Which model(s)? What kind of problems? There’s been multiple threads on this forum where members have had excellent experiences with LG over the years. That’s one person you’re referencing out of how many own LG phones.
Very recent study done by CBC suggests LG phones have the most problems.

They spent hundreds of millions on UI development on Android and developing useless apps and functions to keep up with Samsung. All of that UI development is unnecessary since Jelly Bean and has been counterintuitive to the user experience.
All of that is greed. They saw's Samsung's attempt at de-Googling Android and getting user's slowly used to the idea of Samsung and TouchWiz as a brand AND platform, and chased it ever since. Even Samsung backed a bit away by renaming their platform to One UI. When LG backed away from radically rethinking Android's UI, they still spent a ton of money developing a UI that sort of looked like stock but still was not.
What a waste.

This is sad if true. LG ships nice designs. I haven’t owned an LG phone since the early 2000s (I was a child) so I guess I’m part of the problem, haha.

Love my G7 and other LG phones I've had in the past. Main issue is that their lineup was never a clear "good-better-best" choice. Having the G and V series compete for flagship position was confusing. They should have reduced the number of models.

While I never had or been tempted to get an LG phone, I was always happy they were in the market (both for innovation ideas and competition). Losing $4.5 billion though over the last 23 quarters seems like it would give most any investor pause.

I wonder if, in the near future, the only legitimate smartphone choices left for American consumers will be Apple, Samsung, and Google? 🤔
It is curious that in the smartphone market there are just a few dominant players. You look at most other products and customers have not coalesced around just a few names. There are hundreds of different cars for sale, for example, and none seem to have the market dominance of Apple or Samsung. Toyota and VW have huge shares but that is because they sell so many different brands. Different regions of the country buy vastly different vehicles.

Huge flaw in your line of thinking. A company can't stay afloat with just one or a few products that they are "good at". People thought the iPhone was generating so much revenue that Apple didn't need to do much more in the tech industry since it was said by some that the iPhone carries the company, which isn't true. This is why Apple is now offering subscription services and innovating with the M1 chips. Amazon is "good at" internet sales and delivery of products, but they recognize they can't stay on top without offering Prime memberships and it's other streaming services.
No flaws in my thinking bubba! I think possibly yours may be flawed. Let us begin.

Do you live in a bubble? Because it appears you think I do. Your comparison/review of Apple is blindingly obvious. There are a ton of companies that make one product that they are "good at" and do just fine where they are. Another flaw I will mention is that what I said is more of a saying then an actual statement. But .... Since you caught me on an even numbered day.

let's analyze your thinking now. What if the services Apple created were a flop (similar to LG phones)? Would you keep pushing them or continue to lose money? Careful I'm shareholder. In LG's case over 4 billion dollars. I'd stick with what I'm "good at", meaning whatever products do make money and stop the bleeding by dumping the ones that don't. Pretty sound, at least in the short term.

Now let's repair the broken logic at hand. These questions will help you with reasoning and logic for future conversations.

I would buy your phones again, just allow for bootloader unlocks again so I can fix your ugly/slow Software. My V30S was great without LG's skin/kernel on the phone.

Maybe they should spend less time on inventing products like the LG Wing and instead focus on making their phones popular with customers again. A company that faces declining sales simply cannot afford to bring such a niche gimmicky product to market.
There are too many player in the smartphone business and almost all profits goes to Apple...it has been this way for 10 years. LG is good in engineering and manufacturing and has been a great brand for many home appliance products and I think they should focus this way instead of just trying to penetrate into different businesses to get less than 1% market share.

LG is considering exiting the smartphone business entirely amid declining shipments and accrued losses of $4.5 billion over the past five years (via The Korea Herald).

LG CEO Kwon Bong-Seok cautioned staff earlier today that the company is re-evaluating its presence in the smartphone industry:

He added that regardless of any change, the company will retain its current employees from the smartphone division and reassign them elsewhere.

LG has seen rapidly declining smartphone shipments in recent years, and the company is now believed to hold a market share of just two percent. LG has posted major financial shortfalls in its smartphone segment for 23 consecutive quarters, reaching a total loss of $4.5 billion.

When taking office as CEO in January 2020, Kwon pledged to turn the company's smartphone business around. The CEO's latest comments therefore appear to be an admission of failure to make the segment profitable.

At the same time, LG is reportedly ending its production of LCD displays for the iPhone, according to The Elec. LG Display had previously attempted to supply LCDs for the second-generation iPhone SE, but failed to meet Apple's requirements, leading to Japan Display and Sharp being selected as suppliers instead. LG's factory that previously made the components will be repurposed to manufacture automobile display panels.

Earlier this month, LG unveiled one of the world's first rollable smartphones at CES, as the company has endeavored to explore unusual designs to lure in customers. The future of this device, and other LG smartphones such as the LG Velvet and LG Wing, are now highly uncertain.

Not at all surprised, My LG V20 and Nexus 5X just lasted 1 year and 1.5 years and died of a boot loop issue. LG deserves it !!

Remember the LG G Flex 2? Self healing back and a curved screen that could flatten if sat on? It’s cool stuff like that they should have worked forward on. Let’s hope LG hones their sights from here on out and doesn’t give up.

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you've convinced yourself.

With these two posts alone it further helps to convince me that the brand name matters in terms of who gets a pass with an excuse and who gets trashed.

It was stated earlier from a member that a co-worker continued to buy LG phones knowing they had constant problems. Hmm. But Apple's butterfly keyboard apparently lost them some sales and although Apple has moved on from that after 4 years of product releases with this keyboard people here still trash the company. Even Samsung has been relinquished from the hatred on the internet for putting out products that caused fatal injuries...yes the exploding phones.

All products have varying degrees of problems. People decide if the pro(s) outweigh the con(s). For example, iPhone 12 Pro Max has frame dips/lag when playing Need for Speed No Limits. If someone doesn't game on their phone then they might opt to live with it for, say, the camera. On the other hand, keyboard is the primary MacBook input so it's understandable people would have zero tolerance for keyboard design defects. And, any lithium battery has potential to combust including iPhones.

Yikes, I bought a refrigerator from them this year. I usually buy GE, but this one looked nice.
And salesman and other people told me they are good. 😕

It’s true. LG appliances have known issues plaguing there lifespan, or they don’t nearly last as long and their parts are extremely expensive to have replaced if they’re outside the warranty/if you didn’t purchase an extended warranty. Don’t get me wrong, I think LG makes a really sharp looking refrigerator, [as I’ve looked into one], but some of the reviews are horrendous.

I got extended warranty... I was researching between Samsung and LG and a lot of people told me LG was better.
Ugh! And it was an expensive one too. It costed me as much as a new 27" iMac nicely configured.

LG G2 was a great device. Probably the best android at it's time.
I had a G3 and it was one of the best phones, and certainly the best Android phone, I have ever had. Sadly, when I switched carriers and had to update to the G4, that was a painful year that sent me right back to the iPhone ecosystem, and I haven't gone back since.

I don't use their phones, but its unfortunate nonetheless. Most Android phones have interesting hardware and some cool features but the OS sucks pretty bad. I've tried so many phones and they all end up being a chore to use with the exception of the Pixel line. I can tell you this, their TV's (OLEDS) kick major arse! Love my LG TV, thing is a beast with an absolutely beautiful picture. Maybe they should just stick with what they are good at.
Good screen panels are one thing, but their truly dreadful software will always handicap their TV's.

Now they can continue to make home appliances that break within 2 years.
They make excellent appliances. Highest rated in consumer reports and never seen for repair. I have been an appliance tech for 15 years. Though they did have an issue with linear compressors.
I normally enjoy lg products. Multiple lg phones have been excellent as well. Reading this on a lg.
