The iPad 3 was a flawed device form the start, why else did Apple discontinue the device and is STILL selling the iPad 2?!?

the increases the GPU to be able to run the retina screen but still had the same CPU, huh? Results: a slightly more sluggish experience then the iPad 2 which is noted in every professional review and benchmarks have the iPad 2 beating the iPad 3 because Apple didn't upgrade the CPU along with the GPU

now here we are with the iPad 4, and the CPU boots has FINALLY arrived along with the GPU boost, and we get the FaceTime camera upgrade that SHOULD have come out with the iPad 3

the fact it's getting discontinued shows that Apple knew it was a flawed machine, so I am personally happy they quickly got out the new iPad 4

PS: I already sold my iPad 3 32GB for $540, so if you want to sell your, do it now

I thought the Ipad 2 had a A5 and the Ipad 3 had a A5X

After buying and returning 4 ipad3s that had crappy screens, I'm glad to see it discontinued. Certainly wasn't their finest product and Apple probably knew it.

Its the march of technology. The processor was upgraded to a faster one. This is good news and how the industry works. It does not mean that previous units were "flawed".

Yep...uh-huh...whatever

The OP has a point - clearly the release of the new products today is an admission they're behind global warming, apartheid and Hanson.

Sorry...the data indicates that the iPad 3 is a huge success in all measurable ways.

And btw, iPad 4 isn't a competing product. Samsung releases a new Galaxy because they think ipad sucks. Apple releases a new ipad because they're evolving their products to stay on the cutting edge.

But isn't the iPad 4 an equally flawed device? And if not "flawed" then clearly another interim product. Same shell, same huge bezel, same non-bonded glass, same weight etc. It's tough to recommend the 4 over a refurb/discounted 3 because they're essentially the same product.

The ipad 4 is just what the ipad 3 could have been but apple is a business not your friend i will buy a surface to try something new now:cool:

I'm gonna stop following Apple with it's new toys... I want to have my money in my pocket. Got the iPad 3 a few months ago and planning on staying with it until it dies

hey people just be glad you have these things, some people can't afford any of them and really want them! Not everyone can have an iMac, macbook pro, ipad 3, ipod touch 5, ordered an iPad 4 or iPad mini, an iPhone 5, and a previous model for backup at the same time

How was the 3 flawed? Mine worked perfectly and is still my favorite iPad. I ordered the 4 and the mini and I know someone who will be overwhelmed to have my "old flawed iPad 3".

this thread is a big fail.

Also, there's no rush to sell mine. Why?, because other people tend to be rational and will not even consider ideas like you purport.

Because its not an iPad 4 it's a refresh of the iPad 3, the update was to give it a lightening connector with the newer CPU for good measure, probably to try and give people more reason to upgrade.

Anyone who updates their 3->4 is stupid, but the fan boys will since they don't feel cool anymore.

The newer iPad will come in the next 6-12 months and will be a major release, this iPad was almost a silent update.

My goodness. The voice of reason.

Yeah but the iPad 4 has the same screen so this won't be fixed, that's if there was anything to fix in the first place. With the amount of panels that are made, its inevitable that there will be some with screen issues.

I would venture to say that the iPad 3 should have been the iPad2S. The A6X should have been released alongside the Retina display (4X the GPU power, commensurate with 4X the number of pixels).

A better, faster version that has the 3s kinks worked out isn't considered a new model? Don't get me wrong, the 3 is an excellent device, but I think Apple could have put more engineering and testing into the 3, which is disappointing. Being updated so recently to the previous model it seems like apple really wanted to fix the 3s flaws.

I also never had "issues" with the iPad 3, but it did not run as smooth as the iPad 2, that's a fact

It didn't??? I never had issues with either my 2, or my 3. They both worked flawlessly from the start. I am in no way saying anybody who had problems is lying, but I got my 3 and was, and still am, quite happy with the performance. MY ipad 3 runs at least as smoothly as my 2.
Maybe you can try to explain what you mean by "but it did not run as smooth as the iPad 2, that's a fact" Because my experience was completely the opposite.

the iPad 3 was flawed not because of the screen defects, or the heating defects, or the wifi defects. the iPad 3's design flaw was the A5X. the A5X chip was not sufficient to handle the Retina screen while using a graphics intensive app with complex rendering. this includes games like Metal Storm where hiccups are too frequent, motion stutters, and overall game play is significantly less fluid than on the iPad 2. that Retina display truly is a beast and required something more substantial than what the A5X could offer. for those that said "well it needs to power the Retina so no wonder it has trouble" , my response to that was then Apple should have never released it if it couldn't guarantee the same level of performance on the iPad 2 as it could on the iPad 3 with the Retina. putting the Retina on the iPad 3 truly was a feat of computer engineering by definition, and Apple should receive immense credit for that accomplishment. however, with that said it doesn't mean that we should accept a decrease in processing performance from the iPad 2. for routine tasks such as web browsing, light gaming, emails, and IM'ing the A5X was fine but once you deviate from that that is where trouble begins.

the iPad 4 with the A6X is what the iPad 3 should have been...but Apple needed a new iPad as soon as possible as customers and critics started to blast the iPad 2's screen due to increasing competition from Samsung, Acer, Asus, etc.. the iPad 3 with A5X is what they released to the public and while on the surface it was great, running the product through its paces made its deficiencies blatantly obvious to many of its owners (and many many forum members here). history speaks for itself...just go browse the iPad forums from April of this year.

this is all besides the fact of the quality control issues in the beginning which have for the most part been straightened out by now.

now that i have finished my post and finished backing up my iPad 3 that i purchased on October 3, i am heading to the local Apple Store to exchange it for a store credit to pre-order the iPad 4. since i fall within the unofficial 30 day return period i am taking full advantage of the free upgrade. the A6X will be a godsend to the Retina.

good riddance to the A5X

I am also owner of iPad 3 4g but I am not upgrading.
I agree with above poster saying it was more of iPad 2s than 3.

I honestly dont see any reason for 4.
Its more of burning dollars than anything.

5 will be major upgrade with IGZO panels and less bulky iPad.

I will get that and I may get mini after initial lot is sold off and supply settles.

The iPad 3 is not flawed. I still own it and will skip the next few upgrades. I have had no issues with it including playing games.
