Performance is fine on my iPad 3. The screen alone beats the living heck out of the iPad 2.

After buying and returning 4 ipad3s that had crappy screens, I'm glad to see it discontinued. Certainly wasn't their finest product and Apple probably knew it.

Yeah crappy screens made by Samsung. We'll see if this improves in the New iPads.

Try being an Australian who purchased the iPad 3 on the basis that it was a 4G model - only to find out after purchase & a court case against Apple that they had lied to us & it didn't work on our 4G network. I'd already sold my iPad 1 so got stranded with it. Now to find out 7 months later they are really going to sell a 4G model in Australia that works on our 4G networks (provided they haven't lied to us again) - I am furious! That's why the iPad 3 was flawed

Apple fanboy butt hurt over the truth that apple release a flawed product

Flawed is a very subjective term, given that technology is constantly improving. I believe that Apple simply used the best resources they could at the time.

The question is, knowing these inherent limitations, should they have released their ipad3 in March, or held out for a few more months for the completion of the A6x and improved 4G radios? After all, isn't Apple all about the user experience?

For ***** and giggles I watched the March keynote on iTunes.

Phil Schiller: "The new iPad uses the Apple designed A5X. This has Quad Core graphics, it's a graphics powerhouse".

I hardly think it was "discontinued".. it was updated with a faster processor/internals, like laptops/desktops.

The iPad 2 is not discontinued and is still being manufactured and sold.

The iPad 3 is discontinued and is no longer being manufactured nor sold. It is replaced by the iPad 4.

Yeah but the iPad 4 has the same screen so this won't be fixed, that's if there was anything to fix in the first place. With the amount of panels that are made, its inevitable that there will be some with screen issues.

If only "some" had issues, I should not have received 4 of them with problems from different sources at different times. I ended up buying two new iPad 2s and they both have great screens out of the box. IMO, something is wrong with retina technology that causes multi-tint and uneven backlighting.

good riddance to the A5X

Amen.

Apple no longer offers the iPad 3 for purchase. Hence it was discontinued.

Exactly.

Yeah crappy screens made by Samsung. We'll see if this improves in the New iPads.

I certainly hope so.

Bottom line is that the iPad 3, with it's screen problems, long charging times, noticeably warmer operating temps, and wi-fi issues was a rushed product and Apple has been quick to replace it.

"How the hell we were to know that Apple was abolishing the iPad 3 only after 6-7 months?"

You may remember that back in JANUARY of this year, WELL BEFORE "the new iPad" (iPad 3rd gen) came out, there was a rumor from the supply chain that Apple would introduce TWO iPads in 2012: one in March as usual, AND a fourth generation model IN THE FALL! Remember that? Everybody laughed and dismissed it quickly as ridiculous, BUT THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAS NOW HAPPENED!

I remember this rumour

I don't remember reading that but if that's true then shame on me for sleeping in class while the teacher was teaching.

they discontinued the damn thing while you can still buy iPad 2, what more needs to be said?

1/10
Try trolling harder next time, OP.

Never had a single issue with my 3rd gen.

I wouldn't call him a troll. I do get some weird pauses on my iPad 3, like when i tap on the screen while a video is playing to bring up the controls. It's not a big deal but a thing that does bug me and something my iPad 1 and 2 did not have.

The A5X also does change the pattern set from iPad 1 to 2. The iPad 3 should have had the A6 from the start, unknown and unfortunately for us the iPad 3 was a stop gap product. The 4 is what the 3 should have been.

I remember that, turned out to be true when everyone thought it was the most BS apple rumor ever

Yeah, I was stunned to see them reveal the iPad 4. The whole time he was describing it I was expecting him to drop the bombshell that he was talking about the iPad mini. But, unlike many around here, I don't feel the least bit screwed over. I'm totally fine with it. The mini is what I've been waiting for, even if it didn't get the features I was hoping for.

x2...I don't give a damn about the lightning connector and never had the ipad3 stutter due to slow processing...I'm fine with the 3 and will not get the 4...I will get the mini as it reduces my travel footprint...

I like the mini but I feel they're going to add retina to it next year so I'm waiting on that and the fact it uses an a5 chip is a letdown

I also think the ipad 3 was a RUSHED product not FLAWED ....

I feel like the 4th generation iPad is the rushed product, not the 3rd. Why would Apple release an updated iPad without a new backside camera or refreshed design?

I think they pushed the 4th generation up to go head-to-head with Surface and Android tablets that will be available this holiday season.

It's also odd they've basically cleared their product schedule for at least the first half of next year. It makes you wonder what's coming and why do they need that much marketing quiet time (Apple TV?).

Indeed, what could they have up their sleeves?

It isnt so much that the iPad "3" was flawed, it is that it was created for one single purpose. To get a retina tablet out there as soon as possible.......

Same thing applies to the 2012 MacBook Pro Retina. All the early adopters are in denial that the GPUs are under powered. However, they will be the first to admit the "flaw" (sometimes in public forums; mostly to themselves) as justification to purchase the 2013 model.

Apple certainly has a history of releasing half-baked products. They count on their loyal fanboys to buy them in droves and come back a few months later and buy the full-baked version.

The OP is right. The iPad 3 was a half-baked device, that is why I didn't buy it:

- 45nm lithography
- American LTE

And no 128GB option, that's why I'm not getting the iPad 4 either.

Because the it is fixing the flaws of the rushed iPad 3.

Just buy what the hell u want man people keep creating these threads to justify buying a new iPad get what u want and move on

Yes- I agree.
The 4 feels like a quick stop gap before the real lighter/thinner upgrade.
Once the v5 is released- resale value of v3 and v4 will be very close.

When the ipad 3 or new ipad (what ever the name is) everybody was blown away. Now is a piece of junk or a flaw... I don't understand. When the iPad 5 comes along... the 4 will also be a piece of junk or a flaw.
