I don’t have that much of a problem with current LED offerings. I know the spec differences but my 8’s LED screen is lovely. Are people really interested in off-axis viewing in an iPhone? (Cue the flames.) What really has me interested is microLED. Hopefully that will be coming, and Apple is stopgapping with OLED until microLED is ready for prime time.

Think OLED makes the iPhone too expensive.
Microled excites me but we are probably 3-5 years off, first Apple will test the water on the AppleWatch.

Odd that Apple would even want to contaminate their line-up a little with LG displays. They're not ready for prime-time. Thankfully, no need to get the X Plus as that phone size is pretty ridiculous (as are the current Plus models). iPhone X is pretty much the perfect size.

I hope they don’t repeat the same mistake they made with the 6 Plus were the device was barely capable to run the display and everything else on its given RAM.

I also wish it is going to be as wide as the Plus and not as narrow as the X and just longer

Would be cool to have 4,5" iPhone X in form of SE. X is just to expensive for my needs and new LCD 6,1" is just too big (almost same dimensions as Samsung Galaxy S8). If Apple will not update SE, then I guess I have to buy iPhone 8. Much cheaper and dimensions close to X...

I think they'll release a notch version of the SE in the future. The smaller form factor is still the best one for a number of users and there aren't many alternatives in the Android world.
I know part of SE success is the price, but I guess many customer buy that phone because they love the form factor. It took me ages to convince my dad to switch to iPhone 6 and the only reason he went for the bigger display is to have bigger fonts, but he really loved his iPhone 5 form factor since it's easy to put into a pocket and to use one handed.

"Hi could I get a '2018 iPhone X Plus SE Space Gray Red Edition' with non-fat milk and a dash of cinnamon? Thx."

Remember when it was just 'The iPhone?' There's a difference between customer options and fragmenting/cannibalizing your product line.

People who are fussy about color (such as photographers), are.
That’s what I’m wondering. Beside the fact that any current screen tech has some sort of off-axis viewing issues, are people actually holding their iPhones at a 45° angle to their line of sight? It’s pretty absurd to picture it. And even if they are, are creative pros really doing their most critical viewing and editing on an iPhone? It just doesn’t seem so. I think that a lot of this stuff is driven by techies doing side by side comparisons and spec warring, like so many other things in the tech world.

Otoh, microLED seems like a legit way forward: no chance of burn-in, very bright for outside, but pretty miserly with batteries.

There is no cannibalizing your own lineup! They will all sell for different targets.

yea the plus gets the sub standard screen. shame the mobile screen don't have the same quality as the their oled tv's cause i love my lg oled

The colour change when you tilt the device is my only annoyance with the X. Like, I can live with FaceID failures, but when I notice the colour change I kick chairs over.

Wait ... aren't you doing the same thing that you're accusing him of doing?
No, I'm not. I'm going to wait to see the device before making a decision to buy, but that doesn't mean I can't have an expectation that the screens will be better than those of the Pixel. If that expectation turns out to be false, I won't buy either.

Really wish they would offer at least one new phone with a smaller form factor than the current iPhone X, even if it meant cutting some tech. Hopefully the future Apple watches will be able to completely replace the need for a phone.

I like the current iPhone X size, but I may go for the "plus" next time because I want the landscape mode in the home screen and first party apps, for when mirroring... As strange as it sounds. Also since the watch has cellular now, I don't have to carry a gigantic phone in my pocket when out walking, etc.

Do you really think Apple will not have any QC involved in the process? The LG panels will be just fine. Except for the fan boys who look for any reason to complain about their $1000 phone.

I don't know why everybody is assuming that a massive company like LG, with nearly unlimited resources and also the industry leader in OLED TVs, can't iron out the issues they had with the Pixel 2 screens (which, IMHO, were overblown). I'll take a wait-and-see attitude. Add in Apple's demanding QC and I doubt there will be a notable difference.

Again this doesn't make any sense.

LG are properly losing money doing it, as the quality required by Apple might means LG only get 4 out of every 10 they produce. And that is assuming they could achieve it.

May be these 2-3M panels are for something else?
