Just get an Apple TV HD/4K, a raspberry pi, and setup HomeBridge.

Samsung TVs don’t support HomeKit (only the Apple TV app), but using HomeBridge I’m able to add it natively, as if it was supported.

Maybe this isn’t quite dead...

Heh. I'll quote myself...

Errr... You realize the phrase "no plans" means "I don't know for sure" or "we can't say yet"?

There is a very good chance that they won't bring this to 2018 LG TVs, but just the fact they sent a tweet saying "no plans" doesn't actually mean much.

Why do I say this? Cuz this is common corporate speak for unreleased products/updates, and to further drive home the point, LG also said they had "no plans" to bring the 48" CX OLED TV to Canada and then literally just a couple of weeks later there were 48" CX OLED TVs actually available in Canada from big mainstream vendors such as Best Buy.
It's moot for me though, since I have an Apple TV 4K connected to my 2018 LG C8 anyway.

I own a C7, the panel is incredible, but the software? Absolute trash. I don’t touch it and use my Apple TV. It’s so bad though, that trying to get to switch between inputs is a chore and it’s constantly turning on my PlayStation and other stuff when it shouldn’t be, something my cheap Visio before it had no issues with. Too bad my only other OLED option on the market is Sony - at double the price for similar picture quality performance.
That sounds like CEC is likely enabled on the LG’s HDMI input to which the Playstation is connected. It should stop if you go into the LG settings and disable HDMI CEC. It is designed as a “convenience feature” to power on a connected device when you select that HDMI inp, but not everyone wants that, so it is switchable.

Yes, s/he has not properly turned off CEC control, but to be fair, the LG settings are confusing in this regard. I'm not sure if the C7 is the same, but on my C8, if you turn off the HDMI-CEC setting completely, you lose HDMI-ARC audio.

What you need to do instead is turn on HDMI-CEC, which LG calls SIMPLINK, but then go into the HDMI-CEC sub-settings and specifically turn off HDMI device control, which LG calls Auto Power Sync. Then you go to the separate HDMI-ARC setting to make sure it's on. (Note that the HDMI-ARC setting is in the audio section, which is a completely different area of the settings.) Why LG does it this way I do not understand. It would make much more sense to me to just have separate HDMI-CEC and HDMI-ARC settings.

So:

HDMI-CEC / SIMPLINK: ON ---> Auto Power Sync: OFF
HDMI-ARC: ON

BTW, despite this unintuitive HDMI-ARC setting, overall I still prefer WebOS over AndroidTV. I have a Sony Android TV and I hate the OS. The OS is like running an Android phone not surprisingly, slower than it needs to be and more glitchy than a TV should ever be. In contrast, LG's TV OS is much more stable and responsive, and I even like the bean bird remote. I cannot comment on Samsung OS because I don't have a Samsung TV and therefore haven't played with the OS much besides what I've seen in the store.

I agree with both your points. The LG settings are indeed convoluted, and I quite like WebOS.

The E6 picture quality is great, and the 3D is actually very enjoyable and is actually a major feature for me (unlike everyone else, I guess) so I won’t be upgrading until this TV dies, which I hope will not be for a very long time since I cannot really replace it.

LG has been trying to work on HDMI 2.1 with the new Playstation 5 and the new xBox x they are trying to get g-sync and free sync working correctly. If you need a great computer monitor check out Samsung G7 32in. This display is fast fast! Has QLED pretty good black levels. Playing Doom Eternals will amaze you! Samsung is working on getting the g-sync working a little better, but I can tell you, you do not need it.

This display is so fast, I am running it with it off. I am going to get a PS5 when released for gaming. I still have my 2019 MacBook Pro 16 with bootcamp so I can do some windows gaming. But I am going to hook up the PS5 to the HDMI 2.0 port on the Samsung Display.

It will be like having the best of three worlds, Mac OS 11, Windows 10 with xbox pass and windows games and PS5 to play exclusive titles and watch 4k UltraHD movies.

Query: is 3D meant to be included in “everything important” or is it a separate thing outside of “everything important?”
Good question... it's neat, but I don't use it often, so I guess it's not important.
