I don't mean to carry over the discussion from the last thread, but I for one am glad that Apple is not incorporating Linkin Park into their image after all.

Whew, that was a close one.

It's funny how you noobs always have to turn every topic into a "Where's My MacBook Pro" thread...

Seriously, go buy yourself a Dell if you want Penryn so bad. But if you don't want a Dell, just shut up already and wait. Go buy the system you need already, or do you already have your "but it doesn't have what I need" excuse ready?

... really now? 4GB of RAM, 2.6gHz Core 2 Duo, 1920x1200, up to 250GB optional hard drive isn't enough for you? If it isn't, then get a damn Mac Pro and stop thinking you can edit on the road if you need that much power.

What exactly are you hoping to get in those updates?... It seems every recent Apple announcement gets hijacked by people crowing over what's missing... As if their individual needs should be paramount to Apple's release roadmap and business strategy.

Is it faster processors? more memory? bigger hard drives? etc etc... Even if those things come I fear you're still going to be fairly disappointed. The reason being - the form factor might stay as it is. Look at the current Apple portable designs (bar the 'air') - they are iconic designs, little has changed since the release of the Titanium Powerbook. In almost 7 years we've only seen small teaks to that form - which is utterly iconic. A 7 year old design, with only minor tweaks to its form - is still the best looking portable on the market, no other manufacturer has anything so simple or elegant.

So what's the natural progression for any new design? I think the 'air' points the way, less moving parts (i.e no latches etc), further miniaturization and a very simple streamlining of the design. Of course none of this takes into account actual soft/hardware functionality (multi touch trackpads etc) because it's a given those things will come and, as with other Apple innovations, we will instantly take them for granted simply because they are so well integrated...

I think Apple are setting up their portables for a form factor change - taking their current design and adding more of a natural feel to it, the 'air' doesn't feel 'manufactured' or 'mechanical' - in the same way the ipod doesn't, or the iphone - or even the way we all interact and use Apple software. Its classic Apple - they release something that looks and feels like it's a natural experience; tactile and instantly accessible.

So rather than wanting to force these things through - and demanding Apple have a stricter agenda of releases (that would potentially be detrimental to overall design - turning innovation of engineering and design into a conveyor belt of rushed and over saturated releases), why not trust that what Apple have right now is a fantastic line up of integrated products - and what they have around the corner, will always build on that for the better.

Well put. Well done.

I'm getting so tired of people asking about the MBP. What's worse is when it does come they're going to bitch that it isn't what they have been dreaming about and that it doesn't live up to the all hype, speculation and rumor mongerring. And it will somehow be Apple's fault.

Thank you! I sold my MacBook Pro and am enjoying the wonders of my new MacBook Air, and once the new MBP's hit, maybe i'll get one. But it'll be so sweet buying one after a big surprise, while the rest of you weirdos buy one just to placate your hostility towards Apple.

Why are Apple spending organizing music gigs? They need to take a breath and refocus on what they do best.

Hopefully the iPhone SDK gets delayed, the iPhone users have been getting too much play these past few months. Apple still makes computers and they still need to update their Mac Mini and MacBook Pros before the middle of March, so the Apple engineers better get working on that, and the new case design that it's gonna have before they work on software that should have been out for the phone since the beginning.

And that new redesigned MacBook Pro had better earn the name "PRO" by including some sweet hardware to go along with the sweet software that Apple has.

Not that I personally want a MBA sized 17" book. I could stand for the book being larger so they can put a Dual 2.8 GHz chip inside, 3G, three FW ports, HDMI, dual HDDs on the 17" and maybe even an extra useless USB port so that us road warrior/on the move never at home pros don't have to worry about running out of useable hardware.

Hahaha, there is a reason Apple dropped 'Computer' from their name awhile back. They want to be in consumer electronics (iPhones, iPods, MBA - which is just a bigger iPhone). They want out of the true computer business. See the lack of updates to their pro line and the recent dropping of the xsan.

Yes...it's huge. 3 stories, with each floor pretty spacious.

Wow, what do they need this much space for? I mean, is it really necessary to have 30 MBs and 250 iPhones lined in a row? Most of the time all I see at Apple stores are groups of pimply faced teenagers goofing off with photo booth and flipping iPhones from portrait to landscape. What a frogging waste.

As expected. The SDK is not sexy or would have been understood by common folks. A MacBook PRO or iMac or Mac Mini capabilities / speed bumb does not need an event either.

I beleive there will be an Apple news posted on Apple site about the SDK, but thats about it.

Now March may have some surprices for us.

We have 3 apples stores in a 2mi radius! SoHo, 5th Ave (24hr) and now one on 14th and 9th. Lotsa fanboi's here I guess. :)

Even though I am leaning towards thinking that Apple will delay the SDK, I would like to point out even though Apple generally releases on Tuesdays, with the big items in which a deadline has been self-imposed, they tend to release on the last day of the month.

So, they could invite press tomorrow for an event on Feb. 29th.

But my money is on Apple delaying the SDK. They have become fond of doing that.

It's not so much that I need the extra power, it's that I want hardware that warrants the current price. I've been waiting for a while to make the switch, and as it stands if I was to buy a macbook pro right now, I'd be paying the same price as I would have last July for the same hardware. Now I don't know about the rest of you but I'm a CS/Multimedia student and while I accept paying the apple "premium" for not having to write my own drivers to run OSX on an ASUS or DELL XPS, I'm not going to accept spending as much as a kawasaki on 8 month old hardware.

With the way the MBP keeps being delayed, it might actually starting to make sense for me to brush up on my C skills and get cracking away at those drivers.

Misspelled? I don't know how you can miss-'grain' something. :)

Er from the Oxford University press...

mis•spell /msspel/ verb (mis•spelled, mis•spelled) or (mis•spelt, mis•spelt /msspelt/) [vn] to spell a word wrongly
mis•spell•ing noun [C, U]

We have a winnah.

No Kidding! And what's even worse, with EACH announcement - they have to piss on the announcement. Or take it out on the MacBook Air. It's flat out wierd. I'm starting to hate these MBP owners. Watch, when the SDK is announced and posted here - the MBP peeps will slam it with negative ratings (just cuz) and clutter up the thread with their whineing.

Live

This whole LIVE thing could get really interesting...

I have visions of streaming live concerts to :apple:TV and having friends over for the show... as opposed to going to a venue, parking, paying $12 for Bud Light and hanging out with hundreds of tool boxes...
I think there's something there.

Or... concerts that able to reach a larger audience as opposed to a few thousand a show.

Rambling...

Tell me about it. They dropped the Xserve RAID by the way. I hope they don't drop the MacBook Pro anytime soon, then there would be a serious crisis in the creative pro world.

Thank god someone else is from planet earth.

You all are like a rabid pack of wild chipmunks. MBP MBP......where is my MBP. lol.

I'm Irish, therefore I use UK-English, not US-English. Misspelt is correct.

However, if you're a grammar pedant, could you perhaps explain to me the use of the semicolon? It has always confused me.

then I guess you are just going to have to wait.
Welcome to the wonderful world of apple. You know what the best thing is it that once you have a MBP like I do, you could give a crap about updates. Because with every update you're like, that's cool, and then you go back to using your 2 or 3 year old MBP and it works just fine. :):):)

The Worst Band in the World

People who like Macs like Linkin Park? This is a very disappointing revelation.
