Then i phone will cost you $5000

My BIGGEST issue with my iPhone 3G is it's ability to reestablish a signal. I work in a metal building and unsurprisingly I have no signal. When I go outside, however, I expect the phone to rediscover the signal but it often won't. Sometimes it will get stuck on "Searching" and sometimes it will just say "No Signal" and won't be able to reestablish. Going into the settings and cycling the Airplane Mode option is often enough to get the phone to resync but even then it doesn't always work and I'll have to completely reboot the phone. Frustrating.

I have this exact same issue. But it has only really started happening lately. I am hoping 3.0 brings some nice firmware updates. But don't get me wrong. Love the iPhone :)

I'm sure that this has already been mentioned, but I wanted to repeat it. Apple needs to add better privacy for text messages. As of right now you can turn of the text message preview, but the phone still displays who the message is from. That doenst make any sense to me. I dont want people to be able to glance at my phone and see who I am receiving messages from even if the message itself isnt displayed. And according to one of the screen shots of the 3.0, Apple doesnt seem to have any intention in fixing this.

Well, if there's any weakness in the iPhone, one of them has to be notifications. ESPECIALLY with Push Notifications about to roll out with iPhone 3.0, this potentially will be a big problem. I really hope that Apple updates how notifications come to users in the near future.

Multi-touch capabilities in hardware buttons

There are essentially 5 hardware buttons on the iPhone (volume up/down, power, ringer and home).

How about giving us a combo of those to run the iPod app? Would love to hit both volume buttons at the same time to play/pause. Or hold the volume down button and then tap volume up to advance forward on a song.

When I travel I usually bring my iPod shuffle because I much prefer the tactile buttons.

There should be a way to disable cover flow. I can't stand it. It gets annoying when I pull it out of my pocket and I have to go back to what is now playing. I guess I just don't like it.

If they made the phone vibrate or make a sound as in the Mail app does if you receive a message while doing something on the phone that'd be wonderful. Probably the best way to implement the idea too...

HAHA do you want cancer with that?

OK, we've spent the dough, activated our phones, and played with the darn things for a few hours. I think most will agree that, while the iPhone is an awesome product, it is very much "Version 1.0" in many respects. As early adopters/beta testers, we need to let Apple know what's going on with their groundbreaking product in the REAL world.

Clearly list the features, upgrades, and fixes that Apple needs to get onto our iPhones through subsequent updates. Again, stick to issues that can reasonably be expected to be resolved via SOFTWARE. Let's also keep the trolling, arguments, and damage control to a minimum here.

I'll go first:

The Mail application needs to be revamped. It desperately needs a "Mark all as read/unread" button. There needs to be a way to consolidate all of the inboxes a la every other email client ever. GMail service should match Yahoo service -- i.e. realtime sync with the web.

Magnification glass sometimes goes halfway offscreen and is impossible to read. Self-explanatory; make this so that the viewing area never get cropped at the edges of the screen.

Addendum (Thanks tkjazzer and iansilv):

It is important to ensure that we have an audience at Apple. Please send your feedback directly to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

When submitting your feedback, please make sure to copy and paste into the form a link to this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/322785/

Two features I think are manditory that I don't think have been listed:

1. The ability to cancel a text while it is sending so in case I am trying to curse someone out I can cancel the message before calling them a 'ducking ass'.

2. Hiding apps that I don't normally use such as 'Stocks' and 'Weather'.

Or you could use the headphones that it came with and squeeze the little button once to pause, twice to go to the next song, and 3 times to go back a song. And by holding down the volume, it makes the volume continually go down (not to mention it would take two hands to hold down the volume down and then tap the volume up...), so I'm not sure what you'd want to be done instead. Having to push the volume button 15 times to go from full volume to the lowest setting? If anything, it's just as easy to double click the home button to open up the iPod window and change w/e you want that way.

Most of these are already in here like the double tap for period and space,

landscape keyboard in 3.0 thatll be here.

It is like a ipod wen you turn on and its charging there is a charging icon instead of your wallpaper and it also has the pluggin thing on the battery.

@lilmitchmitch

Not at all...Palming it with the right hand allows the middle and index finger to hit vol down/up respectively. Both are independent buttons so they can be programmed separately. You could then run "multi-combo" functions like a dictaphone. The whole point is to have tactile buttons and not have to look at the device to peform basic functions.

Also, I typically use noise cancelling headphones when traveling.

Yeah, I thought about the headphones and how many people use different headphones that might not have the nice little button. And I am left handed, so I prefer to hold my phone in my left hand and it's a little more difficult to hold down the volume down button with the middle of your thumb and then press the volume up with the tip of your thumb. So that was my problem, but you are right, it isn't hard when holding it in your right hand.

Wifi and other settings preset

- I'm pretty sure I haven't seen this requirement anywhere else but I would like to be able to preset my wifi settings. It's kind of a pain to be able to setup a network connection only when I am in range. Converting from my Palm / Internet Tablet to iPhone I already know of about 20 nets that at some point I'll want to connect to but I cannot preload the password / SSID, etc. until I actually get there.
Closest I've found is the request for wifi profiles.

- I guess the same is true for setting up e-mail accounts. If the iPhone cannot connect to it, it won't save it as an account. This is a problem when I tediously enter all of the account data (e-mail address, acct name, ID, password, incoming / outgoing servers, etc. etc.) and it doesn't connect. So I have to jump into the PW safe app to refresh my memory as to what the *exactly* the PW really is. I come back to mail settings and start all over. :(

Sorry if this is a repeat,
Frank

My husband and I have just got iPhone 3G's (in UK though) and the only things I really want at the moment is

To be able to customise my ringtones without using a 3rd party website or having to write down instructions from websites. I just want to be ablet o drag and drop in my iTunes to my ringtones folder :(

The ability to add the Flash player plg in. I don't know much abotu software but Adobe's website says it is compatible with Safari which is what is on my iPhone but then says Safari doesn't support it :(

Would also like to see an option to have a larger keypad or a stylus with it for my hubby's chunky fingers hehe

Take wireless syncing to the next level, so that possibly in the future apple an eliminate the USB sync cable, then you can charge the iPhone with the headphone jack or Apple should start integrating USB Mini "B" cables for charging.

Why not add a refrigerator ^^

I think iMovie mobile is a good idea. I know there's something like that in 3.0 already (of course, its much more basic than iMovie), but I think rebranding the photos app as "iPhoto mobile" and introducing "iMovie mobile" would be a great idea.

Cpu + Gpu

Real virtual memory
More memory
Faster CPU

The above will go a LONG way. App development is hindered by these current limitations. Try running any app in simulator and you'll see what I mean.
