Just so some people know....

Not everyone has problems with Leopard. They're quite magnified here because people come to forums to get help for their troubles. I'm running Leopard on two Macs and neither of them have had any issue. The only problem I ran into (with X11) was fixed with 10.5.2. Hell, if anything, Leopard seems to run faster than Tiger (after having used Tiger on this same machine for almost a year), and doesn't appear to use much more resources. A little bit more RAM, but RAM's cheap these days, and not enough more to be an issue. Since the 10.5.2, my CPU seems to run cooler, even.

Agreed!!
My wife has a 1.25 PPc mini running Leopard smooth as my butt. My blackbook gained speed when switching back and forth through cs3.

Always good to hear the success stories out there. We hear so much of the problems around here because that's what forums are for, and so things get blown way out of proportion. Of course there are people who have lots of trouble with Leopard. Of course it has bugs--it's a new OS. But how many people do those bugs realistically affect? A fairly small minority. If the problems were really as pervasive as they sometimes seem after hanging around here too long, then one could start wondering how ANYONE uses Leopard. But the truth is most of us didn't have issues, and are quite happy :cool:

(Not to diminish those who do have problems; it's quite unfortunate for those who do, but let's not accuse Leopard of being so bad.)

I would like to add here that I love Leopard and couldn't be happier. Much better then Tiger IMHO. I hated the translucent menu bar but it is gone for good.

I'm also not having any issues with 10.5, it's a lot better than Tiger in my opinion. There are just so many features and refinements that make the entire experience that much better, and it runs solid as a rock (and I never shut my Mac off or restart it, sleep mode all the way!)

Now get this one
I tried to revert back to tiger last night and it would not load. I tried everything

This is just disgusting so I had to spend a whole day reloading leopard

this company has really digressed - this stinks

When the NeXTStep gurus left this company headed for hell in a lead sled

I would expect them to merge with sharper image.

Nothing but a "TRINKET VENDOR" NOW!!!!!!!!

Don't ever try to revert back to an older OS. Its too tricky. Just make a backup of your files, do a complete erase & install & move your files back manually. Reinstall all your apps too.

that is the point - you can't they now have some mouse setup ******** and even when I erased the whole disk Tiger still would not reload.
Like they screwed up the magic block or something. Typical trinket crap after all the enterprise guys have left.

Leopard = bugs.
Leopard = NEW OS
Leopard = unproven ground
Leopard = GONE from my Macs!
Tiger = installed on my Macs (PHEW!)

Summary: Leopard, truly DOES suck - it just sucks in differing amounts, according to personal experience... but it *DOES* suck. Anyone denying this is either:

1/ Naive
2/ A fanboy
3/ In denial, and ALL of the above too

Well OBVIOUSLY. Everyone that isn't 1) Naive, or 2) a fanboy knows that if 5 people post on the internet that something is bad then it clearly is and everyone else that has a great experience with it is just an idiot. OBVIOUSLY

Even more so when a 5 month old thread is dug up to prove it. That just shows just HOW big a deal it is that it's worth rehashing over and over until all the naive fanboys (you know, the ones that actually are using the OS with no major problems to speak of) get a clue.

You're still a fanboy if you're using Tiger. You must use Classic.

IMHO, Leopard has more flaws than it does improvements.

Stacks has crippled the way I access all my Applications and Documents. The new side bar makes access to shared folders & files less efficient. The new Dock is an ugly, hard to read and requires binoculars to see what programs are open. (give us back our arrows!). The new folder icons, although nicely designed, simply don't follow the design of the rest of the OS and that aside, they make location of enclosed files and folders hard, due their difference being far to subtle.

Having used Apple computers since since my first Mac Plus, I consider myself a loyal fan. I'm sad to say, on this occasion Apple has simply "tarted up" Tiger. Yes there are a few "cool things" but on the whole this OS isn't a worthy successor to Tiger. 10.4 and a half :(
I love Stacks. If you don't, don't use them. I also love the new sidebar and find it to be a massive improvement. I don't see any reason whatsoever for anyone disliking the perfectly readable Dock. I also much prefer those little points to the old arrows. The folder icons are fine and distinct.

I'm a loyal fan, too (not fanboy), and I think Apple did an amazing job with Leopard. I'm having difficulty using Tiger because it lacks so many of the features I've grown accustomed to. Leopard is indeed a worthy successor to Tiger.

Leopard typing issues

Sorry little new to this but i am having a fairly annoying issue with my mac mini, when im typing in almost any program and I'm tabbing fields all of a sudden after 5-10 tabs it will go into the next field and the keyboard will not respond, not typing no nothing. I have to click out of the program I'm in, onto the desktop or another app, then click back and it will work...lame haha. Any suggestions?

I love Leopard and wouldn't trade it for Tiger. Quicklook is awesome. Networking my Macs is so much easier now. And stacks are great, now that they have given us different view options. My only problem has been with printing to a WiFi printer with my Mac Firewall on.

Just because you had problems doesn't mean everyone is. Mine works just fine except a few application incompatibilities.

Ha ha! You're just mad because you couldn't get your crap working so you crap on others for having a good experience with their computer.:p

On a side note, glossywhite's post wreaks of a Windows user trolling.

I got to use Leopard for the first time yesterday when my iBook arrived.

Even on 512 MB RAM, it's fairly quick, enough to run the iLife suite, and even a game or two.

Stacks is pretty worthless, but Spaces is invaluable.

I haven't noticed any bugs, maybe I'm lucky there.

Well well well. Obviously there are enough issues with Leopard to warrant a new OS in less than 2 years time with Snow Leopard. I think Apple's "just tweaking things up" stance is code for "we know we screwed up a bit with Leopard & are acknowledging that." They probably spent too much time on the iPhone if you wanna know the truth about it & released a product that wasnt quite where it needed to be.

And Im sure a lot of you aren't having issues, but many do. Not to mention all the minor annoyances that I wont go into. Im not saying its a total POS, but it ain't quite up to those standards either, IMO.

Listen, Im one of the biggest Mac fans out there obviously & I've been around & used Apple's products long enough to know when they screw up & how they go about fixing it. This is one of those times.

I had problems on my Core 2 Macbook back with 10.5.0, but they were mostly application compatibility issues. After 10.5.2 I haven't had any problems with Leopard. It does take noticeably longer to boot and expose/dashboard effects are definitely missing frames compared to Tiger, even after the graphics update.

Back when I was having problems I did briefly go back to Tiger. At first it did appear to be faster, but after a while I started to notice things like application performance which was better under Leopard.

Ever since I moved to 10.5.3 on my C2D Memrom laptop I have been having alot of Safari lockups and when resuming from Sleep the Wireless just wont work, either the Airport card locks up or it just never connects. Have to do a hard reset to get it work again.....

Prolly something else going on....but still...10.5.3 DID bring me some issues, and I am no pro-mac-osx guy so maybe it has nothing to do with the update.

I'm still back on Tiger, and still loving it. Leopard was slower on my machine - period. (C2D 2.15 / 3GB / 256 NVIDIA) Tiger has been faster, more stable, and brought back all the features I lost by "upgrading" to Leopard.

Quick-look was the only sacrifice, and that was the only new feature I actually made use of in Leopard.

I still have a partition with Leopard, so I can screen share with the folks, but I haven't booted it up in over 2 months now.

Random side-note. Two of my friends have Hackintoshes, and both of them have been trying to find a way to ditch Leopard and install Tiger after seeing it in action.
