Hey there everyone. I just got a defender, but am looking for something with a little more dust proofing, so I'm looking towards the lifeproof. Is it relatively safe to say that if I order it from a retailer such as Amazon, that I'll get the latest version of the case? Or is it a better idea to just order straight from lifeproof?

Now to hope I kept the otterbox packaging so I can return it xP

Only order from LifeProofs real page on Amazon! Way too many fakes out there!

Huh. After hearing all the horror stories about amazon, I'm thinking I may just want to order direct from lifeproof. Or go to best buy? How do I know if I'm purchasing the most recent version of the case?

Ordering direct from LifeProof will get you the latest case.

Figured. Hmm, i just remembered that I have some money to REI to spend though, so I'd rather go there and pay less out of pocket. Is there a way to tell from the packaging what version it is? Serial number range or something?

Err... And does anyone know what version they're on?

Alright, just picked one up.

I have NO idea what generation it is. It's got a black foam piece on the top front, and no black foam on the rear, just two raised parts.

I bought it from REI, whom is an authorized retailer for them so I trust it.

They had 2 cases that the back S/N label (i guess?) said 7xxxxx and one that is 9xxxxx which is the one that I bought.

The serial numbers on the insides of the case are somewhere in the 2 millions. Is it still necessary to register the case?

Did i get the most recent version they make? They also had colored cases, but the S/N's were totally different there. I'm water testing it now, as we speak and am excited to get it on the phone.

Any chance anyone could give me some insight to the version this case is? REI is good about retruns/ exchanges, so I would imagine it pretty easy to get a change if need be.

Sounds like the latest. And no, you don't need to register the cases anymore. They all come standard 1 year warranty (for the case. No warranty on the device inside)

awesome. Yeah, i JUST installed it and I love it!!!

The sound quality on while on both speakerphone and normal is every so slightly degraded, but there's no issues with the other person hearing me.

I sprayed down with some canned air during installation just in case, to get some dust out too, but i managed to get almost no Newton Rings! Less so than my Otterbox Defender, which will be going back to Amazon.

I've got a little bit of dust under the screen, but for now I guess i'll live with it. I dont really want to keep taking the case on and off.

How durable are these things in regards of taking them on and off multiple times?

Well ive taken it on and off probably around 7-8 times so far, getting dust out and making sure that everythings cool so (being crazy)...

dropped it in water, held my breath and it worked! :)

ONE THING- Does anyone else have a small small small gap around the bottom left of the case? Like where the headphone jack is? It looks like maybe a 1mm larger gap than around the rest of the phone. This is what was making me crazy, so much that I decided to water test it again w/o the phone in it. Took a look, and there locking points for this one corner are different than the rest of the case, so that's probably why it's different. But yeah. Anyone else have this gap? Seems to be easier to pry the case apart from this one corner, rather than the other one with the coin hole. This is my biggest worry, but I'm probably just being neurotic. I even tested with the phone in the case. It did what it was supposed to and kept the water out.

Mine has various gaps around it. It is waterproof so long as the O-ring is sealed within. (The case gets wet inside, just not passed the O-ring)

Mine goes on and off all the time, bought it in March.

Mine retired today when I got the nüüd. So far, my nüüd is way better.

Ah alright. Yeah it just got me worried for a bit that I may have a dud. Seems to not be a problem.

Edit: now when you say yours comes off all the time- do you mean you TAKE it off, or parts pop off?

Edit 2. Ended up exchanging the case for an olive drab. Like the color better. Is it still safe to say I got the latest iteration of the case? The inside looked the same as the black one.

The colored cases should be the most recent version or certainly close to it. The case was only available in black and white for quite some time and most or all of the different revisions happened before the colored cases were even available.

Ah I see. Hmm. I'm kind of regretting exchanging, since the volume on this one seems to be lower, through the earpiece at least. If I try and get it replaced under warranty via lifeproof (so I don't have to go back and exchange at REI again), will they send me a new case first, or do I have to send in this one before they'll send me a new one? Also, is it possible to get a different color as the replacement or will they only do a direct exchange?

Direct exchange. They ask you for your serial number(s) on the case and give you the same case in return.

They send you the case first, then you put your old one in the same box and ship it back to them

Not always... If you have purchased the case directly from LP, you 'usually' are approved for advanced replacement because they have your C. Card on file. If not, you send the case back first and after they receive it they send you the replacement.

I don't think that's the case... I've always purchased my cases from Best Buy and I've had to do RMA replacements a few times and they've always sent me the case first. I always thought it was kind of funny because there was a little note in there saying that they would charge the credit card on file if I didn't return the bad part, but they don't have any of my cards on file.

Huh. Well, just submitted a request. I exchanged my olive green for a black, only to find that the screen protector has a scratch on it. Went on their site And submitted a warranty request. Has anyone done one recently? Any idea how quick they'll get back to me?

The case I got this time was in the 1,000,000's. Almost no newton rings, and it seems they made the plastic on the proximity a bit thinner.

They should send me the latest version, like this one through a warranty replacement, right? Not just an old model? If the replacement is older, can I send that back instead of the one I'm using now? (Or if I decide to just keep this one on and ignore the tiny little scratch since the sound on this one is actually fantastic!)?

It seems to usually take two or three days before you'll get a reply to a request submitted on the web site, then another day or so before they ship the replacement. They ship from California with UPS mail innovations, so another few days for shipping depending on how far you are from California.

If you call instead of submitting a request on the web site you can save a couple of days, but lately their hold times have been pretty long... 20 or 30 minutes seems about average.

Any owners of this case know if it will fit an iPhone 5 with an SGP Glass TR screen shield?

I'm looking to get a case like this one (for my holidays) to fit on my 5, however, I really don't want to remove the glass screen shield from my phone!

Huh... alright maybe ill give them a call today then. I'd assume they could look up my case number and whatnot. Thanks!

I have a jelly bean home button because the glass TR shield is is slightly raised - would that help or will this case physically not fit with a glass screen shield?

The problem is that the tolerances on this case are very tight because it's waterproof and all. Lifeproof specifically states that you can't use the case with a screen protector on the phone. You run the risk of the case not sealing correctly and water leaking in.

That said, I know there are some people who have used the case with a screen protector with no problems (although I don't know about a glass one). If you're willing to take the risk you can try it and see if you can get the case to close and see how well the home button works.

Also, if you're looking at a lifeproof case you may want to consider the new Nuud case that is similar to the Fre, but it doesn't have anything covering the screen at all. Unfortunately you can't use a screen protector with that case either, but I think it's a much better case than the Fre.

The Fre comes with an optional stick on screen protector made for use with this case. If you prefer a different brand you can use it as a template to cut one.

Called up customer service, waitied a bit because of the congestion, but they were super helpful and are shipping me out a new front- half of the case! Incredibly happy with their customer service.
