I played with a blue 5c in Fry's yesterday. It felt like a slab of polished granite. Much, much thinner than I was expecting, too. And the blue looked stunning (not what I was expecting). Can't comment on the other colors as Fry's only had the blue one out on display.

A lot of people are going to be very happy with a 5c. I would be.

I was one who hated the idea of a plastic phone (and I still think I prefer the aluminum and glass premium look) but these look and feel great. Much better than some of the plastic phones/tablets you see at Best Buy.

Bottom line is. Apple has suffered a biggest shift in its vision, than I thought.

Job's Apple: We will give you the best product in the world. We will innovate like no other company in the globe, but we will charge you accordingly and a bit more to keep on funding innovation.

Cook's Apple: We will try by all means to reduce our manufacturing costs. But we will still sell you expensive, because you know what? We don't sell cheap stuff. Innovation?? The market is all about iteration.

The iPhone 5C is Apple's first product in a DECADE or more, that brings absolutely nothing new to the table. Absolutely nothing!!!!

I think the change was more along the lines:

Job's Apple: we will give you the best product in the world. It will often be the most expensive, but that's the price you have to pay for quality.

Cook's Apple: we will give you the most expensive product in the world. It won't always be the best, but that's the price you have to pay for being easily deceived.

I think the iPhone 5C is sligthly dihonest, in that it's something cheaper for Apple to make than the iPhone 5, yet it's being sold at the same price and with the same specs, when people would expect the release of the new and more powerful iPhone. I wonder how many of the casual buyers are just assuming the 5C is the newer (and thus faster and improved) iPhone, thus allowing Apple to increase its profit margins by preying on customers' ignorance.

If the 5C becomes a huge, massive success... I would worry. That would tell Apple that they don't need to innovate to make phones that sell, so why would they bother trying?

Stop talking rubish! Did you see it in person? Let me answer it for you: NO

You're welcome!

And now turn to you Galaxy S whatever.

Except that Teste has some very valid points. The 5C is dishonest in that it's glorified and marketed as something new (distillation etc etc Ive), when really, it's just that Apple didn't want the lower margins of selling the 5 for $100 less, and know that $100 doesn't warrant the difference between the 5 and 5S.

Those are the 2 reasons for the 5C, but Apple won't tell you that.

Seen yesterday on michigan avenue applestore. I simply don't like it. It feels like an ipod touch and the border of color around the black screen to me is awful, however I cannot understand the point is cheaper.... you sign a 2 year agreement for let's say, in my case, 80$ per month with at&t.
paying the device 100, everything stands for 2020 bucks. If I take 5s I will pay 2120.... for 5% difference how can you say it is more convenient? 5% savings for a 1 year old technology? No Thanks

People have been paying $100 less for one year old technology from Apple for years - why is this different?

I can understand not preferring the 5C... What I continue to not understand is why some folks here seem so offended that many like it.

No one will be confused as the more powerful iPhone is $100 more. Consumers are pretty savvy.

I agree with you in many ways, but in many I dont.

I have a 32gb black iphone 5. Yesterday I walked into an apple store to see what all the hype was about with the iphone 5c and 5s.

In my opinion (I'm not an apple fanboy, read my last thread) I actually like the 5c. I think it feels nothing like the galaxy s4, and feels about as high quality as plastic gets.

What I dont like about it is tat it's the same wieght as the iphone 4s. It just feels heavy in my hands. I went from the 4s to the 5 to get a lighter and thinner phone, now apple has done away with that, and it upsets me that no one cares.

It upsets me just because it means the world is so full of ignorant people. They dont care as long as theyre getting the latest apple product.

The other good part about it is the colors though, I wish they had offered the 5 in colors.

But as for people interested in it, I think people are. People like colors, its also cheaper, and no one understands the 5s features anyways.

The thing with the 5s is that its literally a 5, with a semi-useless fingerprint scanner. Now people will go and say "64 bit" better camera. Do people even know what 64 bit means? And whens the last time you thought your iphone 5 pictures were so bad and needed a 15% larger aperture? apple should have completely redone their camera, but they didn't. Its all about that 1% higher profit margin.

Why are you so upset? Tons of people buy a year old phone everyday, this is the same idea except the 5C looks new and different and ever so slightly improved. That's even more reason to do so. But in the end this comes down to... Who cares what someone's preference is?

Couldn't agree more! Releasing the beautiful C which is just a slight bit better than the 5 is deceptive of Apple. But releasing virtually the same phone with just one new major feature is somehow not deception. Give me a break. Apple does the same thing every year, why are you so bothered now with the C?

I think dudes are just upset they lose talking points in their online flame wars with Android fans. Now Apple does make $99 plastic phones - good thing they are the best of their kind on the market by any measure

Honestly I don't care what Apple will tell me or not. I have something called a brain so I can eventually decide for myself. If the slight difference of $100 is nough of a discount in your opinion or not, nobody cares. Let people decide themselfes. People are different and may have different priorities and viewpoints, in case you didn't know.

May it be that you only are disappointed not getting a "chaep" phone?

Nobody cares either.
If you don't like it, just ignore it. Or do you lament on other devices of other manufactururs which you cannot afford or think are overpriced?

The market will confirm or reject the new strategy of Apple. It's not on you alone to judge it.

It is not a $99 plastic phone. It is a one year old $600 plastic phone, that is the problem.

I don't/wouldn't find a lack in 5C sales to be surprising.

If Apple just made the 5S and sold the 5 at a discount like they've done in the past would you expect record sales on the 5 after the 5S came out? I wouldn't.

It's all about money. Make last years phone cheaper and sell it at the price you would have sold last years phone and market it as new. They will make more money this way rather then doing it the old way. Maybe next year we will see the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5SC as the new phones lol.

Because plainly one year old technology would still be premium build, unlike the 5C, which is cheaper only for Apple.

While the 5S is a one year old $800 phone with a new unlock method. 5C sounds like a good deal to me while I wait on the 6.

Much gorgeous and sleek looking than I thought. Saw lot of international tourists / locals buying it yesterday at the Apple Stores in the malls of Orlando, FL. Looks like their first iPhones. Of course, it's the best looking and bang for the buck, most intuitive , super fast gadget made of plastics and steel, it's the king of smartphone makers who did it.

Nothing you said has anything to do with my point (well, Teste's).

All you're saying is that you don't care (but you're posting here, too), nobody else should care, etc. I really don't care. But Teste had a point about the 5C feeling dishonest, and I was explaining the marketing strategy behind the 5C.

If I had been waiting for the 5 to be $100 less, I would be disappointed that it's now made of uniquely colored plastic, is thicker, and heavier. But I wasn't.

My mother's on the fence about getting a 5C, but she doesn't care about phones, Apple, etc.
