It does have a jailbreak, it just isn't packaged for general consumption. If he doesn't want to package it he needs to come out and say that. His vague post is what's causing much of his trouble.Your argument is that he's set a precedent that he will release a jailbreak if he has one, and the fact is that he doesn't have one.

What is vague about "As far as a release goes, it probably won't happen from me"? Seems pretty clear to me. If anyone was confused and thought that he meant "I might make and release a jailbreak tool if you beg enough," the rest of his post should have been enough to dispel that idea.
"Every person that does makes me want to release a little bit less." You need to want to do something before you can want to do it less. Also, he said "probably won't happen". Say it won't happen. Be clear.

Been fallowing geohot for a while I'm not and never will be a huge fan. Though I do see him as a JB pioneer. any way fallowing his twitter I mainly see a College student that loves college life. travel. likes hacking still most hackers do like to brag lol! personally I don't feel Geohot or the Dev-Team or Comex or any others owe me a damn thing. I can't wait for a jb either. but unless I can figure out how to hack and find exploits I'm not going to piss them off.. and act like a little kid.. Daddy are we there yet!!! how about now? now? now?![]()
Perhaps he is not certain that he won't release? He's never said that he's done jailbreaking forever, but he's got lots of other things he wants/needs to do.What's wrong with him saying that he probably won't release, and that people should not pester him about it? You think he should say he definitely won't release even if he is not 100% sure? Or that anyone who isn't 100% sure is fair game for demands and abuse?
See, you don't understand the nature of litigation. Most corporate :: consumer lawsuits have NOTHING to do with "legal grounds to stand on" and everything to do with drawing someone who doesn't have the cash or ability to defend themselves into a lengthy and costly legal battle. MOST consumers, when faced with these options, usually go with just giving it up.
How do I know this? Back in the days when I was writing code for a living, it happened to my partner, not only once, but twice. He's in debt to this day because, even though he's was in the right, he thought he'd go toe to toe with them. He lasted 1 week and has a lifetime of debt now. He knew better the second time around.
Apple, being the richest computer company in America (that's correct, isn't it?) can do whatever the hell they want.
I agree with you there, most lawsuits are targeted at those without the means or resources to defend themselves properly. But I still feel this would be a step too far. The DMCA has a list of exemptions to protection circumvention. One of these is mobile phone firmware that forces you to use one carrier network. Unlocking, and the circumvention of its protection, is legal (See http://www.copyright.gov/1201/ and http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2006/11/8280.ars). This is why Apple is helpless and why they attempted to convince the copyright office it was illegal a few months back without success.
