Just got my 5k set up. Editing some photos for the first time and noticed that the 5k is quite a bit warmer than my 15" tbMBP. Dare I say it's even yellowish. Anyone else notice this?

I know I can calibrate but I was hoping that the default profile out of the box would be fine.

You should calibrate it for photo editing.

Fair enough. Though I need to make sure this is a software (calibration) issue and not a hardware issue.

Is anyone else's 5k more yellow than their MBP?
Same. Seems like a common issue. I use Flux though, so it's not a big issue per se.

My colors are fine, but it is substantially slower editing images on the 5K display when the MBP lid is closed, vs on the MBP directly without the LG display attached. Really slows down workflow and defeats the whole purpose for an external display. This is with Lightroom 6.8.

I noticed that only the bottom right corner of the screen has a yellow tinge. This is noticeable when the is a white background. I ordered another display and will return this one once I receive it.

I'm definitely experiencing the "stuck giant cursor" issue, and it also happens in other apps too - currently I have a bounding box from InDesign showing up on top of everything, even after I've quit InDesign. It even shows up when the display is blank or the screensaver is running.

Also, Photoshop is painfully slow when using some tools (specifically the select/marquee tool).

13" MBP TB, with 16GB RAM. Using the LG cable that the 5K display shipped with, in the left back TB3 port of my MBP.

I picked up the Belkin TB3 cable at the Apple Store, it did help slightly with speed performance, but not great. It is an improvement over the cable supplied by LG.
The other issues you mention still persist.

I only used it for an hour or so but Lightroom 6 with a second screen was decent for me. I turned the screen mode to Loupe? - Live and making adjustments is pretty quick.

Where are you seeing slowdown?

I think it's because he has the 13"

I mentioned this in a previous post - one of the two LG 5k's I ordered arrived with a faulty Thunderbolt 3 cable - the MBP screen kept blinking in and out as if changing resolution and video on the LG 5k attached to the other end of the cable wouldn't work at all, even though the MBP was being charged by the TB3 cable. I thought it'd just be a case of swapping out the cable; I was wrong!

LG (UK) support didn't even have the 5k on their system and were unable to help! I thought i'd be able to order a replacement cable from my local Apple Store, but as the LG 5k isn't an Apple product, I was told they don't keep inventory of parts and that the only option was to return the whole screen for a refund/replacement. I then called Apple support who were great and escalated the case. As a consequence they're sending out a replacement display before I send back the faulty cable (and display).

Incidentally, my local Apple Store let me have (foc) a Belkin 2m TB3 cable to try out. This actually seems to work fine in every respect, but as the Belkin cable is only rated for supplying 60w of charge (vs the MBP-friendly 85w over the LG 5k cable) - I chose to go ahead with the replacement. This seems like a sledgehammer to crack a nut, but I presume replacement parts will become more readily available when supply is less constrained?

The Belkin cable looks identical to the LG one, but I do feel that the Belkin cable seems more robust than the LG one!? I read another post in these forums where someone has a LG 5k cable which works but is a bit flaky? I hope this post helps them and anyone else with the same problem.
I had the exact same issue. I thought the cable was suspicious but I can do (after an hour on the phone with Apple support) is return the unit and have them ship me another one. Did your replacement fair any better?

I have the following issues with a new 13" MBP with touch bar and the LG 5k monitor:

1. If the computer is asleep and closed, and connected to the monitor, I cannot wake it up by using the mouse or keyboard. On my last monitor (Thunderbolt display), I could wake it up this way.
2. If I unplug the monitor while the computer is awake, it will cause the laptop screen to go black. Nothing I do will make it show an image other than blackness, so I need to do a hard reboot.
3. If I plug in the monitor while the computer is awake, I get a crash screen, and the computer reboots.

Is anyone else having these issues? These issues have made it quite unpleasant to work with!

I have exactly the same issues.

I have exactly the same issues.

I'm also on the 13" but have none of those issues. I'm running the latest Sierra beta.

My issue right now is my computer waking up randomly after being put to sleep. I tried disabling WIFI last night and it seems to have solved the issue (woke up this morning and computer was still asleep).

I have 2 LG 5ks. Both are working, but one screen is definitely a warmer color than the other. One has a more natural (similar to built-in display), while the other is definitely cooler, more green/blue tint.

I've tried my best to calibrate with advanced software calibration, but couldn't resolve it. Playing around with just the white-point temperature didn't help either. I also tried with my Spyder3Elite, and while it got the overall colors closer, it totally messed up my greys. The default LG calibration profile is definitely more consistent for greys, but the difference in white-point is really annoying.

I've had my display for a few days and have had the following issues (I am using this with a 2016 15" MBP with a 460 GPU and 16GB RAM):

- On two separate occasions when on a video call (once using Skype, the other using Google Hangouts), the camera froze, the speaker stopped working (and perhaps the microphone), and everything plugged into the back of the display (keyboard, iPhone, and Seagate Backup Plus external drive) disconnected. The display stayed on. Disconnecting/reconnecting the monitor didn't restore connections at first, and only seemed to work after leaving it disconnected for several seconds).

- There is significant difference in speaker volume between one and two bars (as others have noted)

- Windows in Mail.app were not refreshing properly. If I changed from one e-mail to another, Mail.app would still show the content from the previous e-mail, or the display would render part of one and part of the other. This may

The hubs on the back keep failing. I have a Belkin USB C Network Adapter that intermittently disconnect when on video calls. Happens in both Skype and Google Hangouts. Also, when this happens it disconnects the Hard Drive plugged into the monitor and the built-in video camera and sound stop working. I have to unplug it from my Macbook Pro and unplug the power from the monitor to get it working again. The video on the screen is working the entire time. No issues there.

I am having the same problems.

I think it's because he has the 13"

I do have a 13" 2016 MBP TB, i7, so it's maxed out, but that shouldn't matter. It works perfectly fast on the laptop as a stand-alone, and this 5K monitor was designed to power and support full video for the new 13"MBP, but once connected to the monitor and close the lid of the MBP, the speed is visibly slower to switch between images, loading images takes a few seconds instead of a second, adjustments sometime don't appear right away, arrowing threw images in full screen is noticeably slower. And it gets even worse after a few minutes, loading an image or fine adjustments take several seconds to appear, very frustrating . If I switch back to the MBP and remove the display then again back to the display, it speeds up, but ultimately slows down again shortly after.

Update: I have since returned the display to Apple and will be receiving a new one on Monday. The scariest part for me was my Time Machine backup drive that kept randomly ejecting on it's own, both in the middle doing something else or was already ejected after waking up from sleep (it never ejected while running a backup). I tried a second external drive for TM and same issue occurred. Wondering if the hub in the monitor may of had issues. I was worried about corrupted backups, so requested a replacement.

If the new display continues with the same issues, I may wait a couple of weeks for either a firmware update or the next MAC OS release before finally dumping it for good, and going back to the Thunderbolt display that wasn't as nice, but issue-free.

Has anyone had their mouse cursor get 'stuck' on the display? I've had this happen twice when I moved my mouse quickly and the 'large mouse' animation appeared on screen (but this doesn't happen every time). Essentially, image of the large mouse will stay on screen and above all window but my actual cursor would still work and appear on screen in the normal small size. Weirdly, I tried to take a screen grab but the image doesn't actually show the issue. I'll try taking a picture with my iPhone next time.

I had my first stuck cursor yesterday. Maybe something to do with the mouse movement and the fact that it has to "stitch" the display together? (nMP outputting at 4K). I also had a sleep problem (1 time only) when waking up from overnight. Other than that - no problems.

Note: I was powering down and moving things around to set up my desk so maybe I wiggled the connector loose?

Also having the same USB connection issues every so often.

I'm waiting on Apple to get a replacement for one of my monitors which has a pinkish tint and light bleeding when viewing all black at 100%. Let's see what happens.

It matters that the 13" is using the iGPU to power the extra 5K pixels where the 15" has a dGPU for the work.
5K is a lot of pixels to push.

I get that, makes a lot of sense, and agree in principle, but Apple marketed the 13" to power and drive a single 5K, whereas the 15" was needed for 2 x 5K monitors. It should not be slowing down this much.

I'm not doing any gaming, just photo editing in Lightroom, it should be near perfect!

Guys, honestly, if you're having problems right out of the box, I'd really recommend returning it.

Something like a monitor should be working flawlessly out of the gate and if not, it's not worthy of anyone's $1,000+

We all love Apple, but I personally can't get onboard with supporting products they release or endorse that are not working seamlessly from moment one.

I've had my LG 5K display for 4 days now, and while it looks amazing, the issues are quite annoying. I regularly use my 2016 13" nTB MacBook Pro in clamshell mode when attached to the 5K display via the included ThunderBolt 3 cable. The first issue I encounter is when I "undock" or unplug the display to use the MacBook Pro by itself. I've tried both, unplugging the MacBook Pro while it's asleep and awake, and the issue I encounter still persists. Basically, when I unplug the MacBook Pro and then proceed to open the lid to use it, the screen become backlit (a dark grey color) and the keyboard backlighting illuminates, however, there is no functionality - the login screen will not appear, no keys work, and I have to hard shutdown and reboot for the system to function. This issue has happened EVERY time I've unplugged the MacBook Pro from the 5K display.

The second issue I've been experiencing is with an external USB-C hard drive that I keep plugged into the back of the 5K display. Upon plugging in my MacBook to the 5K display, I can hit a button on my keyboard to awaken the MacBook however the external hard drive does not automatically mount. I have to go into Disk Utility to mount it. Again, this issue has happened EVERY time I've plugged the MacBook Pro into the 5K display.

I currently have a call into Apple regarding these issues, which they said they had to escalate to their engineers. Regardless, these issues are quite frustrating and annoying! Anyone else have similar issues??

Finally returned mine for good today. Initially, it was DOA. The problem was identified as a defective USB-C cable which the Apple Store replaced. Two days later it started randomly going black. It was also causing the screen to intermittently freeze as well as to not scroll smoothly. LG tech support said they would get back to me in 3 business days which I thought was ridiculous. Apple Support was nice in that they got me in touch with a Level 2 tech at LG who said my unit was likely defective and needed servicing. All that aside, it looked great when it worked. Hopefully, Apple and LG will get the issues eventually sorted out. Until they do I'm sticking with my 4 year old TB display which has worked flawlessly since the day I bought it.

I too have seen the giant stuck cursor. It's happened three times over the past week with intermittent use of the LG monitor. Unplugging and replugging the cable makes it go away.
