I'm seriously considering switching or at least trying Android next year. I DO NOT want Face ID as the only way to authenticate. I love Touch ID and would be like to have the option of using it. How hard is it to have Touch ID on a slightly lengthened side button. It's been done already. Pfft.

I need a 15"-17" iPad.

Please can I have one soon?

and then you'd probably want a keyboard case to go along with that? or just get a MBP.

LG and Samsung = Android.
So while we all talk about how innovative Apple is, remember they rely on the rest of the industry to produce components.

I'm not saying it's bad, but the after being in the tech industry for 30 years, the industry is incestuous and makes strange bedfellows.

My understanding is that LG Innotek are the only OEM for this Face ID component. I agree with your direction, however I don't think they have many options for the next couple of years. :apple:

I hope not!! How would you hold it?! They'd have to program some smart touch rejection if there are no bezels. Not to mention unless it's OLED, they'd need a bezel for the digitizer in an LCD set up

Not really. I don't know how you hold your ipad, but I'm a big guy with big hands, and i NEVER touch the screen with my fingers or palms while holding it. When i hold an ipad, wether in portrait or landscape mode, my fingers cup the back and my palms press against the sides of the ipad thus supporting it. My thumbs are free to type. I don't see how removing the bezels would affect this.

Who said anything about it being difficult or hard to have touch ID on the power button? It obviously was not Apples choice to have Touch ID on the power button. I think it's fairly clear Apple's full intentions was to always have touch ID to be incorporated into Face ID, Even though they did experiment with other methods according to Federighi. However, Face ID was always Plan A.

I knew it was time to wait when I saw the 10.5” iPad. Question to me is if the screen gets bigger or the device smaller.

I would love for the device to get smaller, since i prefer the ipad mini size...but i think it will be that the screen gets bigger. Why? Cause then Apple won't have to redesign the smart keyboard.

Manufacturing hardware components is not the business Apple wants to be in, smartly. It's capital intensive, commoditized, and mostly no one cares about individual hardware components.

The iPhone is software. The hardware is put together in a beautiful package and presented to the customer with nearly zero advertisement of who made what's in it.

Innovation isn't the manufacturing of a component. It's more how do you get the components that exist in a package that is usable, cool, and works together with the software.

All the components in original iPhone (which is probably the most innovative consumer product of our lifetime) already existed. Apple put them together in away never before seen AND executed it with software perfection.

If your argument is hardware based, basically no company innovates because all phones have cameras, processors, AI chips, etc now. Execution is everything.

Why does everyone say this? No, i don't want a keyboard to go with it and I don't want an MBP which I already have. I need a 15-17" iPad to use a portfolio.

Dear Apple, we do not all want Face ID on the iPad. Please don't litter all the top models with this junk.

My iPad Pro is far and away my most frequently used device, but no way I'll own one with Face ID.

From someone with a Face ID device, I don’t think I would want both on my device. Face ID is plenty. Just make Face ID better and for iPad. Plenty.
Agreed, having touch ID will be a waste. I'll never use it, but idk maybe you'll use touch ID and face ID simultaneously cause you're fancy

Could be both ways and redesigning the Smart Keyboard might the the smallest issue. I wonder what size the 12.9” would end up
