I hope that this meens LG will put even more focus on their oled tv line. The best tvs imo. I love my C8. I was so supriced for adding Airplay and Homekit support 2 years later.

I still have an LG TV that is working just fine after many a year in my home. So there's that. ;)

I am a bit surprised they'd leave before Sony. But really all seem to lag behind Apple and Samsung these days.

Who buys LG Phones? Sounds like a guy buying a Toshiba car. If you want to be a player in the market you have to create something different, not slap your name on a device and call it a day. It doesn't help you are running the horrid Android.

Nothing changed.

When people say "LG should stick to what they know" they might be forgetting that LG started out in the 50's. This isn't a brand new company and they didn't start by making TVs.

I've got a few LG appliances myself and they're rock solid.
I agree. I bought my first LG V20 around the time Apple first removed the headphone jack with the iPhone 7. Since then I've owned a V40 and a V50, all excellent phones with top notch DACs for use with high quality wired headphones. My wife still uses my 4 year old V20, which was the last phone I ever acquired that still had a removable battery (now on its 3rd battery, which run about $15 each). It will be sad for me if LG leaves.

Love my G7 and other LG phones I've had in the past. Main issue is that their lineup was never a clear "good-better-best" choice. Having the G and V series compete for flagship position was confusing. They should have reduced the number of models.
I've always gone for the V series, having owned a V20, V40, and a V50. They're all great phones, and I chose the V series primarily for its dedication to great sound through the headphone jack (top quality DAC and control software out of the box). I'll miss having the V series phones as options. As I've mentioned elsewhere, the V20 even had a replaceable battery. My wife is still using hers, now on its 3rd battery after four years.

The United States of America is not the only smartphone market on this planet. In fact there are several other larger ones.

The smartphone industry is very cutthroat and only a couple of companies turn any profit. Unsurprisingly Apple takes the lion's share of the industry profits because they focus their efforts at the high end. This is well known and Apple has behaved similarly in the PC, MP3 player, wearables, and other markets.

Total unit sales is not important to Apple. Dominating the premium market segment is.

LG like most smartphone manufacturers market a lot of entry-level handsets. Usually these are sold at a loss.

Even about five years ago only two smartphone companies were profitable (Apple, Samsung), a couple were barely breaking even and the rest were losing money from their smartphone businesses.

Same could be said about Google Pixel devices. I have never seen one besides on YouTube videos

A lot of people use Pixels. I avoided them while on Android only because I don't upgrade that often and several generations have known issues. They have excellent cameras though.
