The current Fre case does not have a gasket surrounding the screen, only the one sealing the halves together. The new has a gasket to seal around the screen so water does not pass the edges of the screen.

AND a gasket on the back half the case to seal the two halves together.

Thanks for clarifying. I guess it could be good for some uses, but if you plan to be doing a lot of water based activities, the fre is still the one to get.

EDIT: I should qualify my comments by clarifying that I have not used the nuud case. It may be fantastic. But something that requires two good seals is inherently more problematic than one that requires a single seal, in regards to waterproofness. If your planned activities involved submerging the phone, the fre would seem to be a 'safer' choice. :)

Looking at the review at iLounge of the new LifeProof nüüd iPhone 5 case , you can see Otterbox had input with this case with the front part. Looks like the same plastic they use for the Otterbox defender.

I thought the exact same thing.. Honestly this looks like the perfect blend between Otterbox and Lifeproof, but seeing that Lifeproof already had the nuud line with the iPad version, its definitely not anything they got from Otterbox. At least from Otterbox being owner

I agree, it's all LifeProof design, but the material used definately looks like Otterbox stuff. Still looks awesome and can't wait to get it, love my LifeProof products.

I've had my iphone 5 lifeproof case for 2 weeks now and the oil slicks has not gone away.

Is there anything else besides baby powder that I can try to get rid of these damn slicks?

I tried spraying compressed air along the side, but it didnt help.

Install a anti-glare screen saver. I did it and there are no more oil slicks.

I'd be wary of doing that, it could compromise the waterproof aspect of the case. Adding a few mm of thickness to the phone could make the case not seal completely.

I don't know. I called and had a replacement sent to me because the one I got from Bestbuy was terrible. They told me they were shipping me the newest model which I got Monday and it looks just like the left picture not the right.

Just sharing what I got in a reply from Lifeproof support. To be honest, I'm not even sure they know :|

So it's still uncertain which is the newest! Amazing.

I have the one on the left. It's waterproof and dirt proof. It's a specialist case for me only and good enough.

My everyday case is the slim SwitchEasy Tones. I can add the included port plugs and a Moshi screen for dirt protection, and keep the Fre for water and sand/ dust resistance.

The oldest ones have clear plastic. Looks like they've switched to white foam. Should be fine. :) enjoy.

Hey there everyone. I just got a defender, but am looking for something with a little more dust proofing, so I'm looking towards the lifeproof. Is it relatively safe to say that if I order it from a retailer such as Amazon, that I'll get the latest version of the case? Or is it a better idea to just order straight from lifeproof?

Now to hope I kept the otterbox packaging so I can return it xP
