Strange, doesn't mirror my experience with the monitor at all. I'm sure it doesn't beat a high quality EIZO or NEC when it comes to color accuracy but compared to the newer Dell offerings I've seen like the UP3214Q, which came with very saturated colors of the box, I prefer the picture on this LG.

I don't see 'dark grey' blacks on my monitor either, the only time blacks aren't black is near the far lower left and right hand corners which is common of IPS panels. Maybe he got a bad unit...

weird.

My monitor has an ON/OFF switch, just left to the headphone port.
The model he reviewed did not have that (and he was not happy about it in his article).
Maybe he got a pre-series unit?

On my side, as my vendor has no DOA solution with their supplier, I have to deal with LG directly. For the moment it does not look good and it seems that I will have to send it in for repairs. WTF. Waiting for LG to call me back.

That is really strange considering other reviews such as german c't (which I value in their criticallity and objectivity - I don't know about this digital trend website) praised this panel for it's good contrast (they measured 930:1) as well as neutral grey bands and good colours.

I had placed an preorder months ago, then decided against it (too much space on my desk with flanking 27" TB's), now I placed another preorder as I decided that I just had to see this wide screen monster. It will go instead on my Old Mac Pro as a single monitor.

If it's wide enough for the type of gaming I like to do (MMORPG) then it might be ideal. I'm just not happy playing LOTRO on a regular screen, and doing a Eyefinity 3 monitor setup drops the frame rate at the edge of unacceptability (30 fps). Multiple monitors, except for business setups, is really a compromised solution.

But now I'm wondering with the review above, are there color and contrast issues?

I wonder if the poor test results could be from the monitor being identified as a TV in some cases. I don't know if this happens on a PC.

Also, this monitor is capable of emulating 10bit color using dithering, which might be turned on by default when using DisplayPort on Windows. This might also cause some poor test results.

In my experience the monitor seems to take some time to warm up, the backlight is quite non-uniform when the monitor starts up, but evens out with some time.

looking at adorama, B&H and new egg they have all raised their prices again. The $899 deal is gone

How do I know that I need to make the RGB mod on this monitor?

If in System Information the monitor is listed as Television: Yes.

Which, as far as I can see, it will be every time if you connect to the display via Thunderbolt/DisplayPort.

My small review is this.

I LOVE THIS MONITOR!!

I just had a small "bug" with my Mac Pro late 2013, I'm using the thunderbolt connection to my mac pro, the down/left port ( port 0) didn't work to well, the first time I power on the mac pro I never had picture, I needed to remove the cable and connected again. But the down/right port ( still port 0) It's working well, no problems at all.

I didn't notice anything with the patch, maybe because I already have the 10.9.3 OSX update on my Mac Pro when the Monitor arrived.

I think this is such an amazing display and I'd love to get it. Sadly For what I do, the 21:9 aspect ratio is a mess.

Plus Youtube does't seem to like it much and just black bars everyone that's watching without a 21:9 monitor. :(

I've seen so many beautiful photos and everything as well.

A friend of mine borrow me his Spider3 color correction, but I can't use it with the True color software that comes with LG. It ask me to plug the USB (I have connected) and no luck.

Anyone have tried the True Color software with Mavericks and New Mac Pro?

That's something I'm wondering about now. Apparently the X-Rite Colormunki Display works with it , although in windows. Not sure how the LG software will work in OSX.

Ok, I'm tired to wait for an Apple monitor refresh and I'm ready to pull the trigger on this LG monitor. Will use it with a nMP for 3D and other graphic tasks.
Is there any user who have switched from an Apple thunderbolt display to this? I'm particularly worried about color accuracy or any other reason to avoid this monitor..

anyone else with this monitor experiencing it powering down on its own randomly? Only done it once while I was working on it but it is annoying. Not sure if a bug or something worse, but the first couple of times I just assumed I had hit the power button, but this past time it just turned off while I was using it.

It comes right back on with a touch of the button, but I hope this isn't a sign of future problems.

Got mine today. Gonna run it next to my Thunderbolt display to try it out for a while. Had to move it to the Kitchen to set them up side by side. No room on my desk for both. My initial impression is that I like it better than the TB display and I'll be selling the TB display soon.

Nothing here... :( i hope it could be only a cable connection.

Try to change the cable connection.

I'm using mine with Thunderbolt cable.

Hi!

Using this monitor with the 15" late-2013 Retina Macbook Pro through the Thunderbolt 2 cable only, do I have access to the USB ports? Or will I have to connect another cable to use the USB hub?

Thank you.

I had access to an open box unit today but ultimately passed it up. My last open box resulted in a video card making my office smell like an ashtray. I'm sure it was a one-off, but I wasn't feeling lucky.

Why don't you try plugging something into the USB ports to check. :)
