People would whine because their iPhones can't cook them breakfast, they always find something to whine about

People are going to find something wrong with a device all the time. The problem with the iPhone however is that there are some key things that are seriously head scratching on why they weren't in the phone to begin with:

Copy and Paste
Stereo Bluetooth Support
Notes and To-Do Synching
Some sort of Contact transfer support.

I thought I posted this, but I guess not :)

I would love to be able to reply to a text from any APP! I find it frustrating that I have to close an APP to reply to someone only to go back to the APP! It would be nice if you could click reply when someone sends you a text and a text field comes up. I think this would be extremely convenient and would allow me to surf online without having to close the window!

I personally would like camera options, more prefs in Safari, and Bluetooth data transfer. There's many other things I might be able to think of but those are the three I would like most.

My top requests/nitpicks:

- Download portions of Maps for offline viewing.

- Edit addresses in the auto-complete address drop-down in Safari, too many times I have made a spelling error, like www.applr.com and that gets saved in the auto-complete system, would be nice if I could just choose that and correct it instead of typing the entire address out again.

- A "Cancel" button when composing a new SMS.

- If you touch near the bottom of the screen, the currently active page goes to the bottom, like what happens if you touch near the top of the screen. Would be a lifesaver for long documents!

- Complete My Album for iTunes Store mobile

4 cool suggestions

My six main wants that would make me say Cool :

1.
Allow a standard 3.5mm phone jack for sound, and not the current design that only allows an 'iphone approved' plug.

2.
Better waterproofing. I mean if cameras can get robust, then why not the iPhone?

3.
Sorry, but 256kbps is not good enough. It's good but some people like me want more, so 3 wants here:

(A) iTunes to offer 320kbps sampling (or more) and the ability of the iPhone to play it.

(B) I want FLAC option built in. Again an option to download it from iTunes

(C) or Apple develop or release something even better than .wav quality. Now that would be something to celebrate.

4.
TomTom or another navigation system.

5.
A DVD or web address (like utube) that has OFFICIAL guides to using the iPhone. Maybe organised like 3 books with chapters. (beginners, Intermediate and advanced).
Links also (with no responsibility/disclaimers etc) to suggested utube or other 'good' sites offering advice.

6.
A 'Help me I'm worried' link-.
Some sort of simple communication back to Apple (or someone) to get questions resolved. Might help with current and future problems ranging from crashing/viruses/hacking/etc...

A for Andromeda

Round and round: what about jailbreak?

People are going to find something wrong with a device all the time. The problem with the iPhone however is that there are some key things that are seriously head scratching on why they weren't in the phone to begin with:

Dear All

I am just two weeks fresh to iPhone.
I read the first pages of this thread, dated back to springtime 2007. It seems to me that in January 2009 main issues didn't change.
While I am still on the way to investigate about jailbreaking, I am surprised that this word never appears in this thread.
As far as I can understand at present, jailbreaking can solve some of these issues.

What do you say about that?

Thank you

Walter

Text/Calls

Oh yes... PLEASE - how many characters have I used in my SMS message so I know how much it will cost? Please! Please! Please!

I'd love to see some kind of counter for SMS characters. I religiously go at least £20 over my monthly tariff.

Don't even get me started on data roaming costs!

Fix the Italian Dictionary

When I type an sms in Italian, I change to the Italian dictionary and it corrects most of my typos. However, about 2-3 times per sentence, it tries to insert a Spanish word or simply some mis-spelling of its own. Can't they get the Italian dictionary to have only Italian words in it?

some things for the enterprise:
- add contact from MS Exchange GAL to contacts on the phone
- invitations in MS Exchange calendar / MobileMe Cal
- DON'T DELETE THE CALENDARs on the phone when PUSH/FETCH is switched OFF
- sync to iCal via iTunes when PUSH/FETCH on the Phone is switched OFF
- choice which calendars are synced over the air
- direct button (or favorite) to turn Plane Mode ON

...otherwise it's a great device...

..that's it so far....

Advanced Calling Features

It would be nice if Apple would add an additional row (expanding the 6 in-call options to 9 or allowing multiple pages of options like home screen) of advanced call management features ('Advanced call features' could be a toggle switch in options, so basic users don't have to use them):

Transfer: Contacts list would appear and simply tapping a number would transfer the call. Voicemail would be the first contact in the contacts list.

Record: A pop-up would appear warning users about the legal implications of recording. The user could choose to record or not record. Calls would be recorded to the phone. Playback would be initiated through a Calls category (like playlists, genres, etc.) in iPod. When synced back to iTunes, the calls would be appear under the iPhone in a Calls category (like music, videos, ringtones, etc.) Caller Name/Date/Time would be in the title of the file. The green bar would turn into a red bar while recording and the record option would change into "stop recording" while a call is being recorded. In recent calls, calls that were recorded would be identified with a red circle.

Change Voice: The user would choose from a list of voices to change to. The option would change to "stop changing" when in use.

Other things that would be cool:

-If the iMovie globe animation with a pin on the location of a caller would
appear when a new caller was calling.

-If the iPod song list would appear when "hold" was pressed, and tapping a song would play selected song while the call was on hold. "No music" would be the first 'song' in the iPod song list.

-If the contacts list emulated the iPod 'album' view (pictures on the left side) rather than the 'song' view (no pictures) as it does now.

Some network based services like the ability to create custom voicemail greetings or ringback tones based on caller, time, and day of the week would be nice.

Blue tooth headset

I just bought a new motorola and pairing works great but want to know if the iPhone can be set to automatically answer while I'm riding my scooter.

What I want to see in the next update to 2.2.1

Sluggishness and the buginess that would enevitably come with it :D

My wish list:

Fully enabled bluetooth.
-A2DP/AVRCP
-Bluetooth Tethering
-File Transfer
-Allow apps to utilise bluetooth
-Maybe create a pc/mac application which allows to manage contacts/send texts via your phone - im sure this is an area where apple could improve on existing offerings

Wifi Syncing
-Bluetooth is too slow

System Wide Instant Search
- A long shot but something similar to what is in the pre

Microsoft Exchange
-Task and Notes syncing

Wifi
-better 802.1x compatibility

1. I want to have the capability to save Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF files to its onboard memory (maybe set a limit like 100MB or 200MB), and open it, edit (free app or paid MobileFiles Pro is ok). Files could come in either as email attachment or directly uploaded to phone via USB (without having to use or work around wifi).

2. I also want to have the ability to access those files and attach them to my outgoing iphone emails, or download them to another PC. (it's like tapping craigsphone's job postings, takes you directly to email composition screen, be able attach your resume, compose a cover, and there you go, job application on the go). My ex-BlackBerry Curve and Storm can do these very easily. I actually applied a job by using craigslist.org's email link using entirely my BlackBerry while waiting for a friend at a bus stop. Of course I don't do it everyday, but makes you productive at time.

3. Adding an icon or menu to switch to another email account without having to press the "back" button just to get to the main email screen.

4. New design? Couldn't you at least make it smaller that it is now. I mean you can shorten the length, and make it more boxy, and add a "brushed metal" look. Why don't you make it similar to imacs.

Hello Apple, if you can do all 4, at least 1 and 2 for now, iPhone will be the smartest of all smartphones and smarter than the BlackBerry if you include no. 3.

This is a great thread - hope someone at Apple is watching.

- Ability to lock individual apps. All of my other phones (at least the Motorola ones) had the ability to lock certain apps like photos, messaging etc. on an individual basis as the user saw fit As I see it now, even if I have a passcode for the general "unlock", once I unlock the phone - say, to let a friend make a call - they now have the ability to see my mail, my photos, my texts, etc.

M

if apple is watching it would be nice to have an Iphone with the micro working new out the box

How do you remove your battery? Does your iPhone say "Treo" on it? ;)

And this thread may not be the best place to get your question answered.
