It was bought from an official Apple reseller, the store is listed on the apple website as official reseller. It’s not a random shop, the laptop has not being used before, I’m getting tired of this conspiracy theory about an used laptop, it’s a cosmetic issue from the fabric, ya Apple is not Philip Patek, sometimes products come out of the fabric with small issues, mine it’s one

Why haven't you taken it in for a refund?

Again, just return it and repurchase it ... or get over it ... life is way too short to kvetch over nearly imperceptible micro scratches on a keyboard. Use it for an hour and you will introduce more wear and tear...

You are not automatically able to return your purchase in europe, in retail stores, like you can do it in apple store accepting them back - even when used. Every country has their own laws and where i live, if you buy a device from a store, you cannot return it and ask a refund - if you ordered it from their netstore, you have 14 days time to return it if it is not taking into use (e.g. installing the os). Some stores give you extra time to return devices even bought from the store, but you are not able to do it automatically. And every stores dont provide that kind of returnings.

Even apples so called premium resellers dont take devices back when bought from the store. That is the reason why i only buy my apple devices straight from apple netstore (we dont have physical apple stores here).

Looks less like a scratch and more a mark in the anodisation, similar to the small marks below the speaker grills which are very common on the TB MBPs - if it makes you feel any better, if you exchanged this one, you'd quite possibly end up with one that has those marks (which are more noticeable than something tucked away near a key, even if still very minor).

i bet anyone here whining about whining would cry if their apple watch had a similar scratch and immediately queueing to replace it, and the apple watch is even multiple times cheaper than the mbp 15”. why would the scratch on mbr would be acceptable if it is bothering the buyer/owner?

i really cant say how much that scratch would bother in a real life because photos are always photos - it may be almost invisible and only visible in certain situations or it could be a shiny mark that always reminds you being there.
The difference is that most of us wouldn’t make a thread about it.

Why is everyone being so rude to OP? I’m sure the person who BOUGHT them the laptop wouldn’t want it to have scratches on the expensive gift they gave either.

Also, these keyboards are very prone to failures. Can you imagine them denying service if it’s one of the keys that has a scratch? They’d be claiming used inflicted damage and deny the warranty claim, leaving this person to $600 in replacement fees.

I would too complain if the gift came defective as well.

If you were gifted anything and it had a scratch or defect, im 99.9 percent sure you’d get an exchange too. You’re all just saying this acting tough because you’re behind a keyboard that wasn’t messed up during production.

It’s not even the keyboard that was scratched ... look at it again. And no. If I got a gift with a defect I would appreciate for that person to have taken his money to buy something for me.

So Apple, who is making all this money without good quality control, gets to get away with it just because it’s a “gift”?

A person who bought OP this worked for this gift. I wouldn’t want to work for a gift that has a scratch out of the box.

I don’t wear rings and I didn’t. I noticed the scratches as soon I unboxed the MacBook Pro and updated Mojave
I would say your retailer or the person that sold it to you is at fault. It's obviously not "new" and it's been handled before.

Looks more like a manufacturing or repair issue. I don't see how you could scratch that spot outside of using some kind of tool.

IMO when you buy something brand new, especially something as expensive as a macbook pro, there should be ZERO marks or scratches or anything on it, it should be absolutely 100% clean and new. Anything less that that is pure robbery if Apple doesnt immediately give a refund or exchange.

So much terrible advice in this thread! Hope you get it swapped out mate. Grade B quality right out of the box isn’t good enough.

Getting away with it? What control does Apple or any other company have over mass manufactured goods by another Human Being? Things like this happen everytime. The laptop will even get more scratches in less than a week. It's called Physics and Real World.

By the way, do we know if it’s new or do we know it’s refurbished ? That would be very important to this whole thread as well as his life sucks moment

The MacBook Pro was acquired in an official apple reseller store listed on their website, again it’s NEW not refurbished, it’s a 2019 model. It hasn’t been used by anyone, it is a cosmetic issue from the fabric, WHY IS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND????, Apple is NOT Phillipe Patek when is about quality we all know that, but I want an exchange because the MacBook Pro 15” (NEW NOT REFURBISHED) has a defect (a scratch under a key)

I contacted the store and Apple support. The store told me to wait 15 days for an answer and they gave me back the laptop with the cosmetic issue, I am not gonna use it since it can be used as excuse to deny me an exchange or refund, after that I contacted Apple support again and I’m waiting for a call from a “supervisor level 2” whatever that means, they told me the supervisor can contact the store for an answer about my problem with the laptop.

Update:
This morning the supervisor called me and told me she wants to help me to exchange the laptop for a new one, but since today is Sunday and the technician is not today in the store she (supervisor) will call tomorrow and update me about the decision. I told her the store didn’t take me seriously which is true

If you go buy a mercedes and it has a scratch from production, then im going to go say "well its going to be scratched sooner or later anyways". See how ridiculous and barbaric that sounds? If youre spending a lot of money on a product, youre going to expect it to be perfect with no defects.
