Yep, I do sound like that guy...so again I am gonna ask:

WHAT ARE THE TRUE ADVANTAGES OF LION?

Clearly a troll post.

All the details about Lion are on Apple's website. Go there and read about the new stuff. If you don't think they are worth the $29, don't upgrade. Simple as that.

Now let's all please stop this I'm-too-cool-for-Lion trollish behavior.

Kthanx.

teaser

The text on the banner suggests a teaser campaign. it says available in July. If we can expect a release tomorrow, I think it would would say "Available now!". Maybe not!

Chupa, you don't think they would put an outdated MBA photo in a Lion release banner, do you?

I don't think Apple would, but my doubt is whether the banner is current & authentic. I do think an Internet prankster would use an outdated picture.

However, if it's authentic my point that we don't see the other side is still valid. It's quite possible there is a TB port on the other side.

Actually not. Only the new UI is explained in detail, but nothing substantial can be found there. I guess what he wanted to know was, what's new in Lion "under the hood". Will it hog resources like Leopard back then, maybe be as swift as or even swifter as SL? Will there be new OpenGL drivers, to name but a few questions that matter for those who don't care about the UI. I can happily life with or without full-screen apps, Mission Control, Launchpad, and whatnot, but will gladly upgrade if Lion is a big step forward in the undocumented features, i.e. source code.

Clearly a troll post.

Nothing trollish about wanting to know what's beneath the surface. There are people that use Macs as production systems, after all, not just for exchanging pics and videos and facebooking. ;) (present company excluded of course)

I'm predicting the app store's servers are gonna be crashing left & right from too many people trying to update it tomorrow. Either that, or download speed will be so slow it'll take ages to get it done.

And how they 're supposed to manage the icloud if they are unable to manage this OS release download stuff ?!?!

Think eh....

The smart move is to buy two $15 itunes gift cards at Best Buy to rack up some Reward Zone points.

I bought two gift cards during Best Buy's 15% off iTunes cards promotion so it's technically costing me $23 for Lion.

Any reports on how this performs on the 2008 Unibody MacBook Pro?

I'm in the middle of a commission, so I'll be holding off until that's signed off...

It runs fine on my 2008 unibody MacBook (not pro) so you should be save :p

Kiddo, please check my fanboyish history before saying that I am troll here. I work all day and I don't feel like delving through 250+ features if someone else with the knowledge can take me straight to the main advantages.

So my question is directed at those who, like me, use Macs since the days of System 7 or so, and are able to identify the main TRULY useful/innovative features of Lion (not full-screen chess or just gestures). Anyone care to help me?

Say, speaking of Lion and its requirements... I only have 2GB of RAM. Of course, I plan to upgrade as soon as I have some cash to spare (of course, if anyone could point me to some [legitimate] dirt-cheap RAM that'd be good to!), but that may not be for awhile. How well do y'all think Lion will run on my computer? I also have a 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo.

All I can say is: thank you. I already have an iPad and do NOT feel like having an iOS clone on my Mac (despite using Exposé a lot and seeing the purported benefits of Mission Control, of course).

Let me try to be more specific: apart from gestures and iOS-inspired BS, WHAT ELSE is there to justify the upgrade? Thank you again.

One question;
Is Apple including Lion preinstalled in their new Macs? Are they changing the packaging and back up disks in the box? Is the box design(picture) going to be changed? I've been waiting weeks to buy my new Mac and I want it to be a total Lion machine. Thank you.

And what will happened if one of your software is not working with the lion?
do you going to install OS x ?
as I understaned lion will be download only.

Well I don't have any software other than Microsoft office 11' and if a new iWorks is released, I'll most likely purchase it.

As of tomorrow new macs will be pre installed with lion as standard.

* Versioning for supported apps
* New optimised memory management system
* New Open GL with significantly improved 3d graphics performance
* The kernel is now 64bit (performance improvements)

They are just a few significant "under the hood" things off the top of my head.
The lion GM flies on my early 2008 MBP, it feels much snappier than SL did on this machine.

And Mission control (ugh) got me to start using and love spaces. I'd never used spaces prior to Lion but now I find that I use them extensively.

You could look here http://macsales.com/ They have 3rd party RAM cheap, i'm not sure how much shipping is but when I got my RAM for the new 27 inch imac a few weeks ago it was less then $2! To Hawaii too!

Thank you, Surfheart. That's good news! Although one could boot SL into 64-bit-kernel too, and keep it there with a few lines of code, I'm glad it doesn't require manually added code anymore.
Now I'm looking forward to tomorrow ;)
