I'm having such a strange issue that just started happening... When I plug in my LG Ultrafine to my Touchbar MBP (all USB C ports), I get an error notification that says "Cannot Use Thunderbolt Accessory: Connect accessory to a Thunderbolt port on this Mac." Everything used to work fine, I never dropped the monitor or anything like that. I sent the monitor into LG, they took so long (over a month) to fix it, and finally, I just got it back today. I plugged it in, and the same exact issue happened!! I tried two different cables, every port on my Mac, everything. I don't understand what could be causing this issue. Anyone else dealt with this?

sounds like it's a connection problem. What macOS and cables you have? have you reinstalled your OS?

One of my LG5's started having bad ghosting of images ... it goes away fast but the images stick and I can see them behind other windows. Anyone else have this?

Just make sure its a high quality cable. Some cheap generic's on amazon will not work right.

I'm using 10.13.2 and I tried both the Apple official USB C cable as well as the one that came with the LG monitor. I don't understand how either of those could be causing the issue. I have not tried reinstalling the OS, do you think that could actually be a solution? It seems hardware related to me, I have plugged into HDMI monitors successfully after this LG problem started happening. I'll try the OS reinstall anyway, I have nothing to lose I suppose.

Have any new firmware updates been spotted? This monitor is still bug ridden.
Currently running 3.04,1.13,5237,3.04,0.1e

Yes, we have, all of our 4 LGs are going back to Apple at the moment.

I am getting the LG 5k tomorrow to test it against the iiyama 5k I have right now. Are the latest LG's really still that bad? The reason I am asking is, I won't keep the ordered LG but rather get one through eBay if I like it overall. However, that seems like such gamble at that point.

Are you using all of the LG's with Macbooks or iMacs as well? I plan on using the LG with my iMac and am wondering whether it should perform better with it than with the Macbook technically wise or if there is no difference at all?

The iiyama I have now works just fine and its actually using the same panel as the iMac. However, it's just 8 Bit and displays less colors.

I'm reading mixed messages about wether this is a MBP or LG issue. Has anyone tested another TB monitor with the MBP (if one exists)?

It must be the only one for now. I also don't see any announcements about anything new coming up this year later on, besides the LG presented at the CES, or did I miss something?

No cable, OS update or firmware update is going to fix image retention (ghosting). That's a problem with the screen itself.

Hey, I thought I had mistakenly thought that firmware updates were available, but actually they are.

When you download the LG Screen Monitor here:
http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-27MD5KA-B

The first thing it wants to do when you launch it, is update your monitor firmware. I just installed it. I'll report back if anything happens as the result of it.

What version firmware are you seeing?

With the same LG software, I am still seeing the 3.04 version with no update available.

I see the 3.04 version too, but I was on an earlier version before running the updater. So, I guess I should have qualified that there was a Firmware update, but only because I still had the original firmware I got in the first batch of LG 5K's.

I haven't noticed much of image retention issue, can anyone comment how to replicate the issue to test it out?

Go into settings and set your desktop wallpaper to be black or any dark solid color. Then open a few windows. Wait a minute. Move the windows around. You'll still see ghosts of the windows at the old location. They'll be there for a few minutes.

If you switch your desktop to a light background, you won't see the ghosts... or at least I don't.

My LG 5K monitors do not have the “Rotation” option on display preferences. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Also under system report for the Radeon 460, it doesn’t say Rotation: Supported under LG Ultrafine.

Running latest software on monitor and macos.

I have a 5K display from the original batch. I've been using it with a Mac Pro (not at full 5K, with a thunderbolt 2->3 adapter) since I got it with no problems.

I now have a new Macbook Pro and I have to plug and unplug it for about 10 minutes every time I want to connect to it. Most times plugging it in causes my mac to freeze until I unplug it. Sometimes the laptop screen goes black but then comes back and the display doesn't come on. Sometimes nothing happens. ... and eventually it works.

Is this just my life now? :(

edit: woohoo! Solved by using a Thunderbolt 2 cable and 2 x adapters https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/lg-ultrafine-5k-issues-bugs.2024679/page-32#post-25783111

Try another Thunderbolt 3 cable.

I have the Apple one and a Startech one but I'll try another. It's worth a shot!

In that case, I would check if you can have LG fun your monitor under warranty. I used to have that problem and during one of the 6 times that I returned the monitors to LG, they fixed something electrical that made the problem go away. I believe it was related to the missing shielding on the monitors.
