Except every time on the freeway the guy/gal in the Accord is cutting everyone off. ;)

Cool factor? I would never say there is a cool factor in driving a Audi or BMW.

I thought this should come as obvious since we are apple fanboys/girls... We always like to show off, its in our blood :)

I must ask if this is hypothetical question or are you looking for a purchase advice. Cause if it's the latter see the responses you get when you post this on a car forum.

I did not read the whole thread but I will say this, even though I am sure it has been said already:

If your asking this question, a $2000-$3000 laptop is affecting your ability to comfortably buy a car, your not ready to buy a car.

I mean, it's not that much money. You should not be basing the brand of car your buying on a couple of grand.

Honestly, it's your money and you should go ahead and use it any way you personally see fit. But, buying anything just for the sake of the name is pretty douchy.

Whatever helps you sleep at night, I guess

Imagine you are in my situation, I am trying to figure out what's more worth it to spend my disposable income on....

Choice #1
- German car (i.e. Audi A4/BMW 3)
- Sony Vaio S laptop

Choice #2
- Japanese car (i.e. Honda Accord)
- rMBP 15" with 3-year AppleCare
- whatever left will probably be spent on either iTV (next year) or branded clothes

#1, sans iTV, branded clothes, and other nose-held-high pompous garbage. I buy things that have purpose and that do work for needed functions.

Having owned a Vaio, unlike my MBP, I can say that the Vaio won't overheat or throttle when having to do work (I don't mean play dumb Flash games in a browser session, I mean real work).

And maybe if Apple built their laptops properly, one wouldn't need an extra warranty (that doesn't include accidents (unlike SquareTrade's...) on top of hyper-inflated prices...)

Still, it looks pretty so the higher cost always means it's better built, no? (Um, no...)

Now if we talked Mac Pro towers, but it looks like Apple is on the fence and will likely nix that model, which is a shame as it's the best and best-designed product it sells...

At first, I thought this thread was a little weird, but I can certainly relate.

Having owned a few BMWs, an e46 M3 and an e90 335, I would have to say the two happiest moments for owning each of these cars was the day of obtaining them, and the day of SELLING them. They're fun cars to drive, but they do have their share of glitches that you can comfortably deal with while they are under warranty. Out of warranty? Good luck, my friend, as repair costs can cost you a rMBP! :D

I've scaled things down in the car department and went for non-luxury type brands and opted for "fully-loaded" options.

For myself, I've had a passion for technology, so the choice for me here would be getting the rMBP.

+1 finally a non-stupid response

As an E46 owner, I think that your poll is flawed. If those are your only choices you need to do none of the above and save a little more money. You have one year to purchase AppleCare from the day you buy your Mac. You also need to consider the cost of maintenance for a car, I have owned mine for three years and feel lucky to have only averaged $50 a month in maintenance costs. Of course, if you are under twenty five I would say go with a Honda, Toyota or other Japanese car and save your money because you have plenty of time to buy a German car.

Do what works for you. Polling is never the way to determine your preference no matter what the topic. You need to decide based on your needs/wants/priorities -- not based on those of random people who may have entirely different needs/wants/priorities. If you really can't weigh the pros and cons to reach a decision then flip a coin.

If your budget is tight then a German car may not be the best choice but, again, it's your call to make.

A laptop wouldn't even factor into my car buying decisions. I buy cars that provide the driving experience that I want so my feedback isn't going to help you. Well, that and the fact that all 3 of my cars are Japanese.

Have you factored in repair costs for the car?
Not just repairs but TCO.

I thought this should come as obvious since we are apple fanboys/girls... We always like to show off, its in our blood
We are not. You and others may be but not everyone here is an Apple fanboy. Many of us are able to make rational purchasing decisions that lead us to Apple despite the stereotypes. Even Apple users aren't all identical clones so, once again, you need to use your own priorities to decide.

German car has the potential to get you laid.
If you need to rely on a car for that then the car isn't your problem.

The car stereotypes in this thread are ridiculous. All brands and countries have all types driving them. It's the driver that defines how the driver drives.

Get a Japanese sport-luxury car (Acura TL, TSX, or ILX, Lexus IS, Infiniti G), and get a MacBook. If you can't afford both you sure as hell can't afford the maintenance on a German car. My aunt's $26,000 Mini Cooper S had well over $10,000 worth of parts needing replacement before the 3 year warranty was up, including the turbocharger and top end of the engine. She's terrified of what will happen now that she has to pay for repairs.

Would I give up a german car? Yes. I've had three of them... two Audis and a Mercedes. They were all the biggest pieces of crap I've ever had. If you're into Mac because of the reliability and solid build, then get a Honda... It'll last you 250,000 miles without being in the shop 2/3 of the time.

The thing about owning a more expensive car with more gadgets is there's more crap to malfunction. Why pay the extra money only to spend 2/3 of your time in a rental car?

Even if you're not limited in car choice because of a $3000 laptop (I certainly am not), it's still a matter of practicality and financial sensibility/planning for a future in which your earning power will likely decline relative to inflation. Especially if you buy new... Because of their poor maintenance track record, German cars depreciate tremendously in the first year. But even if you buy used, the repairs won't cost you less.

If the type of laptop you buy takes you out of the market for a BMW maybe you shouldn't buy the BMW. I suggest putting off the BMW until you can comfortably afford it.

I just wanna help stimulate the very weak & fragile US economy by buying things i cant even afford

Do what I did and buy an older BMW for $1600 and still get the rMBP.

Put $500 into the car to get it running nice, and keep the other $45,000 for something else.

Audi is the most boring brand there is. It's boring, it's even boring to talk about audi....so many people drive audi like it's prestige, but it just screams " hey, i'm boring suburb tasteless middleclass"like nothing else

Bmw is ok, but i'd never buy one myself, if it's a company car, great!

Go with a alfa romeo mito, a fiat 500, or a vw, or even a skoda and a rmbp

Except every time on the freeway the guy/gal in the Accord is cutting everyone off. ;)

Accords tend to be drive by old men in the UK

Its all about the Honda Civic Type R for the speeder and cutter upper, not sure if they have those in the US.

The only reason I can't decide is because choice A which has the types of vehicles I like is paired with a Sony Vaio...if I could not get the Vaio and keep my 2011 MBP then I'd be okay with it.
