with the black iphone they said "ok preorders start on this date: June 15th". They haven't said anything at all about the white iphone preorders so I highly doubt they will just magically appear for preorder without first announcing it.

Maybe YOU should read first. He based that SPECULATION on the time that the black iP4 came up for pre-order. And just because you got some stuff off of Engadget doesn't make you a special snowflake. You don't know anything more than the rest of us do. If you don't like rumors/speculation/gossip, you are seriously in the wrong place.
No, maybe you should read. Benji was right. He's basing everything off of the Black iPhone 4's release, and you can't. Why? Because the device wasn't out when there were preorders and such. Now its out, so theres really no need for preorders. Just because the iPhone 4 preorder time was 5 doesnt mean the next will follow suit. Example, the original iPhone came out on June 29th. iPhone 3G came out July 11th. See where im going with this?

you are incorrect, the white iphone is classed as an unreleased product, yes the black has been released but the white has not, when speaking with apple chat the lady told me she expects pre orders as with all unreleased iphone products

You also need to work on your reading comprehension. I never said you could base everything off the black iP4's release. I merely stated that the OP was basing his ideas on the white iP4 release on what happened with the black. Not one person in this thread categorically stated "this is what's going to happen because this happened". See where I'm going with this?

While I don't think we should call it a "pre order", I think online ordering of the White iPhone will start before we see it in stores. Not sure if that will include any sort of reservation, but I do think Apple.com will make the iPhone 4 available online before the White iPhone hits stores.

Jobs said "ships by the end of this month", not "available at the end of this month", meaning that they will have to be "available" before they can "ship", therefore they should be up for 'pre-order' before the end of the month.
It's not technically a pre-order, per se, but since it'd be an order for a product that hasn't shipped, that's what I'll call it.
I guess what I'm trying to say, is they don't have to announce an order date. One day, the store will simply go down, and come back up with the white iPhone available to order, with "Ships: By July 31st" next to the picture.
Of course, with limited supply I think the date will slip to "Three Weeks" or perhaps even longer within a couple hours.

For what it's worth, I think that both possibilities are equally valid. Not to be "that guy" but after looking at Apple's past practices, there's really no reason why they wouldn't do either.
Historically, Apple has launched some pretty major product updates without preorder. One day they just "show up" in the store and that's that. On the other hand, if they start taking orders as soon as they start coming out of the factory in China, it would be like a preorder without the wait. You could "order" your phone before they get their own stock in retail stores. Some might consider that a preorder. Apple has surprised us time and time again by randomly breaking their own traditions (black iPhone 4s arrived days early) so I think it's shortsighted to think that any scenario is impossible...

I don't know who took the jam out of 'Benji222's donut but wow I didn't expect to receive a dressing down from someone from this thread! I don't think I'm going to loose sleep over it though 😉
I really hope it is tomorrow, just so I know I have it ordered. This whole 'limited quantities' thing is rather daunting for those of us who have waited this long (a whole 4 weeks lol).
P.S - My views were of course based on the previous black release, speculation, rumors and expectation. Did not claim to be otherwise and invited open discussion on the matter. Thanks to those who accepted that invitation! 🙂

An AT&T rep told me today that Apple recently told the stores to keep their launch day shirts for another event soon.
He speculated that it was for some kind of white iPhone launch. He said they have also been told they would not have any white demo units (he said they never get white demos).

I would say there is a 37.958213% chance that we will see the white iPhone 4 for pre-order tomorrow on the Apple site. Also a 42.142997% chance on the next Tuesday. On July 30th there is a 20% chance, they might not take orders until the end of the month, period. These are my own predictions.
