A couple of recent comments seem surprised that the release is the same build as the GM. Has the definition of Golden Master changed recently? Last I checked, the Golden Master build is the final version for release, hence the change from the RCs to the GM.

I think the concern is that there are some really irritating bugs with the GM, so we hoped that there'd be a second or third GM, kind of like there has been with iOS updates in the past.

I'm hoping for a surprise and that the Lion release has a slightly different build number to address some bugs.

Unlikely, but I like to be positive. :)

Well, it's 12 PM EST and Lion still isn't in the Mac App Store.

Good night, MacRumors!

Yea, kinda. GM has been used to define what is going to media manufacturing to be shipped and released.

With a download (through the app store only) option, there is the opportunity to push another build out on release day. An option not available previously.

Remember the immediate update to Snow on release? Could potentially be avoided now.

If they take advantage of that or not is another story.

New OS. Figures. Still running Leopard. HEHE. Don't have the money to spend on a new OS nor on a new computer (to some who go out and buy a new Apple when they come out when they bought the last update less than 12 months ago).

Till Tomorrow

I'll look forward to hearing about server crashes and having to wait until 3AM tomorrow to try it out. Really was hoping for a 3AM release.

I haven't done too much reading on Lion. The new Spaces replacement may be good since I never liked Spaces. I really dig that you can sandbox multiple OS installs now. The rest of the stuff seems to be iOS type stuff. Are there any major under the hood changes, like a major update to Open CL implementation, or support for a somewhat recent version of Open GL?
