly, i don't waste time.

Indeed. I've had no issues so far with waking from sleep.

However, the pessimist in me is sure something is going to go wrong (Murphy's Law always applies :p).

Agreed, and the slight jumping of my mouse for a few seconds coming out of sleep and the wonkiness where my Bluetooth wireless Apple keyboard and mighty mouse where I'd need to turn Bluetooth off and then on again to get them to reconnect are both fixed, works absolutely perfect.

And thanks for posting the Time Machine trick, that sure is a nifty one. :)

Those of you who have the iCal icon in the menu....how do you do that?

i was going to make the stack happier but thats how it would look if fan stacks where on the side dock ;)

is that an ical reminder?! or is this a feature i dont know about it?! how did you get it?

that is iStat Menus. best menu bar app eva! i wanted to have a calendar only a click away without opening iCal.

I'm not sure if this is exclusive to Leopard, but today I just found out how to close widgets on the Dashboard without clicking on the plus first. Just hold down the Option key and hover over the widget you want to close. The close button will then appear on that widget so you can close it.

That was even around in 10.4
