1) A better way to enter password. We do not want the key enlargement for password ( which it does now ) but without it it is going to be even more difficult to get password entered correctly the first time. I do not know what the solution is, but it is a problem.

2) If you enter the password wrong to the email client, you can not correct it and resubmit. This is just a bug they need to fix.

3) This I am not sure if we need support on the iPhone itself: A peer to peer Chess or Checkers program will be nice. ( it can be served through a server ). And a chat session so we can pass snide remarks about my buddy's foolish moves or talk trash.

1. cut and paste
2. change tones for various messages/sms
3. notes sync
4. ability to email a picture as an attachment, as opposed to finding the picture then emailing.
5. ability to load in own pdf/doc files for reading on the go. emailing to myself is a workaround for now...but need a better implementation

6. A secure place to keep my important account numbers, pins, passwords. I think this the most lacking thing for me. Someone mentioned eWallet found on pocketpc which is a very good program. anything similar to that is DEFINETLY needed ..

Since no one has appeared to mention it, the ability to playback sound attachments in the mail app. You can play wavs and mp3s on web pages why can't the mail program play a wav attachment?

I'll also throw in for the landscape keyboard available to all input modes :)

Editing Contact

I have not seen this one yet in the thread. This seems like it should be a no brainer but currently you can't edit contact info when you are using the phone.

Thanks for the Thread :)

• iChat, iChat, iChat. I really find it hard to believe that this is not here.
• SPam filtering that matches your setting from mail and/or outlook
• all the file browser and attachment point others have mentioned
• make my own playlists and name them in iPod
• manually manage songs. this REALLY needs to be here for me. I have never used the automatic syncing functions on my iPods except for my workout nano.
• there should be a way to cache maps in google for places that you frequently search. not the point locations and search info, just the map graphics. this would GREATLY improved perceived speed when using the EDGE network or even wi-fi. It almost seems a no brainer for a mobile application.
• Color coordinated calendar appointments just like iCal. There could even be tiny colored dots on each day on the month view.
• REALLY have to offer the basic bluetooth and sms amenities such as: sending contacts, photos, etc. I also think apple needs to work with all the auto manufacturers they have been to get the bluetooth phone connections working right. My friend says there are tons of glitches with his acura.
• custom ringtones of course (which I'm sure are coming)
• i really don't see JAVA as a necessity, but flash REALLY needs to be there, even it it runs slow. maybe a warning when you run a page that you can kill flash ads or something and it defaults to the alt image. but i really want to be able to view my flash pages.
• get the web 2.0 devs so that they can use the flick and mouse events. this is imperative if you really don't intend to offer an SDK. Also, work with adobe to get a flash lite template going for devs to use so that our apps can be more interesting. Allow the browser bar to go away when visiting a web app so that it really feels like an app and add an interface in the bookmarks that FEELs like a little icon desktop for these "apps" instead of feeling like I'm putting in a url everytime. it just adds to the user experience.
• text highlighting and copy and paste need to happen.
• make the iPhone and google maps compatible with bluetooth gps receivers. also possibly come out with a tiny unit ala the nike plus dongle that attaches and offer the option. I don't HAVE to have it built into the phone but as awesome as google maps is, it would be great to have the option when i hit the road. doesn't seem to much to ask if you aren't building it in at the moment.
• more later I'm sure as I use the phone.

Now, despite all it's flaws in this first generation, I have to say this is STILL the best phone I have EVER used. It is simply brilliant and the interface is just fracking stunning. completely responsive and fast. It's AGONY to go back and do things on my e62 or razr or 8125 after only one single day of using my iPhone.

Good job apple, and please please please, look out for us first adopters and give us some good updates rather than screwing us ala iPod and announcing a new version in four months that forces an upgrade to enjoy even the tiniest improvements. With the contracts and recurring costs as well as the large sum of initial purchase, it will be harder to force an upgrade path with the iPhone, so you HAVE to make your existing and loyal customers happy this time around.

It would be nice to be able to set a default zoom level for Safari. I think I would prefer to be zoomed in and not seeing the whole page rather than be zoomed all the way out and not being able to read what anything says.

i.e. every time i go to a web page, the first thing I have to do is zoom in so I can read stuff. I'd rather be zoomed in to begin with and then just flick around the page to find what I want.

July 2 Update

just a heads up in case nobody noticed, when you activate or sync the iphone on itunes it states that software is up to date and it will search again on JULY 2THIS TELLS ME THAT TOMORROW A LOT OF ANSWERS AND FIXES WILL FALL INTO PLACE, just my thoughts:) :) :)

Some great suggestions here.

Some others (apologies if they've already been mentioned, it's a long thread. :) )

- For WEP keys and the like, a specific hex keyboard with only 0-9,A-F keys.

- Selectable settings profiles, that can be configured to turn on at specific times. (For example, ones I'd use are Night at 10pm, Work at 8am, Normal at 5pm, Loud and Silent on demand, etc. etc.)

- Animated weather radar.

Docked iPhone Feature

When docked, I'd like my iPhone to use the computer's audio output (built-in or desktop speakers) to recognize incoming calls, alarms or text messages.

I think it would be super helpful for people wanting to hear their phone but not in the room. Using the phone as an alarm clock (as I've done with my last 4 phones), the tone needs to be much louder or I need to have a second dock nearer to my bed.

I think the only roundabout for this is to have my speakers plugged into my iPhone, which would be great unless I want to play music on my computer.

Need to be able to make a new email, then BROWSE for as many photos as you want to attach to it. The current setup is insanely stupid from a usability POV.

Needs BCC: field in Mail.

Needs better ringtones. Too many 'cutsy' ones. I want a selection of ones that are modern, clear, and similar to business desk phones.

The GMail setup needs to automatically use recent:username@gmail.com for login, see the Google help for receiving mail on multiple clients for explanation.

MUST MUST have voice tags. My bluetooth kit for my car requires that the phone support voice tags. My Motorola v551 does this just fine.

Apparently, contact pictures set in Address Book don't sync to the phone? I mean, seriously, WTF? That should be a bi-directional sync.

Needs to respect the colours of individual calendars from iCal.

Similarly, iCal ToDo's should be supported bi-directionally for create/delete/edit/mark/unmark

Ability to view SMS without the stupid bubbles (like 'Show Names' in iChat)

Video output, unless it's a hardware limitation...

Ability to get rid of the yellow notepad background for 'Notes' Just plain text on a plain white background will be fine, thanks.

Already been said, but... Scientific Calculator. Note to Apple: the calculator dashboard widget is useless crap, Calculator.app is great. Pick the 'great' app to port to the iPhone, not the 'crap' one.

Bluetooth file exchange (works fine on my old Motorola, no reason not to be able to bluetooth a file to any other device on-the-fly)

Ummm, no... After checking for updates it will check again for updates after X number of days. The actual date is meaningless. After checking then, it will again check after X number of days, ad nauseaum.....

Make the sound LOUDER

oddly, the sound level in youtube and ipod is great, but the speaker phone anemic.

I will also +1 on the add features to Mail (mass delete, cut/paste, download a link into a folder, etc).. And I would love to see a bit more muscle behind the Safari browser too..

1) User-settable Alert times in the calendar app, I hate the pre-defined 5,15,30, etc alert times.

2) NAG on alerts.

3) Week view in Calendar app, or only set the list view to show the next 7 days, not your entire freaking list.

4) Icons could be cool in the Calendar app as well, or at least have categories (defined by colors).

5) Safari could be a little more responsive while loading a page as well.

6) More precise way of fast-forwading or rewinding in a song.

7) Double space adds a period.

8) Have the Weather Widget icon update the weather similar to how the date and mail/phone icons update.

9) LANDSCAPE in ANY app.

Lots of great suggestions here.

Here's one that may not be addressed for some time (until users realize the iphone UI is actually perfect for this!)

I don't know how many of you out there are manga readers (japanese comics), but the screen and interface of the iphone lends it self to be a marvelous reading device, because of its straightforward and simple zoom and scroll features.

The problem is, most manga, (or any scanned comics), are image files - jpg, png, etc. - and like with ipod, itunes scales down and converts images into .ithmb format, a smaller, space saving format for pictures. Unlike with ipods though, the iphone has the potential to zoom in and manipulate images in such a way that a higher resolution file would work better... (if you zoom into an image with iphone, it gets grainy and if theres text in the file it becomes hard to read!) I just don't think that apple foresaw this possible use for their picture viewer.

Anyway, I would like to see either: the ability to create and save LARGER .ithmb files to iphone, or the ability to directly save jpgs and other image formats for viewing. (OR - even the ability to upload pdfs through itunes, since images can be batch converted to pdf quite easily)

Sorry for the long post, but yea, I think there are lots of possible solutions to this one. ;)

FM Radio

So I can listen to NPR in the coffee shop without having to carry another device or attachment.

Great list. Some shocking omissions it seems to me (as a Treo/Verizon user).

Some, i'd go INSANE daily without - like the contact one. I type the first letter all the time to do a search for the person.....

Spam!

I'm surprised I've only seen this twice on the thread, but:

- Delete multiple/all emails at once!
and/or
- Junk mail filtering! I receive 500+ spams/day and have to delete them one at a time. Not very productive use of my time.

Other than that, I'm blown away by this thing. Remember, it's version 1.
