As I remember it, there is a "little bit" more than $3000 difference between BMW3/Audi A4 and Honda Accord. It's more like $15-16K difference.

I don't think you should buy a new car. Grab last year's version, probably same design but minor tweaks. Soon as you but a new car off the lot, the price tumbles down at an exponential rate. It's not wise to get a brand new car.

I totally dont understand how you can compare these two or factor one against the other.

A macbook is roughly 3k - a german car is roughly 40k.

If you are in a situation where 3k is making or breaking you on the car ... you don't have enough anyway for a 40k car.

What a ridiculous post.. the cost differences are so huge that you could probably get 3 retina macbook pros for the price is of an A4 vs a Toyota Camry.

Worker harder and buy both.

I love my 7 series and it doesnt hinder my monthly tech budget at all.

If you need to give up a bimmer to buy a rMBP, you really couldn't afford either.

Is this serious?

Are your parents willing to get you both?
Can they toss in a couple German pancakes for kicks?

Audi A3's and BMW M3's are always driven by *******s.

I drive japanes, more reliable, understated (not 'look at me'), cheaper servicing quite often comparable performace if not better. Plus the last 2 brand new german cars have both been delivered with damage or faults to the electrics or bodyworks. German electronics on cars is awful most of the time.

I really dont get this post. A rMBP is nothing but a laptop and that is about it.

I would not give up anything for a rMBP. In a few months it will be last weeks news, maybe already is as people prepare for haswell and follow on intel chips.

I see the rMBP, just like I see a fork and spoon. A daily tool!

I voted 2 but the sensible options is probably one, sadly :(

Amazed at how even this poll is.

Audi=Crap ton of engine trouble
BMW= good but not the best.

Go with choice 2.
There are faster, more reliable, and powerful JDMs out there compared to GDMs.

Neither will make you happy - the joy of acquiring new possessions is pretty fleeting. Once you've bought these things they become part of your status quo.

When you are on your death bed are you going to care or even remember what type of car / laptop you bought in 2012?

Consider helping someone less fortunate with a portion of your disposable income, or invest in an incredible experience for someone you care about - altruism can be surprisingly rewarding.

If you have to ask this question, then you can't afford either one and especially not the fancy German car. Remember, a car is just something that takes you from point A to point B. Likewise, you probably don't really need a new rMBP.

My vote would be a Japanese car but not an rMBP.

coming from personal experience a german car will definitely require much more "disposable" income than almost any other car on the road.

I sold that BMW and bought an Acura TL (much better car imo)

why not just buy a good reliable car, the rMBP and save the rest or your income?

Of course yo are aware there are German cars in the same price range as an accord such as a VW GTi right?
Then you can have all 3 plus slightly less maintenance than either a Bimmer or an Audi

VW doesnt have that "cool" factor for a german car... Might as well get the japanese one since its more reliable and have the same level of performance

Except every time on the freeway the guy/gal in the Accord is cutting everyone off. ;)

Cool factor? I would never say there is a cool factor in driving a Audi or BMW.
