I agree. I also don't understand their "failure of the physical metaphor" section- just like I don't understand people who dislike the new address book and especially iCal. These are huge UI visual improvements that, sure, add a bit of whimsical flair, but what's the harm there?

Great explanation here.

Mainly, it's that the visual "flair" gives the impression that the interface works a certain way when it doesn't. And sticking with a literal visual interface imposes unnecessary limitations - these versions remove some functionality like the three pane view in address book.

Plus I'd argue that the extra junk like stitching and ripped pages are wasted space that could be used instead for the content.

So far seems like a great OS but the design choices in those two apps and a few other places are pretty awful.

Well the GM was very stable, with very few bugs. No showstoppers.

It's a winner. I'm loving it.

Took a bit of getting used to the "Lion way", but once I began using it, I seemed to get things done more efficiently. It's a lot of fun, too.

I had spaces setup with a hot corner, so I would start spaces there, then the expose on the keyboard.

Yes, very stable. I've had no problems at all. Love the new window/desktop management. I'm still getting used to the reversed scroll thing... I have to reverse the wiring in my brain.

How do I sync my MobileMe contacts? Not giving me the option in the Preference Pane?

In all my years of using Windows and Mac, there is a single aspect I've preferred over Mac: the full-screen-window app approach. I've never been a fan of dragging a swarm of windows around. Very annoying.

I'm very much looking forward to the new full-screen app aspect of Lion.

If it would hurry and download already. (I'm wishing at the moment I hadn't recently moved to the country and away from Comcast service...).

So if I install lion will I still have all my files on my computer like my songs amd movies and everything?

And if I don't have a magic mouse or magic trackpad is it still worth it?

Thanks

In the past, when we had a Cisco VPN at work, the VPN client was always the reason I couldn't upgrade right away. Cisco would take months to update it. Then finally Apple integrated Cisco VPN right into networking and it worked perfectly - so my company immediately switched to some obscure SSL VPN, which will randomly break on new OS upgrades and new Firefox and Safari upgrades.

And not a soul uses it, so I can never find any indication if it is currently working or not. F5 SSL anyone?

I felt that way occasionally, then the U-verse man showed up at my door with 20mbps internet. Like having your cake and eating it to :)

Will wait to upgrade until they fix the optical out issue from 10.6.8 which apparently still plagues Lion.

I'll stick with 10.6.7 'til then...

I see the Microsoft trolls are, as always, going through and down-voting the pro-Apple regulars. I'll counter that with an upvote.

Uh oh, now they're coming for me. Get ready to return the favor, LTD. ;)

I must say, that was the easiest and most seemless OS upgrade I have ever done. No discs, no errors....fast.....

I am happy with my purchase.

Yes. The installer just updates the OS. It doesn't touch your files. The installation takes about 20/30min. I didn't have any problems with it, but you should always have a backup (I suggest using time machine with an empty external hard drive if you don't have a time capsule), just in case something goes wrong. Happy updating!

First Gen i5 here, it is dog slow at times. I have been using activity monitor to find out what and why but I haven't nailed anything down.

Flash is having problems, not consistent but I have some sites acting odd.

Reverted Mail back to its old look. Also flipped the mouse scrolling as it was backasswards. Launchpad is a clusterfornication, especially those with Parallels integration :p

Instead of Apple bragging about full screen apps, a feature that I actually find a step backwards because I need access to menus, dock, etc. what Apple really needs to do FIRST is to fix the problem of the green button when expanding it to full screen.

That is about as effing retarded as the single button mouse. Half the time when pressing it, it only expands somewhat and other times the windows expands but shifts over completely out of place requiring the user to actually drag the window back to a comfortable space.

Green button should do exactly as one would assume; expand to the maximum area, basically, full screen without hiding the dock or menu.

You do realize it's up to the App to do with the 'Green Button Push' when received - not the OS.

No U-Verse in my state yet, sadly. :(

Which version did you buy? Basic? Home Basic? Home Premium? Student Basic? Student Premium? Business Basic? Business Platinum Mover & Shaker Package? Ultimate? Super Ultimate? Or Super Ultimate Platinum Deluxe Limited Steve Ballmer Edition?

I'm having a hard time deciding.

;)

I love how people are impressed at how few bugs.

of course there are not a lot of bugs, its snow leopard with a slight re-skin

anyhoo, think ill stick with SL until i can buy Lion media, no media, no sale for an OS. I like to be able to do a clean install

You can still do that now. You have to clean install Snow Leopard first anyway, so just do that, then download Lion. Boom. Done. And hey, burn it to a disk for later

You need to understand what the green button does then. It expands to fit the content, not the screen. If you want that function, download Better Touch Tool and enable the Windows 7-like snap feature.

Thanks man for the info? Do I need magic mouse and/or magic trackpad to fully utilize lion?
