Had a play with the 5C today and have to say I can't imagine it selling. The plastic feels a bit more 'premium' than you would expect, but at the end of the day it's still plastic and feels cheap. There will be some people who will buy it simply because of the bright colours, but they will be in the minority. The pricing is completely wrong and the fact that the 5 is still for sale makes it even more mystifying.

Think its a bit unfair to say that there is no interest in the 5c.

If you are reading this site then the chances are you know more about tech than the average person. I would guess that close to 50% of iPhone users don't use all the features or even care that they are available.

Some people will buy 5c just because it looks different, or because they like the colour options.

If you are a long term iPhone owner then you might be starting to get a bit tired of the white or black glass handset and be ready for a change.

I have three numbers and a rolling iPhone upgrade plan. This year I have bought a 5s & a 5c were as last year I bought a black and a white iPhone 5.

The one feature that the 5c has over the 5, at least in Europe is the ability to use LTE/4G bands with many more networks.

Its never going to be the top of the range product but stranger things have happened and multi coloured iPhone might be a must have with people who are more interested in the look than the features of the handset.

If it was £369 rather than £469 I would probably get one tbh.. But for the extra £80 I might as well get the 5S.

The price point is too high.

But some of these comments are laughable. It's obviously not cheap. It doesn't feel cheap either. It looks great. Feels wonderful in hand - much more comfortable than the 5.

I also love the colours. Along with iOS7 it finally feels like the phone can be made a lot more personal and fun.

But I get how most on this forum don't like it and are all for the S. I just don't agree with the cheap comment that's being thrown around. Coz it feels FIIIIINE!

In no way is it a downgrade from a 4S. My Fiancee actually had the choice...I asked her if she wanted a 5S ( which I have ordered for myself ) but she wanted a 5C in pink....Delivers today. Better battery than the 4S and tweaked camera. I think there is plenty of interest in the new device. I am going from a 5 to the 5S in Champagne, but I think the 5C is a perfectly useable device.

It's plastic mate. And it costs $AU 800. It's rivals are not only cheaper, but are made of glass & aluminum and other 'premium' materials. It may be a good phone, but simply because of the plastic back, it lacks the quality feel of other phones.

Here we go again.

Like I've already told you - it feels much better than other competitors plastic phones. It is a quality built handset. And I can say that as I've held one.

So don't tell me that it lacks the quality feel. Because it doesn't, mate.

I've already said I think the price is too high, but lets not carry on with the cheap comments. It's far from it. It's Apple at the end of the day. They don't do poor materials, build or cheap parts.

Whats the point of paying 199 for the 5C when you could get the 5s for 299, most of the people owning iphone 4s,5 probably would not get plastic iphone :D

Not really, my brother ended up ordering a 5C as he wanted a green phone and didn't think the faster processor or aluminum case were worth the $100 more.

Of course, he was coming from a Galaxy S3, so this is the first time either of us has purchased an iPhone!

If no-one's interested as the OP dubiously claims and no-one of a technical bent is interested, how come there's a white one on my desk right now, along with my 30" monitor, Mac Pro, Macbook Air and iPhone 4?

Oh, that's right. The OP doesn't know what he's talking about. He oddly thinks that his opinions are the same as everyone else's and that he is some sort of oracle that speaks for the rest of humanity.

This board is full of arrogant know-it-alls who think they're special. They are not.

As far as plastic goes, it feels much better quality than say an S4 and it looks good, but when throw the crazy price in, it just doesn't make sense. You buy a $100k sports car, you expect leather, brushed aluminum etc etc not high end plastics. The 5C is a well made phone, but it's a $500 phone not an $800 phone.

He doesn't mean no-one does he.He means sales will not be as high as Apple would like. At the end of the day, anyone with a little bit of technical knowledge is going to be able to figure out that at only $100 less than a 5S, the 5C is a complete rip off, especially when you consider the additional features and functionality the 5S has. Plus the fact that it's made of more premium materials. They will obviously sell some 5C's but to schoolgirls and bored housewives, who care not for fingerprint scanners and two tone flashes. It's almost a given the price of the 5C will drop at some point in the next few months.

I actually thought about the five 5C and I'm a big phone geek. The reason being was because I can tell my 5 and just pay only $100 for a phone with a colour that I liked aesthetically. 5S's specs where too disappointing for me to pay hundreds of dollars on when I'm getting the 6 next year anyway. Couldn't bring myself to pay for the 5C because it's kind of pointless. I can find a bright green faceplate for $20 somewhere lol. I'll wait for the iPhone 6.

Not interested in the 5S,
Bought several of the 5C...
one in each color.
For me, the 5C is the superior device
via design and lack of print sensor.

I preordered a 5C, but I don't know many others here among my friend set that did. Yet several are searching for new 5S models today.

I wanted a new phone as quickly as possible and was intrigued by the 5C. We'll see how it feels today versus the rest of my Apple gear. However, at the end of the day, iPhones are not that expensive in the US for those on contract, so there is not really a "need" for a 5C here. It will be popular with impulse buyers, will be competitive with other $99 Android phones, etc, but I am not certain it will be a huge growth driver as long as the 5S is in good supply.

Carrier subsidies definitely make the 5s more palatable.

But yeah, worldwide the 5c is going to sell like crazy. It WILL outsell the 5s.

As long as orders go on, it is evident that people are not interested in 5c.... 5s gold option completely out of stock in less than 20 minutes! even 64 gb option by at&t is going out... what do you think?

People who buy the 5c aren't the same people who are buying the 5s on opening day. They will be people who go into the phone store when their contract runs out and want a cheap iPhone. I would not be surprised if the 5s outsells the 5c when it is all said and done.

It's polycarbonate on a steel frame, not a cheap plastic throwaway phone.

You actually bought that story? Other manufacturers use the same process. What Apple is doing is not unique. You don't think cheap Android phones use a steel frame? It's just because it is Apple, they can make you think their process is somehow unique and better.

That pretty much sums it up, I think. The 5c will sell to kids and women who don't understand or care about specs, whereas a bunch of geeks and men who "need" the very best will buy the 5s.

Same thing happened when the iPod Mini came along, even down to the ugly colors. Many people thought it was crazy and nobody would be interested. Sold better than the Classic ever did, which clearly had the better specs and value (to a technologically inclined person). Some people value things like colors more than tech geeks do, and value specs less.

That's kind of a rude judgment. I am a woman and I know everything about the specs. I love the 5c, yeah for the color, but I also just like the plastic. My 5 was always a fast enough phone for me, the camera was always perfect, and it performed really well. Yeah it might have been silly to upgrade to a similar model, but I just REALLY love the plastic. The 3GS was my favorite iPhone of all time. I loved the feel of it in my hand.
