Something I've been waiting for is here finally. Either I didn't know how to do this in Tiger or this is a new feature. If you select multiple files and and hold down option and drag them, it will move all the files. Tiger behavior doing the same thing only moved the first file selected.

Hmm. I never press "option" when I do this Tiger. I simply select several files and drag them around (they all move). They will all also respond to spring folders, trash, etc.

Drag within the same disk volume = move
Drag to another volume = copy
Option-drag within the same volume = copy
Option-drag within the same folder = duplicate

Under the Accounts setting in System Preferences you can change where you home directory is situated. No longer do you need to use NetInfo.
If you right click on the account you want to move the directory for you will see an advanced options menu.

can i change my home folder to a different partition? will that work? i dont wat to stuff up my system as i just installed leopard.

Print multiples on same page

If you are printing an image and want to print more than one copy of the image on the page the printer dialog will allow you to change how many copies of the image are printed on the same page.

Small but useful (will probably annoy someone though)...

If you hit return on a file name, it used to highlight the entire filename, including the file extension. When you started typing, the extension would be wiped away, meaning you would have to manually retype it, or be left with a file with no visible extension.

Now when you highlight a file name, only the name itself is highlighted. You can type a new name for the file without having to retype the extension.

If its not on your toolbar, it was not on mine, right click (apple click) on the finders top tool bar and select "Customize Toolbar" and then add it by dragging the icon to the tool bar and hit done.
Ah thanks. Now, how about navigating in full screen? It's supposedly a slide show, but I can't seem to get it to move to the next pic in the folder, either automatically or manually. When not using fullscreen, arrow up/down lets me move to the next/previous pic.

I guess the finder toolbar is a preference ported over when upgrading. I think fresh installs would have the quick look icon by default. (it's in the default tool bar)
but who would want to move the mouse and click if you can just hit spacebar?

Folder sizes in list view

Not sure if this is new, but it's new for me: in Finder (list view) right click the column bar click View options and select 'Calculate all sizes'. Folder sizes are now shown instead of --

That is a HUGE one for me and was one of the reasons I was using PathFinder instead of Finder! (that and the tabs, come on Apple, add Tabs to Finder now! :)

Im not sure if I stumbled upon a bug or tip, but when in finder, browse to a smart folder/saved search(doesn't work in a normal folder), rename a file, put your cursor between the first and second letter, press 'esc', and this pops out:

I think it depends on where your cursor is and checks possible words against the dictionary. Selecting a word and hitting enter doesn't do anything though.

Ditto for me - also believe it or not one of the main reasons I was looking forward to updating.... I manage a lot of files on a daily basis - now if only Automator would let you do alphabetical lists with a prefix - I still use "A Better Finder Renamer" for renaming batches of files in sequence.

This is something new, right?

option+command+I will bring up the 'Inspector' in Finder, which is basically the Get Info Window but it changes as you select different things and it is a modeless window.

That's the multiple selection tool, it changes as you select different things but the main difference between that and command+i is it shows info for multiple things

Ha, that feature has been around since at least OS 7 in 1995! But if you didn't know about it before, then it's new to you, so enjoy! :)

I would upgrade to leopard just for this feature, it's a necessity!

Thats sweet but it only does very basic math for example 5^5 doesn't work.

Chances are it is there but it is a case of getting the syntax right (although yours is the most obvious). LN is there for example. Does anyone know where apple documents these kinds of things.
