It's funny how you noobs always have to turn every topic into a "Where's My MacBook Pro" thread...

Seriously, go buy yourself a Dell if you want Penryn so bad. But if you don't want a Dell, just shut up already and wait. Go buy the system you need already, or do you already have your "but it doesn't have what I need" excuse ready?

... really now? 4GB of RAM, 2.6gHz Core 2 Duo, 1920x1200, up to 250GB optional hard drive isn't enough for you? If it isn't, then get a damn Mac Pro and stop thinking you can edit on the road if you need that much power.

Wow, "noobs." Ridiculous...

The specs aren't the problem, it's the cost for the specs. For the same price the offer should be greater. Apple used to be at the forefront of innovation. Not having a penryn processor when everyone else does is sad. We've come to expect a lot from Apple because they have typically delivered. As consumers we're supposed to be critical of a company that many of us kept afloat while they were going through their troubled spots. And even those looking to make a switch are allowed to have high expectations. Apple isn't asking people to just switch computers; they're asking people to make an entire paradigm shift into a completely different computing environment which is based heavily upon brand loyalty.

Apple hasn't lived up to the expectations it has set for itself. Diversification is a wonderful thing but not when you forget there are other people still using the staple devices. Granted we can't have an iPhone every 6 months nor should we expect it, but a lot of people are being left out in the cold here and there's nothing wrong with them complaining about it. And yes people are still gonna say, "it doesn't have what I need." Do you have the perfect technological device that solves every function and every spec someone needs or wants? Complaining is far better than saying, "It's Apple and I love them no matter what."

The last two MBP updates have been silent. There's no reason to think that an "event" will have anything to do with new MBPs. Those that do are wanting big major updates (redesigns, etc) and will surely be disappointed.

You're right. What did the mac pro get silently: new processors and new gfx cards. Anything else? I'd be content with both and only those in new MBPs. High screen res could be silent too and LED for the 17", but a whole redesign will be a disappointment if you're looking for it soon.

Agreed, but I would add that waiting for a 17" LED is also going to disappoint - there are no other 17" notebooks shipping, or even announced, with LED screens.

I am starting to think that the SDK is going to be pushed back a few weeks. In the meantime, it would be nice if the new MBP's would be released.

Being with Apple is paying with a premium. It's the same thing as anyone who buys a BMW or a rolex watch, why must you buy it if you can get something cheaper and has the same functionality? Apple has not set any expectations for themselves, its those that let themselves get suckered into a cult like state-of-mind that makes them think they need to crank out so many new products at one time. I don't know what expectations you're talking about but from the looks of things Apple is doing what they said they would always verbally, they don't always adopt the hardcore people's standards. Apple has the power to not always have to jump onto every processor that comes out or every technology that comes out just so it can always stay current: i.e - they have not release any HD format support or option for their systems, they could have slapped a Kentsfield processor into an iMac or Mac Mini but they didn't. And the reason why they dont need to update all the time immediately is because they have done a great job of suckering people into their marketing that any update that they spit out, people will jump on... why?... because its Apple!

You don't need to say you love Apple and whatever they do you have to love it, but you have to admit that they met their EXPECTATIONS and suckered everyone into their hype. Look at MacRumors, if you noticed there was a big jump in membership January 2007 and June 2007... why? because of the iPhone. Apple made no promises to always spit out new machines whenever a processor comes out... its YOU GUYS who set those expectations of Apple, and when Apple doesn't provide, you guys feel burnt.

I don't hear of people saying man rolex needs to update their product line or BMW needs to update their 3 and 5 series, because they know the company will always pull through because they know when to make the jump to new technologies and designs.

I SAY NOOB because most newbies who moan and bitch about lack of updates from Apple are people who come from backgrounds where they're spoiled with updates that absolutely unnecessary just because a new component came out. Just because its out, dont expect Apple to adopt it, and I'm not surprised if Apple skips out on Penryn and waits for Montevista or Centrino 2.

NOOB.

Once Apple does update the MBP's, there are going to be a lot of complaints on this site and negative votes. "Lame update." "I waited for this?" .....That's a given...and I'll be shocked if it turns out otherwise. Why does Apple need to have an "event" to update a product, anyway?

Obviously the new MBP isn't going to be the perfect thing in everyone's minds, but it will be this if nothing else: modern hardware at the same price. Current models are essentially a rip-off, as has been exhaustively discussed on here and another hundred forums. So, even if it doesn't have Blu-Ray and advanced multitouch and FW3200, it will still be more modern than the current version. Apple, let us have it.

"Noob" is just a childish "leet" (an no I will not spell it with 3's 7's and whatever & sign you use) term that I find childish and discredits what most people have to say. Unless you're 15, get off it.

Comparing to BMW and Rolex? I don't know what computer you think you're using and in what high regard you hold yours in but mine isn't graced with a gloss coat of turtle wax. Apple is a computer manufacturer and technology company and as it diversifies and gains market share will be more and more subject to above and justified criticism. They're not limited edition models nor are the logic boards autographed anymore. This is technology, which is constantly evolving and companies in that field should be expected to keep up and evolve.

And I said above people shouldn't expect an iPhone every six months. It was a revolutionary device at its announcement as was the iMac, and the current notebook line dating back to the G3's. But now, they're just notebooks, with PC parts that update all the time. Not having more updates doesn't fit the diversification model Apple is surely adopting. This isn't the days of the PowerPC anymore where the chip release was years apart. This is Intel. Apple computers are PC's with an Apple OS now. Blasphemy, I know.

And it's not just us that set expectations. Look what happened to Apple's stock right after Macworld, 220 to 121 at the moment of me writing this. Shareholders are upset too. So it's more than us "hard core" people noticing something is amiss. And yes, the whole stock market is taking a beating, but much of the loss is a direct relation to the lackluster Macworld. So according to you even people who own a piece of the company shouldn't have any right to be upset when Apple isn't delivering?

And you're arguing my case about Apple suckering people in. And now people are upset about it and now you're telling them they have no right to do so. It's ridiculous. People are NOT asking for a new iPhone. Theyy're asking for a processor upgrade to a notebook that hasn't seen an update since last June (I don't wanna hear it about the option to add 2.6GHz and a 250GB HD because anyone will point out that is not an actual update to the system) for the same exact price. Even Rolex and BMW drop the price of their cars over time if you want to use your car/watch reference.

When MS Office 2008 was mentioned at Macworld, Steve Jobs made a stab of it being the last Apple product to make the 64bit switch. It's a little hypocritical when Apple is the last to adopt a new processor because even if they wait for Montevina in the summer, they won't be the first to use it if they're relying on some event for the announcement.

To even begin to argue a tech company is absolved from keeping up with technology because they are said company is asinine and it's those people who make that claim are the true suckers.

stop arguing,

and start contributing rumors or .. something

here, ill start you off:

steve jobs has a new haircut. its a mohawk.

Oh yeah? Well your mom sells cigarettes to 5th graders:)

Nice point, good day to you!

I agree with pine. You can't really expect people to buy a MBP at the current price. If they lowered the price, then I think that villanova329 would have more of a point. The reality is that new adopters are going to balk at the price of the current MBP.

As an example, I am ready to buy a new laptop. At this point, I can do my work on both OSX or WinXP and be just as productive in each environment. I'd "like" to look at something different than XP, but I can't justify spending close to 3 grand for a lappy when I can get a more up-to-date model from Dell for just under 2 grand. I'm willing to pay a bit more, but that's just ridiculous. Granted, I am just one case but I have a hard time believing that I am an anomaly.

No, you're not. I'm in the same boat. I'm going to give it another month. I'd rather have a MBP, but I'm not going to pay a huge OSX tax for an old model when all the PC builders have the latest cpus, video cards and largest hard drives for hundreds less.
