Yay I get a new Mac mini or MacBook Air tomorrow.

(haven't decided yet)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but they're announcing Lion tomorrow. There is still no conclusive proof to suggest Macbook Air or Mac Mini is coming tomorrow.

IMO, Apple would want to spread product releases out as much as they can to keep the company in the spotlight, so I would not be surprised in the slightest if we have to wait until next week to get the Air/Mini.

They are very different machines...do you need portability or a desktop?

I've been going back and forth on this. While I like the idea of having the option to go portable, 95% of the time I'll be using it at home.

I've decided that if the Mac mini is reasonable more powerful than the MacBook Air I may lean towards that, but if they're about the same spec-wise then I'll probably go for the MacBook Air.

Gharghahgh!!!!!

Seriously, tomorrow?

Too soon for me. I just finished my migration yesterday and got my preferences just right on my brand new 27" iMac, now this?

Oh well, at least I'll be getting Lion for free. Now I just have to figure out how to put it on an external drive of some sort so I can clean install it on my iMac and do the entire song and dance again.

My face literally went from :) to :( when I read this post.

I was assuming with the release of the Lion they'd release the new hardware as well...

Back to the waiting game I guess *sigh*

Nothing solid but IIRC iOS 4 was released at midnight Pacific time. It would make sense to drop it then while the east coast is sleeping to ease congestion.

How does that ease congestion? Most of us EST will gladly get up at 3 a.m. to download. By 6 am servers will be buried...

Still can't decide if its worth doing a clean install before updating, or just update to Lion like the vast majority of Mac users.

The Macbook Air will be quicker in everyday tasks due to the SSD drive inside. The Mac Mini will be faster in rendering and processor intensive tasks, so it depends on what you need it for. Storage space will be better in the Mac Mini, RAM likely will be equal, as will the graphics.

The Macbook Air is extremely portable, and I highly recommend one.

If your iMac is brand new why bother doing a clean install.. just upgrade... Just make sure you install the lion migration tool before hand!

Im going to clone my hard drive to an external first then do a clean install

I think im just going to update to Lion with out a clean install. If I think something is funky is going on, then I'll make a bootable and restore from that.

You won't have to wait long.
