So, once it is available for order, how long do you think it will take to sell out the first batch?

Oh my goodness! Get your jazz hands ready! The white is coming! *flicks wrist in a completely natural way at thread* :p:D

I think if it is an unanounced release and it is at 4am or something, it will last a couple of hours.

If it is anounced ahead of time and it is at a more accesable time (say, 12noon) I don't think it will last more than an hour.

LOL! Oh ssssstop it! :D

In all seriousness I do like the black front with the white back. Looks nice IMO.

IMHO not!
I think if you want a white phone then it should be all white.
If you want a black phone then it should be all black.
None of this cop car looking stuff!

To each their own. The screen is far too sexy to have a white boarder around it. How many new HD TV's are available in white? I wonder why? :D

Thats segregation!

On the other hand, there are so many good names for a black and white iphone!

The Monochromatic
The Jungle Fever edition
The Zebra
The Oreo

Feel free to add to the list!

This concerns me too. I wish people who have used the black and white would comment on whether or not the white border "washes out" the screen.

Most e-readers are white, I wonder if it is easier on the eyes when reading text?

I woke up 5:00am only to be disappointed. I'm pessimistic about the odds for Thursday order too, but I'll probably wake myself up again and pass out on the floor shortly after.

Was the black iPhone 4 pre-order done on Thursday too?

Well, so much for that. Maybe Thursday. Honestly, I think Apple may do the worst case scenario, and ship them to stores/put them online on the 31st, which means we won't have our phones until August.

PS: I certainly hope they don't sell out in an hour or less, as it would make our chances of getting one almost nil. However, I've been doing the math:

If Lens Technologies can only make 3 sets of white iPhone glass per hour, and you use the 20-hour workday a lot of Chinese factories do, well, take that number and multiply it out you only get about 1500 sets of glass a month. If they've been building the phones since April (earliest date I've seen on an iPhone 4 barcode) then that means there may be as little as 6,000 white iPhones in existence right now.

If that's the case, we won't see ANY online orders. In fact, AT&T, Best Buy, Radioshack, Walmart, etc. probably won't see white phones, either. With 6,000 phones, Apple would only have enough stock to ship 30 phones to each Apple store (as they have about 200 stores, worldwide). If they keep it to a US launch, that's less than 50 phones per store.

I find it unlikely Apple would use a technology now that limits capacity to 6000 units per month. Hopefully AT&T wont screw the pooch and we can get our orders in. Been waiting since April anyways. (when my 3G was stolen).

you guys are forgetting one simple thing, there is probably more than one factory. My guess is that Apple will ship maybe half of what they did for the black iPhone 4, which was 600,000 units. So 300,000 units, or at minimum, probably 100,000 units.

Wasn't it 3 per hour per machine? I assume they have more than one machine.

edit: Yes, I was right:

Considering each CNC machine could apparently only cut out three iPhone 4 glass covers every hour,

Ah, 3 per machine!

Well, in that case, I agree, 100k sounds like a good number.
