before i am going to get it I want to know what the "few stumbles back" are. I don't want to buy the "new and improved" only to find out it has taken away features that are important to me. example: imovie.

I understand your iMovie quote. You mean when you installed iMovie 08 and it removed your iMovie HD without telling you.

Well you have all your guessers changed and scrolling, but you can change those back. You will lose front row and your ability to customize the finder's sidebar. All your devices will be at the bottom which is annoying. iMovie '11 right now constantly crashes on me, so I'd wait if you use that a lot... that's all I've noticed.

Software Updates Failing...

Anyone having an issue with Software Updater after upgrading to Lion?

I have 3 pending updates, Remote Desktop Client, iWorks and iTunes.

Telling it to install updates and it complete stalls on the download (I'm at my office, which has 100 mbit bandwidth to the internet) almost instantly. Made it to 2.8 MBs of RDC the first time and 91 MBs of iTunes on the second try.

Forced quite the updater and now it won't open at all. After reboot, the process starts over, sticking on downloads.

Yup. I get all the way through the download and install process... then I get an error message...

My noob question:

Will I have to re-install my non-Apple software again, or will the Lion upgrade be seamless? (In particular, Parallels and Windows software in that virtual partition.)

Having no problems with Parallels so far...

I'm okay with everything apart from the lack of OpenGL updates. The biggest thing for me right now is good 3D support. I know that Apple's implementation uses about 95% of the 3.0 spec and a few from 3.1 and 3.2, but really, there should be a full implementation, it's 2011.

How much longer must we suffer Apple releasing machines with crippled GPUs?

Actually, Lion supports OpenGL 3.2. The new OpenGL Extensions Viewer supports the new OpenGL stack, although it's a bit buggy. Select the new rendering engine and you'll see. It goes up to 3.2. They say this new stack may see faster updates than the old one due to it being completely redesigned. If that's true, 4.x may appear in Lion's lifetime.

I updated two MacBook Pros to Lion this morning. No issues. So far, I like Lion quite a bit. It is similar enough to work with right off the bat and new enough in a few places to make it interesting. Safari 5.1 is very nice.

Mission control is going to take me awhile to sort out. I liked and used spaces (but not expose).

I got that error last week on Snow Leopard, so it is NOT a Lion issue.

Lion is great, but does take a lot of getting used to, especially with all the new gestures, but from what I've seen the new Expose/Spaces is a lot better, and will no doubt increase my productivity :)

There are a lot of visual/UI bugs though, but they will be ironed out. The only annoying bug is when switching out from launchpad to a full screen app, the dock sticks to the bottom.... Can be frustrating.

Well then download it, put it on a disk, and wipe your drive.

No need to wait.

No i want a BOXED copy, from a store, on a disk that wont degrade overtime if i leave it in sunlight.

I prefer physical media to downloads, when the aliens invade and power goes out and the internets crash, ill still be able to play starcraft in offline mode on my macbook pro powered from a lemon battery :)

Can any please to tell me where I can buy the lion toy shown in that pic?

As stupid as this sounds, truly what would be icing on the cake would be, if Lion comes with some actual awesome Lion backgrounds, as SL came with some very cool backgrounds containing Snow Leopards. Lions are my favourite animal, but any pictures I find on the web don't do it justice, or are just not clean enough for my desktop.

(waiting as it downloads, lol)

I am really liking Lion. However, this may seem petty, but I am very sad about the Bounce feature missing in Mail 5. I obviously cannot move past this. Love me some bounce.:(

.....I would have expected more from someone who:

1) knows what an SSD is
2) knows how much they cost
3) knows the advantage of an SSD
4) spent lots of money on an SSD
5) spent said money on an early adopter of an SSD

Seriously, wallpapers? I am disappoint.

A store-bought copy won't last too long in the sunlight either.

Your requests are getting stranger. Just burn 2 copies then. Or 8. Will 8 be safe enough for you? DVDs are cheap.

EDIT: Got you covered on the Box, too. Sure, it's a little pricey, but it's still cheaper than buying Windows.

I think Apple didn't think this all the way through. I only have a Sprint Mobile Braodband Card with a 5GB/month limit. The download speeds are terrible. How am I supposed to download Lion. The Apple Store is an hour and a half from my house. After calling Apple and being transferred many times, they tell me that I can buy a Flash Drive with Lion on it for $69 in August. I said that I have enough flash drives and asked why they can send me a disk and only charge me $29? The representative didn't even answer. I think it is outrageous for Apple to punish customers with slower internet and make them pay $40 extra dollars. I am feeling Apple doesn't care about me because I am not offered high speed internet in my area.

You could go to an apple store for 20 minutes...

I can't wait.

I'm in the middle of 4 different Final Cut projects that need to be done this month, though, so I'm gonna wait on Lion for a few more weeks.

Really can't wait for next month. I'm gonna jump on this the instant I can.

I'm right there with you. Not with Final Cut specifically, but this is finals week for me, so I'll be holding off until next week some time so I have a chance to adjust to Lion without worrying about any unexpected issues throwing a wrench into the works.
