Lighten up people, he doesnt have the cash for big vacations so this is his urban camping trip. He does it because he finds it to be fun, not everyone likes to do the same thing. I'm sure he's excited about the iPad but i doubt that is not the actual point.

At least this time he wont be out in 104 degree days.

Wow its just a new idevice... And not even with a better screen... If individuals have this much time to donate please use it to help others by volunteering at a NPO or something.

I feel bad for the employees of that store. It's irritating enough when a fan boy shows up a couple times the week before a product launch, but for a week straight?

Ah well, I suppose it's better than sitting at home unemployed in mom's basement. Enjoy your break from reality Justin.

I just feel bad for the mods who have to spend their day policing this forum to protect his feelings, 90% of the posts seem to be making fun of him

(this is not a personal attack, but a probable fact)

It's his time. He can do whatever he wants with it.

FWIW, any publicity is good publicity.

For example, this thread has over 300 replies to it at the moment. Even though the majority of them are negative, it proves that people are talking about it. I'd be saying, "Mission Accomplished!" if I were him.

***Moderator Note: While Justin has made himself a public figure, he is also a MacRumors forum member. Consequently, personal insults directed at him are not permitted in the forums.

It's a shame no one heeds this. The guy isn't doing this to piss you all off, he just wants and iPad (evidently a lot) and is willing to wait in a tent for it. So what? Is he hurting any of you, and he's happily enjoying his wait.

Ever see or read jokes about white people going camping? Each and every person that has slept in the woods for whatever reason on a "vacation" can also be made fun of. Ooh, retreat in the dirt. Enjoyable! In the same way, every nerd that's signed up and posted her can be made fun of. See; Geek / Nerd.

The only relatively negative impact he's ever had on any lives of users here at all is that he pushed MacRumors articles down the page by one post. I can't say a whole lot. Holy crap, you people need to lay off the guy.

In other news, no, I don't believe this deserved a front page MacRumors writeup. This has little to do with Apple or Apple's products directly. I drove from Utica to Syracuse at 6:00AM, waited in line like everyone else there, and got one of the last 16gb iPhone 4s. MacRumors / Engadget / Gizmodo / New York Times never ran a story on myself, or anyone in that line. While I don't mind the fact this 'iJustin' is waiting for an iPad, I do mind that this story got front page coverage.

It's Alive!

... well, his Facebook friends have gone up to 35, from the one he had this morning. And his Twitter followers are now 131, up from the 7 he originally had. Not to mention the tons of comments in this thread talking about him.

So I guess it's working. It seems this is how new self proclaimed internet celebrities are made. Kudos.

Good luck, and enjoy your iPad2.

cheers!

What if he didnt have the tent, but had a scraggly beard, an old backpack, and a bike. Would he be able to do this?

I second that about the mods...

But on the other hand, they should let people say what they want about it so he can read every comment. How else is he going to realize that all he is doing is wasting time and making a fool out of himself to our amusement?

(this also is not a personal attack, but an actual fact)

Does he have an iPad 1?

No..

Hello everyone! It's nice to see MacRumors posted a article about another one my famous camp outs. I'm currently on my Spring Break this week so thats the reason why I'm here early. I would expect more arriving here in the next few days.

I arrived during the early Sunday morning around 9:00am to be set up camp, and last night was my first night here. It's pretty much the same setup as last year's iPhone 4 Launch.

When the iPad 2 arrives on Friday, it will be my first iPad to own. My rule of thumb is when it comes to tech devices, I usually don't buy the first generation because I like to wait and find out how popular they are, add more features and work out all the bugs.

Have you even taken a weeks vacation without donating your time? so selfish

Good point I guess if you have nothing better to be doing for a weeks vacation. My last vacation was spent doing house maintenance so did not benefit anyone but myself either.

This is just silly attention-whoring. There's going to be no shortage of iPads, and there's no reason to camp outside the store for four days. I can't imagine having that little of significance going on in my life...

I pitch a tent everytime I walk into an Apple Store too. ;)

Giggity!

I am surprised with the nasty and mean comments, on this thread. He's doing it for himself. If he likes to do it, what is your problem with it? He can do it, for whatever reason he wants, be it popularity, or just to buy an iPad.

If you like to spend your time with your family, good for you. But, that has nothing to do with this person.

@iJustin, congratz for your iPad 2!

Seriously, what's the fascination with being first to get an iWhatever? It's not just this dude either. It's not like getting yours first means that you'll get a special edition or you get some kind of special recognition. The dude behind you that gets it 2 minutes later has the same device. Concert & sports tickets are a different animal, because your place in line determines where your seats will be. But I don't understand this phenomenon when it comes to identical gadgets.

Well, he's certainly devoted, but something tells me this guy isn't as dumb as some of you may think ;) :

"Seeking to capitalize on his growing publicity as an early camper for Apple devices, Justin has launched a new site at iJustinOfficial.com to document his wait. He will also be offering a live video broadcast on Ustream as the iPad 2 launches."

If he gets any ad revenue whatsoever, he'll be the one laughing...all the way to the bank.

I wonder if the lines will be that bad. I was going to pick up the new iPad after work on Friday. In his world, I am the one that needs an iLife.

I hope the lines aren't too bad. I'd love to be using one that night, and getting in line around noon-2PM friday would be about the earliest I'd go.
